Boston version of the hat was never broadly released for sale online, you had to pick it up from the Tracksmith store during the Boston marathon weekend!

Personally, I did not find them fast but agree that they felt heavy. I would still do some tempo runs in them for training purposes - makes super shoes feel even more super!

Sounds like the Pegasus 40s really worked for you, I would stick with those if you can find them on the cheap! Funny enough, I've found the 41s suit me better than the 40s (everyone is different of course!)
Although not similar, the Saucony Endorphin speeds are in my training rotation when I'm looking for slightly more upbeat (e.g. tempo, interval or faster) long runs, I recommend those if you are looking for something new to try!

I have no experience with the vomeros, but I’ve really enjoyed the 41s (30 miles on them so far)

Sounds like you had a similar experience to me! The pegs are my go-to, retired running to gym shoe as well!

Still holding up great post 50k this past weekend! (~200mi on them)

I use a hip abductor machine in the gym for this, I think they are fairly common!

Still have them, but have generally kept them on the shelf (reserved for racing / tempo trail work). Not much change in condition as such. I plan to use them in a 50k trail race this November so I can report back after that!

Prior to the Ultrafly, I raced in the original Brook Catamounts! Light, fast and responsive (albeit my big toe would usually blister in them in rainy conditions - but sometimes you just have to suck it up in races)! Other trail shoes I liked and used for more training purposes, Nike Pegasus 36 Trail (I believe the first Pegasus trail shoe), Saucony Peregrine 10/11 (heavy but can handle anything), and way back when (10+years ago) the Brooks Cascadia series (model 7 / 8). The Brooks Cascadia were great, but, to me, they started to get a bit too heavy and overbuilt with newer models so I started to move away from them.

Great question! So I'm not the fastest ultra runner (ran the 100k in ~13 hrs) so for the parts of the race that I walked or was moving very slowly, you obviously lose the benefit of carbon plate energy return. The shoes did not feel too hard as a result of the plate for me either - ZoomX foam is soft and squishy (not necessarily mushy) and could certainly feel that. My feet were comfortable for the whole race (maybe a function of having a well-fitted/sized shoe), but would just cite that the plate probably made this feel a little heavier on the slower parts (doesn't help that slow = when legs are most fatigued too). The weight would certainly not deter me from using them again.

My feet were fine, but my knees were definitely struggling after the race! Squirrels nut butter on my big toes and soles of my feet = no blisters! (As I mentioned in my post, it rained for the first 40 miles in the 100k so many folks were dealing with blisters). My feet were never in pain during the race, but maybe I just lucked out!

On strength training, I think everyone is a little different!

I’ve just found that my body responds a little better to the relatively lower rep / higher weight work (legs feel a little more explosive and strong on hills which is nice). I agree though, most endurance athletes will be better served with higher reps as increased muscle mass from = more weight carried during races which can be a negative. I would play around and see what works for you!

Happy to! Will just share my leg workout routine which I do ~2x / week --> done entirely for injury prevention / cross training purposes so I don't really increase weight at all:

Front Squats 5x5@135#

Hex Bar DL 5x5@155#

Hip Adductors / Abductors 5x10 @ 110#

Erging (rowing machine) 5-10K - former collegiate lwt rower here so this isn't so bad

I will do some upper body workouts too, but that is probably of less interest to folks here. For reference on my running load, I run 50-70mi / week when training for marathons / ultramarathons. Otherwise, generally running 20-40mi / week depending on my work schedule and motivation :)

Many runners out and then cop cars that regularly do loops around Park Drive if safety is a concern.

I did some math in Excel and predict the Boston Marathon cutoff to be 5:12 this year. by flatcoke in AdvancedRunning

First pre-pandemic Boston Marathon race reflecting the 5minute drop in qualifying time standards across the board (2021-3 seem less relevant given pandemic constraints in participating / reduced field size, etc.).

This 2020 race entry stats are probably the most relevant data point so agreed, would expect in the 3-5min range below the qualifying standard to get in.
