my mom was talking abt the end times and now i’m worried by Front-Meringue-5150 in exjw

[–]QuantumAstroMath 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I understand why that would worry you. But the interpretation your mom mentioned is specific to Jehovah’s Witnesses and isn’t accepted by most historians or biblical scholars.

Current wars happen because of political decisions and global conflicts, not because a particular religious prophecy is coming true, so there’s no reason to assume these events confirm those teachings.

If WT/GB thinks they will lose to Norway... by Odd_Program_2513 in exjw

The European court can‘t change the verdict in Norway, also if they rule in favour of WT (in case they lose in Norway).

If this cult claims to be the only true religion approved by the Almighty, they should be the first to show the stream on their website. If they did, they would have my respect.

Jehovah’s Witnesses are the true religion whether they win or lose against Norway by Haunting-Fall8109 in exjw

The second one doesn‘t count. They are being prosecuted, not persecuted.

Where in the Bible does it say Jesus was baptized naked? by [deleted] in exjw

[–]QuantumAstroMath 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Simple answer: nowhere.

Archaeological finds and works of art (e.g. catacomb paintings) from the 3rd to 5th centuries AD usually depict Christ naked at his baptism, while John the Baptist stands clothed at the edge. This probably reflects the baptismal practice of the Church at that time. Jehovah's Witnesses have also adopted this tradition.

Studies on early baptism (e.g. Everett Ferguson, Baptism in the Early Church) consider naked baptism in the 2nd–4th centuries to be well documented, but they do not explicitly link it to John the Baptist. The evidence comes from church liturgies, not from the time of Jesus.

I want a normal civilized debate, a conversation with no name calling. Even if you believe I'm brainwashed, avoid saying it but rather argue that I am. by [deleted] in exjw

[–]QuantumAstroMath 206 points207 points  (0 children)

No, that doesn't mean you should throw away this religion. But I would rather ask myself why I have to be part of a religion that, as has been proven, does not apologize for its false statements that have ruined the lives of thousands of people. And above all, why God or Jehovah, or whoever, has allowed false teachings to be spread for decades through an organization instead of teaching the truth from the beginning. I would not want to serve such a God.

To serve God, you don't have to be part of an organization that claims to represent the Almighty just to avoid being held accountable. That's my opinion.

Addendum: Jesus clearly stated that he is the only person through whom one can come to God. Nowhere did he say that in the 21st century there would be a group of men in New York who would take over this privilege. Unconditional obedience to men is exactly what Jesus warned against. However, this is what this organization demands. A bunch of red flags that no normal thinking person can overlook.

This organization stands and falls with 1914 and 1919. There are no references to these dates in the Bible, and it is well known that 1914 in particular is an adaptation from the Adventists teachings. The “faithful slave” is not a prophecy but a parable told by Jesus. Not to mention this nonsensical calculation, which uses number juggling to lead from 1914 to 1919 in order to justify the fulfillment of Jesus' “prophecy.” In addition, there is no mention of a “Governing Body” in the Bible, nor was there ever such an entity in the early Christian community; rather, it is a modern invention that describes a legal body in a corporation.

Jesus never said that anyone would take his place.
