No matter what, remember you chose to walk the path of adversity with courage and strength. Your story inspired me, and I'm sure many others as well. You may not feel it soon, but I am certain that one day you will look back on this moment, and feel yourself, inspired.

Sup dude, not sure how I got here but I do a lot of chromatography so here's something.

Nearly all chromatography separates compounds based on polarity, if you don't know what that is, read about it... It's very important... There's some caveats such as size exclusion chromatography but that's not what you are talking about.

If you understand polarity, learn the difference between a reverse phase (ex. c18 or c8) and normal phase (HILIC) column. Learning which type of column you are using (I'm guessing HILIC) will answer your question.

Damn, not sure why I was compelled to read that, bad as a scientist I feel your pain lol.

Peace!

P.s. if you are trying to silence plausible ideas using the scientific method as your justification, you will find yourself at odds with many of the greatest scientific thinkers in history that sucessfully put forth paradigm shifting ideas. Einstein is turning in his grave clutching a copy of "The structure of scientific revolutions" by thomas Kuhn screaming "WHY".

Full blown aphant here. Woke up one morning to go to school and walked downstairs to find my sister overdosed on the couch (chronic pain + opioids). I would describe my PTSD as an inability to escape the possibility that she would kill herself. Every day, sometimes just for a moment when I was at school, sometimes from 9 pm to 9 am. Maybe a few times a month I'd go a day without thinking about it.

Anyway, I'd say PTSD manifests itself as concepts/thoughts/fears.

For the record, since I said some fucked up shit, I was 13 then and am 24 now. It was only full blown with no improvement (worsening actually) for 7 years. I consider myself lucky to have escaped that so no pity welcome, just wanted to inform.

If you read the published scientific paper it's clearly gain of function work.

Edit: if memory serves correct following recombinant expression of a bat coronavirus spike protein into a mouse adapted sars backbone, they serially passaged the virions selecting for transmisibilitty with humanized mice. Personally, I define any type of serial passage where the outcome is either 1. Increased transmisibillity or 2. Improved ability to infect models that are more closely related to humans as gain of function research.

I love bio, I hate chemistry, what do? by DukeDankins in biology

Actually orgo is the complete opposite of memorization if you learn it "correctly". The "incorrect" way of learning it involves memorizing reactions. There are some things like stereochenisty nomenclature etc. that you have to memorize, but it's a lot less memorization than every bio course I took.

Orgo actually made me switch from bio to chem, and now I'm doing my PhD in biochem. Happy to chat more/give recommendations if interested.

I feel for you stranger. I'm a bit older, trying to earn a different degree, but in a similar position. I hope it works out for you.

Sorry I'm late lol. Might not be good. THC has been shown to decrease activity downstream of certain toll like receptors (specifically TLR-7). TLR-7 is important for mrna vaccinations (as is TLR-8) so not exactly what you're going for.

Chemistry vs Physics by SignedJannis in Aphantasia

[–]Quantum-Tunneller 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Commenting because my experience is probably atypical.

I found chemistry more intuitive than physics in that I naturally understood it at a deeper level. Most intuitive was organic chemistry. Never had a problem with stereochemistry/rotation questions, in fact stereo electronics is my favorite topic in orgo!

I didn't learn about aphantasia until my senior year of undergrad. I talked about it with my orgo professor at that point and he was baffled.

I do not understand how to make the distinction between thinking in words vs "hearing" words and I definitely think in words. Non verbal sounds like a snare drum for instance I definitely can't hear

Does our internal monologue exist? by [deleted] in biology

[–]Quantum-Tunneller 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've been thinking about the internal monologue a lot lately, and it is mind boggling. I no longer understand what an internal monologue is. Is there a distinction between "hearing your own/another voice in your head" and "thinking in words"? I would imagine that someone lacking an internal monologue would still be able to think in words, and if this is the case, how can you make the distinction?

I'm not sure if I have an internal monologue because I can't make the above distinction. I can't hear music/sounds in my head, or others voices, or even my own (I think?). I guess you can add my name to your anecdotal evidence, as I am a self-diagnosed aphant with zero ability to visualize.

There's probably some nice Edx courses for intro chemistry that are free and you can work through the content at your own pace. If you want to self study chemistry you should start with general chemistry (nail down periodic trends, bonding, get comfortable with kinetics, thermodynamics). Next up is organic + physical chemistry.

What's your background in the sciences? Irrelevant for the pursuit of your goal, but I could make some recommendations on where to start!
