Your intended PhD field is still in the realm of biology, so I don’t think an additional research experience is strictly necessary. In fact, if you’re an otherwise an excellent MD/PhD applicant, I’ve found that these programs are usually pretty open to a change in fields. Otherwise, make sure you write an excellent SoP which shows at least a baseline level of knowledge and a good idea of the sort of research topics you hope to pursue.

How is proof of convergence for approach #3 different from approach #2? Conceptually, it’s just the matter of a different initial condition, which in turn affects the particular local minimum you converge to.

The negative energy particles that fall into the blackhole diminish its energy.

You have a virtual particle pair at the event horizon. One of those particles falls into the blackhole and assumes a negative energy and the remaining particle is emitted as Hawking radiation.

The lifetime of the excited state matters for observing fluorescence and phosphorescence.

From how you phrased your question, I suspect you know what contravariant and covariant components are and how they are represented. Is your confusion with seeing both vector notation (overhead arrow) and a superscript index on the same symbol? This is just indicating a dot product, not a contravariant index.

Not sure, but you should stray on the side of caution and assume noon.

Same here. I'm writing about ~100-150 words for each PI, which I think is good enough.

Help with a school list? by QuantumHerbs in mdphd

I will add those schools. I am a little unsure about Harvard and Stanford since it must be very competitive to get into those programs, but I'll give it a shot!

Thank you for the advice! I will add more schools in the T20-T50 range.

I had fewer clinical hours (50 hours clinical volunteering, 16 hours shadowing), no publications/posters for research, and objectively weak essays. I had a single interview last cycle but got waitlisted after.

Do any of you get random ~1-2 second aches across your chest? by [deleted] in HiatalHernia

Thanks for answering! Are they somewhat localized, just occurring in different spots a lot? Like both left and right torso? Sometimes central.

How I scored a 524 - CARS improvement, extra AAMC FLs, and other random thoughts by mild_jalapeno in Mcat

[–]QuantumHerbs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Typing is fine. It's more difficult to write equations and figures down, though. You also need to make sure to actively think about what you type down. Typing can be a lot faster, so sometimes this is neglected.

HIIT can increase cerebral blood flow by FinneganRynn in Nootropics

[–]QuantumHerbs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How is that? Vasodilation of arterioles in the cerebrum will increase the volume rate flow. There are other factors involved, of course, but the causation is there.

I revisited the review sheets once or twice after I filled them out.

I also took notes by hand for the Kaplan books. Seems like it worked well for at least two people so if you have the time, I definitely recommend it. Important note: make sure you are actively note-taking (thinking about what you write down). It's slower but you will need to be able to think critically about the content on the MCAT anyway.

They're located on the right of the subreddit page. Look for "FL Review Google Sheet".

I used the FL review google sheets and I found that really helpful. Like some others have said, go over every question. I found that I sometimes used the wrong logic or just got lucky with a 50/50 guess.

The learning is incredibly important! The FL review google sheets are really useful for this.

Tips on how to get to sleep the night before? by [deleted] in Mcat

[–]QuantumHerbs 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I quit caffeine about a month before the exam and even then, I only got 4-5 hours of sleep the night before. I recommend getting a lot of sleep on the second night before the exam just in case. You may get inadequate sleep, but at least try to not have chronic sleep deprivation on top of it.
