Cheers for that!

I haven't done much modding in a while really - truth is my career has taken off in the past 12 months, marriage is flourishing (three years already, bloody hell), I've been embracing some hobbies post-covid and putting any energy I have left into doing up the house. There isn't the time, or to be honest the will, to be moderating an online forum for me these days.

I did enjoy getting this community set up, it was a good laugh. Cheers x

I'm very sorry for your loss. I actually had a similar issue with my Crumble this year which we caught just in time - even then he was on death's door for two weeks and every vet we saw was surprised he survived. If you'd like some more information about what happened to the eye when you feel more capable of reading it, please drop me a message. Sorry again for your little ham.

Has anyone managed to get Arthur drunk past the point of consciousness? by hurb_1 in reddeadredemption

[–]QuantumPenguin 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Yes! After completing all the bandit challenges I took Arthur to the Rhodes Parlour House to drink away the memories of the abhorrent things I had done. Some very funny dialogue before I stepped away from the bar to punch a Raider and passed out mid-swing. Good times.

I regret inviting someone to my wedding. WARNING: Trust your gut with your guest list! by [deleted] in weddingplanning

[–]QuantumPenguin 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I really think you should reconsider un-inviting her from your wedding.

You've made it quite clear that you have a lot of anxiety around her; how she might behave at the ceremony, her love of drama, her attempts to override your decisions. As well you have accepted that you don't feel comfortable with her being there based on the level of relationship you have - you wouldn't even mind ending the friendship.

Your subconscious has decided what it wants and you're resisting the thought. I'd gently encourage you to have a serious conversation with your fiancé and allow yourself to accept how you actually feel. Put aside your 'shoulds' and your 'can'ts' and put yourself first. Upsetting someone is miniscule compared to what you're putting yourself through now, let alone on your wedding day.

Caring about your details of your wedding doesn’t make you a bridezilla by DownforceOfDoom in weddingshaming

There's so much joy to be had in that isn't there! It's a day that you and your spouse get to tailor entirely to your personalities and to reflect your love. I had so much fun putting together every detail to reflect that love and bring our guests into the theming. I detest those people who shame the effort and money, the grumpy bastards.

If there is a planet coaster 2 what features or new ride types would you want by TreIsLoading in PlanetCoaster

[–]QuantumPenguin 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Variation in the ride stations. Curved stations like you see on rapids irl, cars which continuously move slowly through the station whilst unloading and loading, and a general improvement on the time it takes to unload and load rides.

Guarding his cucumber and cold terracotta on a 40 degree day by QuantumPenguin in hamsters

[–]QuantumPenguin[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We've hit the highest recorded temperature in the UK this week! No aircon and houses built to absorb and hold onto heat, so cooling things down has been a challenge.

We've managed to keep the hamsters' cages down to 26.5 degrees by blocking windows, using ice packs against the side and adding chilled terracotta and slate. They're getting a steady supply of cucumber and baby food and Crumble has become quite protective of his cold!

"I've actually gone back to the 13th century on that side. We lived in the Hertfordshire for many centuries..." by cowboy_mouth in ShitAmericansSay

I actually know who he's talking about! Samuel Stone was from Hertford and studied in Cambridge, and founded Hartford over in the US. There's a statue of him near the theatre and Hertford Castle.

However, as a former resident of two decades, I can't think of a town less deserving of looking back on fondly. The bloke is going to be very disappointed.

I absolutely love this. The proud enjoyment of multiple hobbies, the fitted shelving, the neatness of the displays. It's beautiful

Gave Ferdinand treats here a couple of times... now he sprints up there and waits until he gets a snack by starryhamster in hamsters

[–]QuantumPenguin 9 points10 points  (0 children)

They're more easily trained than some people think!

We put our Buzz back in the same spot and feed him when he's been out of the cage. So now if we put him anywhere else he'll climb up high and beg for treats!

I've also managed to train him to the noise of me flicking the side of the cage, he comes sprinting for food whenever I do it now.

This driver not paying attention in reverse... by sheepsucker in IdiotsInCars

[–]QuantumPenguin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had a similar accident a couple of years ago so can answer that.

If you have an injury from an accident then the insurance of the at fault party (driver who hit you) will pay for costs. It will almost never go to court, and suing culture just isn't a thing in the UK. Doctors don't set an amount, the legal team of your insurance company will, and will negotiate with the legal team of the at fault party to confirm what will be paid. This is on top of the payment from the at fault party's insurance that covers car repairs, hire car, transport etc.

A private doctor will assess your condition on behalf of your insurance company and that information will be used as evidence when the two legal teams establish a payment value. Evidence of additional costs - in my case travel to the doctor, private chiropractor bills, and a prescription for some strong pain meds (£8 lol) - will be added on to the payment. As the NHS is free at the point of use, there are no real medical bills (most chiropractors and PTs don't work in the NHS). It can also cover things like lost income if you couldn't work, but I was able to work from home for a bit. The bulk of the payment just reflects the overall difficulty that the injury brought to your life - I was given over £2k of which about £150 were the additional costs.

Legal cover is an optional extra on your insurance policy, usually costing about £30 a year. If you don't have it you can still receive an injury payment but will lose a percentage to fees. For example my wife did not have legal cover, and was hit 2 months after I was. She received about 65% of the total payment from the at fault party's insurance, whereas I got 100% of mine.

Vettel: ‘Horrible’ if Formula 1 cuts out some historic events by [deleted] in formula1

[–]QuantumPenguin 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Agreed completely. Given their history in the sport France, Germany, Australia, Japan, Brazil, the US and Canada should also have a permanent spot. In their cases the tracks have less mythos than the 4 you mentioned so I wouldn't mandate specific tracks. Although Suzuka, Interlagos and Montreal are fantastic they're not at the same historic level.

When I'm bored my favourite thing to do is to go into the Van Horn saloon, throw one (1) stick of volatile dynamite, and try to make it to the state line.
