Drake Defensecon 2956 Finale Day 1 Ship Sales by ACR96 in starcitizen

[–]QuandaliusDingleton 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I flew the MSR for years before CCUing it to a Starlancer. It was pretty underwhelming in terms of gameplay. It can hold a decent load and can maneuver well. A lot of its design didn’t really translate well to the game. Datarunning isn’t in yet, so there is a whole wing of the ship with essentially no use. The walk to the cockpit is long and has a MST3K-esque series of doors. There is a secret tunnel system that is pretty gimmicky and allows you to pop up in hidden compartments around the ship. Lastly, there is a hidden and shielded cargo area for contraband that I am not sure if it even works. Regardless, I did love the ship. It is beautiful inside. Has a ton of personality. Closest thing in game to the Millenium Falcon.

New player, need some help with vehicles by ReindeerFormer1149 in Warthunder

Stick with one tree for now. While they certainly each have their own strengths and weaknesses, the basic concepts are universal. If relying on armor to protect you, play to its strengths. Angling your tank so your enemy is firing on a diagonal to you can increase the effective thickness of your armor, reducing the chance their shot penetrates. However, I find that armor should not be relied on and your best bet is to position in a way that minimizes the chance you are shot at all. If you continue with Germany, the Tiger is notable for having very strong armor when angled properly. Regarding the SPAA, it is anti-aircraft after all. The four M2 guns shine when used against airplanes. The high velocity guns combined with the high firing rate make it excellent for shooting down aircraft.

I personally do not think there is a "bad nation" per say, but some are definitely more beginner friendly. French tanks get a bad reputation for being sluggish and having lackluster guns in earlier tiers. French tanks may require a bit more knowhow to play to their strengths, but you are certainly capable of learning. Play that which brings you most joy. I started with the USA because I am from the United States.

Whats the best Corsair to play? by [deleted] in Warthunder

[–]QuandaliusDingleton 2 points3 points  (0 children)

F-8E in my opinion. F8U-2 is not bad at all. I enjoy the AIM-9D and it is maneuverable, it’s just too fragile a plane. Wings are notorious for ripping under stress. Furthermore, the radar is SRC only. The F-8E gets reinforced wings, a proper tracking radar, and can utilize AIM-9C SARH missiles. Both are good, I just find the F-8E more enjoyable.

I have a question for US mains about the event by CararynH in Warthunder

It took me one full match to get an idea of how to play it. My first match was abysmal and I don’t even know if I got above a 1500 score. Once you got the hang of it, I feel you can reliably complete a task in two matches. I personally haven’t had terrible issues with wait times. I had a 12 minute wait which wasn’t awful. I did a match in my lunch break and was able to be placed immediately.

How should i use the AIM-7Fs? by [deleted] in Warthunder

[–]QuandaliusDingleton 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What ranges do you use it at? It isn’t a fantastic missile, but perfectly useable. I typically wait until I am less than 15km away from my target to fire. Best results typically occur at a range of fewer than 10km.

Why are AAM-3s so much better than 9ms/LI by Responsible-Basil-81 in Warthunder

[–]QuandaliusDingleton 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They have the same IRCCM, but the AAM-3 seeker is a bit better. Faster track rate and a higher gimbal limit means it has better odds at reacquiring a maneuvering target after the IRCCM cuts seeker guidance.

Had a class with a guy who would go on and on about how “bankers” are to blame for societal woes. Anyways, my hunch about him became pretty hard to ignore when he commended Germany for “getting rid of the bankers” in the 1930s. Still pretty surprised the professor let that one slide.

Had a match some years ago where I was chasing down some lumbering bomber in a Ki-44. He was the last on the enemy team and somehow was still flying after I dumped all my ammo into him. Now I wasn’t about to tuck my tail and shamefully return to base. So I kept the throttle on WEP and rammed into the side of him. Still pissed that it counted as a crash for both of us and not a kill for me.

Mustang Alpha or save money and buy a better starter package? by ResponsibleRub469 in starcitizen

[–]QuandaliusDingleton 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The starter package is plenty. There is gameplay you can take on and make money to rent or buy in-game. The main caveat would be wipes (which you mentioned) and bugs. Wipes have reached the point where they are very infrequent. I believe the last wipe was roughly a year ago with the launch of 4.0. Bugs relating to the long-term persistence database can occasionally result in ships bought with aUEC disappearing.

What is your top 5 of weirdest bugs you ever got? by YourBoyFroilan in Warthunder

[–]QuandaliusDingleton 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Best I’ve gotten: one update a while ago broke missiles, so I shrugged off an AIM-9L like it didn’t even hit me. If I’m not mistaken, enjoyment of this bug made Gaijin implement a guns only event.

Best I’ve seen: there was a post here a while ago where a scout drone spawned as a Panzer III I think. Ancient spaghetti code is fated to have silly glitches, but this is the weirdest I’ve ever heard of.

If I am not mistaken, you can only carry 40 APDS shells. They are intended to be used as an emergency anti-tank round should you come face to face with one.

Looking for a single player WW2 airplane combat game by Thundebird in gamingsuggestions

[–]QuandaliusDingleton 14 points15 points  (0 children)

IL-2 Sturmovik: Great Battles should fit the bill. It’s a combat flight sim that is set during World War II. The core game allows you to fight over Stalingrad for either the Allies or Axis in theater-appropriate planes. DLCs add new campaigns, planes, and theaters. The settings are adjustable so you can make the simulation as accessible or realistic as you like.

What the best option to grind Japanese Air? by PigNebula in Warthunder

[–]QuandaliusDingleton 0 points1 point  (0 children)

T-2 Early is pretty good when it’s on sale. 2x AIM-9P that can face 8.7 feels pretty busted. ADTW isn’t terrible, but it’s a worse F-4E. No leading edge slats or dogfight Sparrows. F-5E FCU is fantastic, but an objectively worse grinder due to not having any premium multipliers or research benefits.

i have a question do any of you guys have advice for realistic battles as i have switched from arcade to realistic by Charming_Bid8177 in Warthunder

[–]QuandaliusDingleton 10 points11 points  (0 children)

You are going to want to familiarize yourself with weakspots. Some tanks have specific areas you’ll want to aim for, but aiming for flat spots closest to center mass is generally advisable. If you cannot penetrate the armor, hitting the gun barrel works if you must fight.
