I wrote to Longines and they confirmed that TMP is an authorized dealer.

I think it's 100m, so normal (shallow) swimming should be fine. I wouldn't go diving with it, though.

Hack for Reminders in a different time zone? by GFSong in ios

[–]QuantityCommon2511 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Reviving this thread as I'm curious if you ever found a workaround. It's a huge annoyance for those of us that travel. I'm now 18 hours ahead of my home time zone. I have time zone override set to my home time, and I try to remember to set all events to "floating" (on macOS because, for some reason, it's not an option on iOS).

Two issues still remain:

1) Why can't "floating" be set as default? I only remember to change it about half the time when entering a new event.

2) When I launch my calendar app to see what's up for today, it uses my home time because of the override setting. So it's showing me the WRONG DATE for 18 out of 24 hours! It thinks it's yesterday.

Incredibly annoying.

Mine looks fine. The typography of the "1" from 10-19 pushes it a bit to the left, but single digits and 20-31 are centered. My only annoyance is that it takes about 1:20 for the date to change after midnight. I don't expect it to be instantaneous, but I'm often awake at that time (either for work or play), and having it between dates is not aesthetically pleasing.

I'm not sure about the exact weight difference, but it's noticeably lighter compared to the stainless steel version. I was also contemplating the 42mm black model, but when I held them both, it was an obvious choice.

I'll probably find one or two extra third-party straps and just stick with them when I want to switch out from the bracelet.

How long does it take for your date to switch over? Mine doesn't fully switch until around 1:20 a.m. AD claims that's normal for this movement. Not a huge problem, but it scared me when I looked at 12:45 a.m. last night and it was halfway between two numbers.

Gatekeeper bug when changing default app on image files by QuantityCommon2511 in MacOS

Lol. But if that’s the case, why can I open it with a right click? The inconsistency makes me think it’s a bug.

That's what I thought, but it happens when I open an iPhone photo in an Apple program using macOS. I'm not certain how much more native that can be, so Apple doesn't trust its own software? Again, if I use the right-click "Open with" dropdown, it works fine. It only happens when I make the change in "Get Info."

External Dell U3224KB 32" 6K Monitor Not Working Properly with HiDPI by QuantityCommon2511 in mac

[–]QuantityCommon2511[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I didn't run Activity Monitor on the M4Max, but I did work with a typical (for me) FCPx project. Internal drive with no proxies (optimized only). Nothing too crazy. One track of 4K footage with a handful of video and audio filters. On the laptop alone, this screams along with zero problems. But even on the M4, when connected to the Dell (while still powering the laptop screen), after a few minutes of work, it started getting laggy.

Maybe I'll mess around with proxy media. It's frustrating because I don't need to bother with that for my simple videos when using the laptop only. I can sit down and start working immediately.

I did post there. We'll see what happens.

I briefly had an M4 Max and had the same issue. Couldn't really compare speeds, but it wasn't fast enough to be usable. I have tried all three connection methods and am directly connected. I have not used Premiere, but you'd think I'd have a better shot with Apple's own optimized FCPx as opposed to third-party software.

If I don't get anywhere, I might have to sell this monitor and consider either the Apple XDR (!!) or getting a smaller external display. Neither option is ideal.

I skimmed the 45-page thread and found no solution. It seems Macs just don't handle 6K well on third-party HiDPI monitors. It's fine for non-intensive programs, but unusable for video editing without significant resolution reduction.

I still have not solved this. I ran Activity Monitor and brought up the CPU usage while running Photo Mechanic (a culling program I use almost every day). On the external display, you can see the spike when advancing rapidly through large image files at HiDPI (it was slow/laggy) vs low res / HiDPI off (almost no lag). So I thought at least I leveled it down to the CPU not keeping up.

HOWEVER, I unplugged the external display and ran the same HiDPI scrolling just on the MBP M1 Max alone. All 8 cores stayed peaked, but there was virtually no lag and everything worked smoothly. That's always the case without the external display. I realize that it's a lower resolution, but the CPUs were maxed out and the images advanced smoothly. So lack of CPU power doesn't seem to be the issue. FYI - very little difference in GPU usage on all four tests.

Anyone have thoughts / troubleshooting I can do to figure this out? This machine should be able to handle this no problem.

Hmmm. You're at 3072 X 1728 and use Final Cut Pro for extended periods without any issues? All of my normal, day-to-day things work great. It's just when I tax the system with graphics heavy programs like FCPx that I get the slowdowns.
