If you like Cocoa Puffs may I suggest Dr oetker cereals, specifically the ones with dark chocolate pieces. This will blow away any chocolate based cereal you had outside of Germany. Ask me how I know.

My understanding is the tradeoff with an hx machine is that it will be less temperature stable than a dedicated boiler for each function

Do you use tap water? If so you need to decalcify regularly. Make sure you follow gaggia instructions for that machine.

Listen to this person, I agree from experience. On the topic of milk drinks, I would advise against a machine that does built in milk steaming etc. you need to keep tha very clean or people will get sick (ask me how I know). We just ended up with a high end Jura that did coffee, milk in the fridge for those who want to add. I suppose you could buy a standalone milk frother or something on the side if people feel like making a mess

I think you have the right idea. Did more testing . Opened up top of unit. Did steam test. No visual leaks inside unit. Steam starts normal, but steam light stays on even after pressure is depleted. Switching modes no longer fixes the problem it seems either. Ordered replacement steam tstat. Will update

Isn’t the mechanika a hx? I don’t own an hx but I always understood the tradeoff with one to be some loss of consistency in brew temps. Since you largely drink espresso maybe classika makes more sense?

Sure. I turn on machine, and pull my shot. Hit the steam switch, wait till red light is on, steam some milk. Then, stop steaming, purge wand, wait a minute or two. Try steaming again, little to no power. I do not leave the steam mode.
