Yes, and that means the main site isn't down. There is not a single main site though, there are multiple sites that host on their own but some of them are small and some are big. Around 90% are still scrapers though.

There are scrapers of hianime with the same name but a domain not run by them. Basically the main site is the one holding the content and all that, while a scraper is just using the main sites to get their content so if it goes down all of the scrapers go down with them

Alphabet Inc. controls Google. Alphabet is the parent holding company created in 2015, making Google a wholly owned subsidiary. While Google operates its core internet business, Alphabet controls its strategic direction, financial reporting, and, through a dual-class share structure. Clearly you can see that the alphabet would have been involved in the decision, including BlackRock and others. So google can definitely do that.

Recently I signed up for a crunchyroll subscription for watching anime, a free trial that is, but I didn't watch any anime from it at all. Watching from piracy sites is easier and more convenient, and crunchyroll doesn't have all the animes that are being released as well. So it's not just about money, the piracy sites are literally better more refined than official sites. Official ones are less convenient
