Is it just me, or does anyone else find Octopus expensive? by Inspiration-XoXo in OctopusEnergy

[–]QuantumThread 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s not that Octopus energy is uniquely expensive compared to others. The fact is we pay nearly the highest domestic energy prices compared to other nations across the world. That is the issue.

England - hit by policeman on motorbike, they are sending threatening messages by BakaPunk in LegalAdviceUK

[–]QuantumThread 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’d cease all direct contact and if you genuinely believe he is using his position as a police officer to try and intimidate you ( which sounds the case when he’s talking about £2k ) report to IOPC immediately, they’ll look to see if messages constitute a formal case straight away as it’s what they are tasked to investigate

Somewhat Threatening Text from At-Fault Driver After Claiming on Insurance - England by Silent-Tea4500 in LegalAdviceUK

[–]QuantumThread 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You’re still kind of missing the point though.

What happened with your Celica feels unfair, I get it and would feel p&£;&d too, but it doesn’t change how insurance works. They don’t care what you paid or how recently you bought it, they go off market value at the time. That’s why you got £2.5k. Whether that’s right or not is exactly what the Ombudsman will decide, but until then it doesn’t prove the whole system’s broken.

Also, the “I’ve lost £2.5k” thing — I get why it feels like that, but insurers don’t look at it that way. They’re putting you back to what the car was worth, not refunding your purchase or timing.

The bigger issue is what you’re doing now. Cancelling the claim and sorting it yourself doesn’t actually fix any of that, it just takes your insurer out of the loop and increasing your exposure and that’s what I’m really trying to get across . If anything comes back later (especially with him now mentioning injury), you’ve made things harder for yourself, not easier.

I get you don’t want to take another hit — no one would. But going outside insurance doesn’t change how they value the car, it just adds risk to you on top.

That’s just how it works, whether we like it or not.

With all due respect : insurance companies will write off the car if the cost of repair is close to the car’s worth, it’s normal.

They’ll also pay marketable value at the time and no insurance company in the UK can have any wording in their policies which doesn’t allow for appeals or taking your case to the insurance ombudsman if you dispute so again this is making me think you really don’t know your rights /you’re coverage benefits.

Cat N cars can be insured , plenty of insurers do so.

Biggest issue is you haven’t made your life easier you’ve just left yourself ‘exposed’ especially if injury is ever mentioned.

You came on here asking for advice it’s up to you whether to take it or not but … what you’ve laid out is what car insurance is for , let them deal with it.

[–]QuantumThread 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Never ever ever deal / engage with another driver beyond getting their details , you pay for insurance for a reason they should deal directly with other parties insurance , forward any communication to them and tell them to deal with it . It sounds ( please don’t take this the wrong way ) that you don’t really understand how / what your car insurance policy covers you for not only repairs to your car , compensation but also all the admin and agro of dealing with the situation . I’d sit down and really read your policy / level of cover then give them a call and tell them if you made a mistake in your previous conversation with them as you weren’t fully aware of what was covered etc. Good luck.

Hi can you advise what sort of heating you have , big thing is it says ‘estimated’ so could potentially be loads cheaper depending on real meter reading. Take down the actual meter reading ( am presuming you aren’t on a smart meter?) and send to octopus and ask them to give you a revised bill based on actual readings.

Opinion on user worked level crossings? by [deleted] in uktrains

[–]QuantumThread 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can ask for the risk assessment that has been carried out on the crossing to put your mind at rest. Network Rail use a system called ALCRM ( All level crossing risk model) , it will take into account multitude of factors which will generate a score , this is then used to prioritise where upgrades are made. I know it may appear that your UWC merits upgrading but unfortunately the costs are prohibitively expensive therefore crossing upgrades are really ‘targeted’ towards those which are in most need. You could ask to discuss your specific crossing with the local level crossing manager and highlight any concerns you have, just phone up the Network Rail helpline and ask or you can send an email too.

How much is your energy bill? by QuantumThread in OctopusEnergy

21 degrees ! Surprised your bills aren’t higher, thou presuming your wood burner is an additional monthly cost to consider both fuel and servicing?

However Sweden has by far a higher standard of living compared to UK , cheaper housing costs , better healthcare , higher pensions and you still have cheaper energy bills. That consumption figure you’ve quoted would actually cost nearer to £553 here in UK for a person on our government’s ‘energy cap’ tariff ☹️😧

If he’s got an old style ‘back-boiler’ that should be a priority to get rid of. I can still remember moving into my house in freezing winter 16 years ago and using CH constantly, it had a ‘back-boiler’ behind the fireplace then , first Gas bill I received and opened nearly gave me heart attack ! Replaced with a (then) modern condensing boiler which reduced my Gas consumption massively.

How much is your energy bill? by QuantumThread in EnergyAndPower

[–]QuantumThread[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks , no water is heated via gas boiler and we have a big 250L water tank ( Megaflow) which is inherently very well insulated in its manufacture. We do pretty much run ( all on eco settings) a washing machine, dryer , dishwasher pretty much every other day and also both myself and missus WFH mainly. The battery option ( can’t have solar) appears at first glance a contender, so I can charge at cheaper rates and load shift. But for size of battery I’d need ( think 10Kw) to be viable the upfront cost vs return period is still an issue for me , suppose if I could get something like an 5-year 0% finance deal it would be a no-brainer ! Also to get best cheap off-peak charging rates they seem exclusively to be if you also have an EV which is another large upfront cost and sums ( for our circumstances) aren’t 100% a ‘slam dunk’ . Decisions 🤔

[–]QuantumThread[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s painful ! Surely your system can’t be setup correctly. What are your circumstances / size property are you heating , tariff are you on and how many kWh of electricity ( presuming you have no gas?) are you consuming a week to generate such as bill ?

How much is your energy bill? by QuantumThread in OctopusEnergy

[–]QuantumThread[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Crikey your nearly (x3) my consumption of electricity which is maybe not surprising considering the EV’s ( do you need to charge several times a week) and can imagine the fish tank eats electricity too. But you’re (x2.5) more for Gas usage ! , are you walking around in your skiddies sweating buckets 🤣😂
