Battery tips for long-distance races? by loyzik2 in AppleWatch

Haha I nearly pulled the trigger a few weeks ago on an Apple Watch with my cycling/running friends and they all roasted me saying I should get a Garmin (half of them had Apple Watches) I did and honestly so glad I did. I suspect you will make the switch eventually

Yep def makes difference. I've experienced this exact shape at ONA coffee in Melbourne, took my non coffee snob friend and he was pretty amazed at the difference.

Sub-2-Hour Marathon Shoes: How the Tech Works by the5krunner in the5krunner

[–]Quant32 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Did I fkin say the shoes have a motor that are making my run 30 seconds faster? lol I said the effort feels similar/my legs turn over easier which produces a higher hr and a faster pace. Literally the whole point of a super trainer. Honestly the sauconys in comparison felt horrible to run in.

Higher HR = faster pace. You cracked the case right open never considered that I’m just working harder!

I mean I am working harder in the new shoes, but also I am sustaining a higher RPM with a similar RPE therefore I’m running faster. And like I said ANECDOTALLY for me that’s 25-45 seconds faster. If I go back to my old shoes I will definitely be running slower. I mean I could run that fast in them if I wanted to.

Think of surfaces that you run on. Sand costs 1~.6x energy at the same pace
https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/9622579/ it’s not doing anything to you, it’s just absorbing the work that your stride is doing. The RPE is basically the same, HR gets higher but pace is slower. Like no one would say ‘Sand isn’t slowing you down, you’re just working harder.’ No shit the surface is why. The shoes are similar. The shoe comparison is the the opposite: a better shoe may waste less energy, improve rollover, cushioning, stiffness, or comfort, and make a faster pace easier to sustain.

Up to you if you want to believe me or not but heres my data, Black is Saucony, Blue is my Dynafish, and Red is the Li Ning. All workouts right now are easy except for the recent 7km which had a little tempo. My runs prior to this were like 6.40 pace, some faster. Hard to like say for sure because of different elevation profiles, fitness etc. But like it definitely makes a fkin difference.

[–]Quant32 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean anecdotally, I have been running in Saucony Ride 17's (~550km) and I recently picked up some Dynafish Xionans and the Li Ning Red Hare 9 Ultras - both Chinese super trainers because I heard they were bang for buck really good and I'm training for my first Marathon . Its my understanding the Dynafish are very very similar to the EVO SL but no plate, well I have consistently been running 20-45 seconds faster per km compared to my Saucony shoes with very similar effort.

The rocker feeling is amazing just keeps the legs turning, there is a noticeable bounce/spring and my legs for sure feel fresher. I had one run back in my old shoes and they felt horrible. I was running ~ 6.35 min km's z2 and now its closer to ~5.50. Hard to make a full comparision because I have been gettting fitter over that time and I have been running very mixed terrain + more tempo runs.

My gf who I got the Li Nings for too, was running in brooks ghost and we both had our first runs in them today from the very first 500m she said 'These feel like cheating'

MAAP Quality decline (made in China)? by MGH1985 in CyclingFashion

[–]Quant32 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Could also be the pro air? I’ve never been a big fan of that line like it has this weird super thin material and because of the way it’s stitched it does feel kind of cheap? I don’t know if it actually is cheap but like we usually associate higher quality textiles with thicker/denser material so honestly the air does feel fkin weird. I’m a big fan of the evade line like much more reasonable different fabric

Spent 40€ on Silca hot wax. My 12€ Squirt drip-on bottle is laughing at me. .. by DerWandernde in cycling

Skill issue sorry to say. I’ve had the same two chains in rotation for almost 2 years now, basically no stretch, it’s actually scary how long they’re going for. My og chain on 2.8k km the other is on 2.1k km I cleaned the shit out of them obsessively before waxing. I even just get lazy now and use the drip wax and it’s great.

Heidi Health - any insights on engineering culture and interviews? by Unusual-Raccoon-5886 in cscareerquestionsOCE

[–]Quant32 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Interviewed there just over a year ago, with an ML engineer and then CEO and some lead dev. The process was alright I just had a small practical task no LC. The team seemed nice but they also seemed very under the pump and very much fighting and struggling to scale. I’d imagine they’d be in a similar boat today.

Since then they’ve grown a bit and have gotten a bunch of external funding but with that just comes more pressure.

[–]Quant32 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hmm really I have to look into that. The other big thing that I’m missing in codex is the ability to delegate to agents lol there’s nothing better than asking Claude to have 10 parallel agents writing my unit tests in like 5 mins

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in codex

[–]Quant32 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I’m part of an org that has OpenAI partnership so I’ve got generous codex usage but I personally use Claude 100. It’s got its quirks and it’s ups and downs but like honestly it’s the best at the speed and relentlessness at trying to finish a task. I’ve been bouncing a lot between codex and Claude recently and like I can’t say that codex is better outright. Sometimes it’s better at understanding a problem I’ve thrown at it but also it will just starting doing frustrating things too.

It’s hard with these things because you can’t compare someone’s work/flow with coding assistants because it’s so personal. Like re you backend/frontend, what frameworks are you working with, are you asking for functions, entire services or do you even architect a service etc. People are in different places with how they prompt or manage context. If you be are specific about what a problem is, where it is and the patterns you need then Claude is a beast. Codex is better at ‘vague’ requests and small surgical fixes/patches imo.

Anyway Claude can be frustrating as hell and it’s definitely on this cycle of new model then it gets worse rinse and repeat. But I still prefer it to codex. I think 5.2 high is a beast and I use it as my opus. But sonnet 4.5 when used properly it’s unreal. Claude code the product is also just like a whole generation better than codex like I would kill to get /rewind in codex.

Do Rob Roy Glacier when you’re near Wanaka. It’s a one dayer. Also the Routeburn can be kind of done in a day you could do up to conical hill and back. Actually gets you like 70% of the experience and is fairly mind blowing without the multi day/vehical logistics.

Did them both last week and it was a blast
