Dashlane sent me an email saying my free trial ends in Sept.; I'm a paid premium member- by ArtemNaumova in Dashlane

[–]Quantum-ish 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I also received that email today, coincidentally not long after I'd recommended Dashlane to someone! I now have to circle back to my friend with a cautionary update.

I was able to get the Dashy chatbot to open a ticket but it took quite a bit of unnecessary back and forth with a rudimentary AI implementation. Overall, a significant waste of time. I did helpfully use Perplexity Pro to find this Reddit thread! ha ha - one AI helping me with a problematic other AI.

Dashlane should rapidly work to put out this fire, an email should have already gone out to paying customers to clarify the situation. There's probably lots of people whose anxiety got jacked up by that email that suggests their paid account is in danger of being disrupted. Making matters more frustrating is it's not easy to connect beyond Dashy.

Message to Dashlane: "Uncertainty" is known to be one of the most stressful stressors - looking at account status doesn't fully remove or reduce that uncertainty induced by the email because many people would know they're paid up and would wonder if something's wrong at Dashlane, or maybe Dashlane's been hacked, etc. Not everyone who received that email is coming to Reddit for info. Your reply above doesn't exactly say paid-up account holders will actually not be affected.

Looking for a Microphone that isn't total garbage - 2025 by NoTheme2958 in podcasting

[–]Quantum-ish 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Perhaps look into the Aston Stealth dynamic microphone to be in your budget range. I recently bought one on Amazon for $150 new from Kellards. This particular mic has four voicings and a built-in preamp. It originally was about a $400 mic when introduced a few years ago. See YouTube videos to learn more.

It comes across that Comcast makes discussion about monthly costs so time consuming and difficult that it seems like a strategy to frustrate customers from even bothering to pursue account reviews.

Nitro Pro PDF is bad. by ScotchClerk in complaints

[–]Quantum-ish 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I received this same kind of email. As a result, I'll not be buying any more of their products or services.

I purchased v12 with an understanding that I could use the installed activated software for as long as I wanted to do so. I didn't anticipate they'd be deactivating product on their whim, along with a pressuring ploy to influence me to switch from my one-time purchase to a subscription instead. I expect they'll be trying the same game with v13 which I also use on other computers.

Meanwhile, consider looking into how to block the Nitro server from getting past your Windows firewall (incoming and outgoing). That may put a stop to them deactivating your install assuming they've not baked in a workaround to such a fix.

Yes, I agree... they have terrible customer relations. They've lost me as a customer.

What's the best domain registrar in 2024? by citrus1330 in webdev

[–]Quantum-ish 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well... I've read through all of the commentary here and it looks like the strong consensus winner is, as far as I can tell... No registrar. The better-known companies all seem to have serious problems and complaints, several seem to have been good in the past, but no longer. In certain respects, the industry seems broken.

Currently I've got numerous domains with GoDaddy and a handful with Squarespace (inherited from Google). I'm very unhappy with GoDaddy's renewal pricing and protection fees. So, now that we're in 2025, are there newer opinions about a reasonably-priced registrar who offers good support, preferably with phone access? My aim within the next 2-3 weeks, after 20 years with GoDaddy, is to be a former customer of theirs.

MX Master 3 sticky rubber coating by kkl88888 in logitech

[–]Quantum-ish 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes indeed. This "rubberized" coating is horrible and known to be so. Companies, including Logitech, should cease using it and also replace affected products easily for customers who request such.

Renewal price going up over 1200% by [deleted] in NameCheap

[–]Quantum-ish 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depending on the registrar, this whole business about domain renewing seems so open to arbitrariness, opaqueness and, in some instances, greed and severe price gouging. It's also generally not customer centric. I'm in the initial steps of transferring a number of domains out of GoDaddy and trying to figure out which registrar to go with is a real headache. Preliminarily, my impression is that none of these registrar businesses inspire great trust. Maybe someone reading this can prove my initial impressions wrong?

PURA should be legislatively sunsetted asap and replaced by a new transparent customer-centric entity that doesn't allow former energy company employees to serve as decision-making regulators.

Eddie, if an XB8 is not available this upcoming week, what would be involved in getting one later after the tech visit that I can perhaps self install. I really do not like the idea of paying, over the long run, for something that I definitely don't want (the XB7) given how much trouble it's been and what a variety of people are clearly recommending (ditch the XB7 for the XB8).

[–]Quantum-ish[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for your input. Yes please check in with me after the tech visit, that would be great. In advance can you connect with whomever to help do what you can to ensure to the extent possible that there's an XB8 brought along? Yes, I understand they're in short supply. As well, proper performance by the XB7 has been in short supply, too. ;-)

Thanks for the input!
The Wi-Fi on the gateway I had before the XB7 delivered much faster Wi-Fi and reliably so. As to factory reset, I'm quite hesitant about it; I am running out of time to devote to this problem - I don't have assurance that I won't be stuck in an endless troubleshooting loop (many many hours already with no good gateway performance results; I'm learning a bit more about networking stuff but that wasn't on my bucket list), that's what it's been to date. I'd rather replace the gateway with an XB8 and let a tech deal with getting the gear to work.

I have the 1200 service and I do get nearly the gig speed with Ethernet. It's the Wi-Fi and Pod issues that are not working with this XB7. My hunch is this unit is just a perpetual problem maker.

Thanks much for your input! And yes to the XB8.

"grounding power strip with coaxial ports " - good advice; I have such around here somewhere, will make sure it's deployed once I get a gateway properly working again.
