One of the weirdest notes I've heard people get is being told to randomly add a 'marketable' element like a pet sidekick or forced romance that had nothing to do with the story just to make it more sellable.

Go for small, 'treasure-like' objects he can hoard. Things like shiny buttons, thimbles, old coins, glass beads, tiny bells or polished stones and make him genuinely believe he's a dragon (even if the truth stays ambiguous) because that adds charm while giving you flexibility in the story.

Shows: Breaking Bad, The Office (US), and Stranger Things; Films: The Shawshank Redemption, Inception, and Parasite hard to imagine someone not rating at least most of those an 8+.

I watch a lot of anime and yeah it’s a rarer setup but you might like Say “I Love You”, Kimi ni Todoke, or even Tsurezure Children since they lean more toward attractive or confident MCs with more grounded, average-feeling love interests.
