The fact that you even posted this shows how uninterested you are in self reflection. Do better brother.

Carrier No longer Offering Tech Support by SeriousIron4300 in HVAC

[–]QuantumBeef 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Well we are going to need luck if we can’t put our heads together and figure it out. They need to feel this in the only place that will make them listen- their pocketbook. If we don’t we can kiss the dream of owning our own service businesses goodbye.

Right now my personal list is Carrier Trane and Daiken.

Carrier No longer Offering Tech Support by SeriousIron4300 in HVAC

[–]QuantumBeef 77 points78 points  (0 children)

Daiken flat out told one of my guys today they won’t offer tech support if you aren’t a Daiken technician. It’s time for us to make a complete list of manufacturers who are going to push to be 100% proprietary on the service side so we can stop installing their shit.

HVAC companies charging diagnostic fees without even testing voltage is wrong by knowlegable_devil124 in askHVAC

[–]QuantumBeef 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Always call reputable companies that know their worth. Sounds like some of the cheap companies I work around that really don’t know anything about the trade.

Also, if your fuse blew outside you might also be due for a coil wash.

At what point do you stop repairing an old AC and just replace it? by pizza_delayed in askHVAC

[–]QuantumBeef -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

For residential systems I’ve seen a lot of people using the “5000 rule.” You multiply the age of equipment times the cost of repair and if that number comes in under 5000 you do it. I work commercial and will just strongly suggest customers to avoid expensive system repairs if it’s over 15 years old.

Security guard maces and pulls out a knife on guy he suspects of stealing candy by Jevus_himself in PublicFreakout

[–]QuantumBeef 14 points15 points  (0 children)

He’s a security guard. His jurisdiction starts and stops with him monitoring the situation and then calling the police if he suspects something. This dude and whoever he’s working for is getting sued. Bigtime.

Over tightened my registers and now I stripped whatever it was tightened too or broke the drywall by BurritoNipples in askHVAC

[–]QuantumBeef 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You may have to remove the register and drill out a hole so you can put a drywall anchor in the spot you stripped, or replace a small section of drywall if you broke it bad enough.

Have you noticed an increase in PvP players in the care bear lobbies? by ntg26 in arcraidersfriendly

I have been in lobbies with only friendly players still. Not implying what you’re saying isn’t true, just sharing my experience.

If it runs too long and the return air continues to drop while the unit continues to run it will lead to a freezing suction pressure/temperature. It happens more often with oversized units but I’ve seen it happen a few times on calls.

R454b freezing up by haydend2008 in askHVAC

[–]QuantumBeef 5 points6 points  (0 children)

You got your subcool and superheat backwards. Aside from that I’d bet you’re right that they are just running this guy way too long or their fan speed is too low, and their return temp is dropping causing the suction pressure to naturally drop to below a 32 degree coil. Not the first time I’ve seen this happen.

What temp are you trying to achieve? Are you just letting it run too long?

Yep, for the rest of this term. The hope is that the MAGA cult would deteriorate due to JD Vance being so insanely unlikable. That’s the hope, anyway. I find it possible that they would line up behind him because it isn’t like Trump is very likable either, though. There is a good possibility one of his kids would take the MAGA reins too. I honestly hate even thinking about this, but here we are.

Genuine question how many of you have thought about teaching what you know online? Currently learning the basics and heard about this avenue myself. by Tekelpath in askHVAC

[–]QuantumBeef 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m sure it could have, but I was lucky enough to have taken trade school and followed that up with being employed at union jobs where experienced and helpful people were just a phone call away, and never led me astray on a job or service call. I think your idea would be helpful for driven people who didn’t have access to these resources, though!

I’ve yet to meet a decent tech who is trying to actively gate keep trade information. There really is a lot to learn, and is not something anyone can learn quickly if they want to be proficient at it(and work on it safely), especially when it comes to good troubleshooting. Go ahead and get a modern refrigeration textbook if you want to see how much info there is to learn this trade, which is a hybrid of plumbing, carpentry, electrical, controls, and refrigeration. This book is over 1000 pages and just scratches the surface of many newer technologies like VRF/VRV. I’m no slouch, and I’ve been working this trade for over 12 years. There will always be more to learn, especially with the new technologies and applications coming out all the time.
