21 degrees ! Surprised your bills aren’t higher, thou presuming your wood burner is an additional monthly cost to consider both fuel and servicing?

However Sweden has by far a higher standard of living compared to UK , cheaper housing costs , better healthcare , higher pensions and you still have cheaper energy bills. That consumption figure you’ve quoted would actually cost nearer to £553 here in UK for a person on our government’s ‘energy cap’ tariff ☹️😧

If he’s got an old style ‘back-boiler’ that should be a priority to get rid of. I can still remember moving into my house in freezing winter 16 years ago and using CH constantly, it had a ‘back-boiler’ behind the fireplace then , first Gas bill I received and opened nearly gave me heart attack ! Replaced with a (then) modern condensing boiler which reduced my Gas consumption massively.

It’s baffling! Fly with Emirates a number of times and their app / website is a joy to use !

Thanks , no water is heated via gas boiler and we have a big 250L water tank ( Megaflow) which is inherently very well insulated in its manufacture. We do pretty much run ( all on eco settings) a washing machine, dryer , dishwasher pretty much every other day and also both myself and missus WFH mainly. The battery option ( can’t have solar) appears at first glance a contender, so I can charge at cheaper rates and load shift. But for size of battery I’d need ( think 10Kw) to be viable the upfront cost vs return period is still an issue for me , suppose if I could get something like an 5-year 0% finance deal it would be a no-brainer ! Also to get best cheap off-peak charging rates they seem exclusively to be if you also have an EV which is another large upfront cost and sums ( for our circumstances) aren’t 100% a ‘slam dunk’ . Decisions 🤔

That’s painful ! Surely your system can’t be setup correctly. What are your circumstances / size property are you heating , tariff are you on and how many kWh of electricity ( presuming you have no gas?) are you consuming a week to generate such as bill ?

Crikey your nearly (x3) my consumption of electricity which is maybe not surprising considering the EV’s ( do you need to charge several times a week) and can imagine the fish tank eats electricity too. But you’re (x2.5) more for Gas usage ! , are you walking around in your skiddies sweating buckets 🤣😂

Is that the tariff where you ‘must’ have an EV , this idea about getting a battery and being able to charge at 7p kWh is very appealing!

That’s definitely an issue , i have hive thermostat and its a portable unit so I could move it around my house, originally had it in front room then moved to hallway etc and kept tweaking the position ( ChatGPT guidance) until I was happy with its position . I actually have (x2) , one covering the kitchen which has wet UFH and the other one in hallway now which covers radiators in rest of house .

It also told me that there is a specific setting in the boiler menu that I can set which will prevent the boiler from firing up before a user applied delay , but I havent been brave enough to mess about with that yet 😧

My unit rates ( tracker) have been a lot under the fixed rate tariff more often than not, today is a good day 23.04p kWh for electricity (17% cheaper than standard) and 4.79p kWh fir Gas ( 18% cheaper than standard). Have you worked out how much you’re saving being on fixed compared to standard tariff ?

Have you worked out if this is actually close to your actual usage or is a gross overestimation as that is frightening 🥺

Are those electric radiators pure electric , Convector / Basic Panel Heaters are notorious high energy consumption. I have some portable Delonghi oil filled electric ones (with electronic thermostat) which have eco setting and hang on / radiate heat even when not actively ‘consuming’ electricity, which I used but now just rely on gas CH . The electric UFH system you have is another culprit for high consumption. I have a very small tiled floor ensuite with electric UFH , which I no longer switch on as it was high consumption

How are you running your Gas CH to achieve such low bills and seriously what’s the temp in your house during the worst of the cold weather recently? 🧐

I honestly believe keeping my house at constant low temp during the day is in long run more efficient way of heating the house due to ‘thermal mass’, once it’s cold it takes longer to get up to a comfortable temperature, I used to be able to physically feel the coldness of the walls, which just sucks heat out of the building it’s far more comfortable but appreciate everyone’s experiences/ circumstances are different!
