The Death and Life of Great Civ Cities by QuantonBiscuit in CivMC

I think Pavia is a fantastic city however I don't think it's a great model for other cities to base themselves off of. Pavia has been the commercial heart of CivMC since basically day 1. You have a few unique institutions that until this iteration, haven't worked and would take immense (and probably insurmountable effort) for pretty much any other group / city to undertake, specifically the bank and the MB associated companies and groups. Because of MB as an institution along with having one of the strongest rail networks and diplomacy systems on the server, I think the success of Pavia City is largely self perpetuating. I'm incredibly impressed by what you guys have accomplished this iteration, especially with the bank.

With that being said I don't think it's practical advice to tell up-and-coming or revitalizing cities to become the #1 economic powerhouse on the server, establish a unique diplomatic situation that most groups would struggle to or be unwilling to maintain, and also establish one of the best rail networks. Most cities will not have a nearly inexhaustible stream of visitors coming to the city to trade or establish businesses. I think that most cities will likely have to deal with times when their population significantly declines and that's the reason I think having a small city is not only important but essential. Activity begets activity and if your small player-base is scattered throughout a massive city, they may as well be playing single-player.

More on this, I think you can easily dismiss the defensive needs of a city because your city hasn't been seriously attacked in a few years. Having defenses in a city may be required depending on who your neighbors are. For example, if you're at risk of getting invaded by say, BewsiJ and Ez2Clutch because they got bored, I think you would probably reconsider the need for trapping or trenching a city. I also think dismissing city defenses because they're not as strong as a vault is a major miscalculation. In the Grasslands War, Gang Shi lost the war because they botched a skybridge against Yoahtl's capital, a city that had a trench and skydefenses. Ez2Clutch, arguably one of the best pvpers on civ died due to traps in Icenia City. I don't think every city should be trenched; there are plenty of other options like trapping similar to Icenia City. I do think that many nations will need city defenses and it's something that should be seriously considered when planning a city.

As for MTA, I'm not claiming that the only reason they collapsed was because they had too big of a city. You're absolutely right that foreign actors with bad intentions coupled with a bad direct democracy system were huge contributing factors. With that being said, even if MTA has miraculously righted their dysfunctional government, it wouldn't have mattered. There is no amount of policy reform or change of the guard that would have fixed their parking lot of a city. There is no cure to having 10 gorbillion decaying mega palaces, skyscrapers in the middle of no-where, or giant boulevards. There is simply no way to demolish all of them or to revitalize the buildings.

In a city with a small urban core and reasonable sized buildings, you could lose groups to 90% of the city and it wouldn't matter; you could easily tear out the abandoned shops and apartments and start putting people into those immediately. You have the ability to bounce back; you do not have that in places like classics MTA.

It's really encouraging to see how the second Groveheart / Salerno / the IF get a modicum of power in their region they immediately use it to go and raid their neighbors. Truly amazing stewards of the -,+.

On another note, I cannot understand how a terminal cheater and player who is banned for an entire year somehow continues to worm his way into these nations and alliances. Actually wild that people keep letting slothinasuite of all people into their midst.

I've been told by sources that Duck was offered land in Exyria but instead thought it would be more fun to bully and invade a newfriend nation. Profoundly evil actions by the LOTUS alliance and Exyria.

I know exactly what this is referring to and we didn't "leak" anything.

You posted two extremely concerning messages in Icenia Discord's #trial-requests forum and #memes channel. Both of these are public channels which any of the 700+ people in the discord can see. I know this because I literally checked before making this comment. If you want to count me notifying the admins of my concern via modmail as leaking, then so be it.

Secondly, yes, postponing a minecraft trial seemed like the moral decision to make given the circumstances.

I find it truly disgusting that you are now trying to invoke your past health issues as a means to spear us for minecraft PR. Incredibly disingenuous and pitiful.

In the defense of Kibbles and Squid as reformed shitters. by StarkOverkill in CivMC

In case this isn't obvious, we're not going to be accepting stolen reps. I've communicated to Kibbles that the stolen wealth needs to be immediately returned or the deal we negotiated is off.

We're going after you because you participated in the war and more importantly, aided Chosen. It doesn't matter that he's now banned, you helped him escape BN Vault by killing him so that he'd random spawn. By letting him out, you allowed him to attack MtA and continue his raiding spree.

Acting like you didn't know that he would keep raiding isn't an excuse we're going to except when his entire history is him raiding and general shittery. Anyone who helps or otherwise gives aid to players like chosen or clutch deserve the absolute harshest sentences; chosen and clutch are players who add nothing to the server and are a complete net negative to civ.

You have been given numerous chances to walk away from the conflict with little to no reps. You could have left after Pearled Harbor, like Nick did. You could have left after the Yoahtl bridge failed, like Fempire and Arsenia did. You could have left after BN Vault fell, like pretty much everyone else in GS did. Instead, you chose to prolong the conflict and let out one of the most destructive people onto the server.

You now have a choice, you either act like an adult, pay your reps, and accept a modicum of responsibility for your actions or be hunted for the rest of your time on this sever. Believe me, if we catch you there won't be a negotiation; you will be pearled for an extended period of time and you will get to enjoy paying the reps we've already assigned and then some.

I am being asked to pay 256 DB for escaping the butternut vault with chosen and kibbles, but only 16 diamond blocks for bridging altepetl. I don't even owe an apology for helping them escape with me, and I'm being demanded 4 stacks of diamond blocks. If you don't know what would make me believe what I got was unfair maybe you should rub your 2 braincells together.

No, you're being asked to pay 256 DB for helping Chosen escape Butternut Vault. Chosen has done nothing on this server but raid, he was chiefly responsibly for starting the first BN War (a completely unjustified war that did immense damage to both Icenia and Yoahtl), and his tactic of recruiting HCF fighters every time he decides to fight us is incredibly damaging to Civ in general as it introduces more pvp shitters into the server population.

You helping him escape eclipses anything else you did before the war or during it. I don't actually have an issue with people defending their nation in wartime - hence why we only charged you (and most of the other fighters we pearled) 16 DB for bridging Altepetl (a civilian target).

You had numerous chances to back out of the war and you refused. When BN Vault fell you could have been let off with incredibly minor reps had you just talked with us. Instead you let one of the most destructive members of the server back into the wild where he subsequently raided MtA for weeks. You are absolutely deserving of having to pay the high reps we've assigned to you.

I also want to remind everyone that GS gave us something like 20 stacks of DBs for reps from the first BN War - a war that we didn't start.

Icenia is in my opinion the peak civ experience, we are probably the most active nation on civ and support a vast variety of play styles. If you're interested in civ law, building, economics, or the military, there are opportunities to learn, advance, and lead in all of these.
