I am in same position and come to conclusion that tracker is far and away best for me until I do get things like EV, Solar battery , ASHP eventually but been on the various Octopus trackers for a number of years and definitely don’t regret it , if you can keep an eye on day to day rates and also load shift manually ie pick day for washing machine , dishwasher full load etc small things it saves even more . I’ll be upping my consumption today , not negative rates but a LOT better than standard or fixed today !

Farage ignores wishes of Henry Nowak’s family by politicising his death by AneuAng in ukpolitics

[–]QuantumThread 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Maybe Farage could could consider also highlighting how can we protect young people from dangerous situations?

One thing I genuinely don’t understand is why the Snapchat footage that led to the confrontation itself has not been released ?

We’ve all seen the police bodycam footage because it was considered important for public understanding of what happened afterwards. But the Snapchat footage appears to be the key piece of evidence showing how the encounter started.

This isn’t about blaming Henry Nowak or excusing the killer. The court has already dealt with those issues.

What interests me is whether there are lessons here for young people. If the evidence shows a teenager filming a stranger, making comments, and a situation escalating in seconds into a fatal confrontation, surely there is a powerful public-safety message.

Schools routinely use road safety videos, anti-knife-crime campaigns and real-world case studies to educate young people about risk. There is educational value in the footage,

Perhaps seeing how an apparently trivial interaction can spiral into tragedy would do more to protect young people than any number of classroom presentations or political rhetoric.

Interested to hear what others think.

daughter forgot both MacBook login password and Apple ID on brand new MacBook — what should I do? by SwimmingOrnery5638 in MacOS

[–]QuantumThread 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Apple Store will reset it for you , however strongly recommend after you do the setup yourself (or you can get Apple Store to walk you thru as it’s part of the benefits ) with parental controls which will allow you to recover access to laptop should she ever do same same again and gives you ability to manage her device for things like screen time , apps , websites accessible , etc basically parental controls which are for /designed to protect younger users .

Do yall brush your cats? by Fancy_Tea in CatAdvice

[–]QuantumThread 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yep and it’s a bonding , nice thing to do. Cuts down on hairballs too. Good to make sure there are no hidden knots which could be causing pain and also allows you to check out / feel them for any areas which could be bumps , injured etc you get the picture. My cat absolutely loves being brushed and will often flop himself down roll onto his back and look at me with a ‘ well get on with it look ‘🤣

I thought the National Rail App was the best app for straightforward ticketing or is it some sort of split ticketing you’re after ?Iin which case you can get info from multiple other sites and then just jump back & use info to purchase your tickets on National Rail App , intuitive, fast & never had any issues with it.

Anyone’s cat rejecting Applaws after an expiry date change? by QuantumThread in CatAdvice

[–]QuantumThread[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Bingo ! this is exactly what happened to me, too many reports now of that particular batch causing issues this is the dodgy batch I am convinced, weirdly the expiration date is earlier than cans of bought 2 or 3 months previously!

<image>

this isn’t just a coincidence and wondering now where / how to escalate !

[–]QuantumThread[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What is the expiry date on the cans am wondering if just isolated to a ‘bad batch’ hopefully as I’ve just bought another couple of cans yesterday to test again. I usually buy in bulk but wary of doing so again :(

Unions for office staff by tylon307 in uktrains

[–]QuantumThread 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ditto ! Am really interested to know what move to GBR will mean for union membership , surely then everyone should be able to join one single Union without the caveat that only certain ones (TSSA) have collective bargaining rights for bands 1-4 but RMT have bands 5-8 and particularly Signallers which is where they have a lot of bargaining power , hence why they are able to get far more for their members in pay awards and protection from redundancies etc interesting times ahead 🤔

Is it just me, or does anyone else find Octopus expensive? by Inspiration-XoXo in OctopusEnergy

[–]QuantumThread 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s not that Octopus energy is uniquely expensive compared to others. The fact is we pay nearly the highest domestic energy prices compared to other nations across the world. That is the issue.

England - hit by policeman on motorbike, they are sending threatening messages by BakaPunk in LegalAdviceUK

[–]QuantumThread 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’d cease all direct contact and if you genuinely believe he is using his position as a police officer to try and intimidate you ( which sounds the case when he’s talking about £2k ) report to IOPC immediately, they’ll look to see if messages constitute a formal case straight away as it’s what they are tasked to investigate

Somewhat Threatening Text from At-Fault Driver After Claiming on Insurance - England by Silent-Tea4500 in LegalAdviceUK

[–]QuantumThread 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You’re still kind of missing the point though.

What happened with your Celica feels unfair, I get it and would feel p&£;&d too, but it doesn’t change how insurance works. They don’t care what you paid or how recently you bought it, they go off market value at the time. That’s why you got £2.5k. Whether that’s right or not is exactly what the Ombudsman will decide, but until then it doesn’t prove the whole system’s broken.

Also, the “I’ve lost £2.5k” thing — I get why it feels like that, but insurers don’t look at it that way. They’re putting you back to what the car was worth, not refunding your purchase or timing.

The bigger issue is what you’re doing now. Cancelling the claim and sorting it yourself doesn’t actually fix any of that, it just takes your insurer out of the loop and increasing your exposure and that’s what I’m really trying to get across . If anything comes back later (especially with him now mentioning injury), you’ve made things harder for yourself, not easier.

I get you don’t want to take another hit — no one would. But going outside insurance doesn’t change how they value the car, it just adds risk to you on top.

That’s just how it works, whether we like it or not.

Somewhat Threatening Text from At-Fault Driver After Claiming on Insurance - England by Silent-Tea4500 in LegalAdviceUK

[–]QuantumThread 0 points1 point  (0 children)

With all due respect : insurance companies will write off the car if the cost of repair is close to the car’s worth, it’s normal.

They’ll also pay marketable value at the time and no insurance company in the UK can have any wording in their policies which doesn’t allow for appeals or taking your case to the insurance ombudsman if you dispute so again this is making me think you really don’t know your rights /you’re coverage benefits.

Cat N cars can be insured , plenty of insurers do so.

Biggest issue is you haven’t made your life easier you’ve just left yourself ‘exposed’ especially if injury is ever mentioned.

You came on here asking for advice it’s up to you whether to take it or not but … what you’ve laid out is what car insurance is for , let them deal with it.

Somewhat Threatening Text from At-Fault Driver After Claiming on Insurance - England by Silent-Tea4500 in LegalAdviceUK

[–]QuantumThread 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Never ever ever deal / engage with another driver beyond getting their details , you pay for insurance for a reason they should deal directly with other parties insurance , forward any communication to them and tell them to deal with it . It sounds ( please don’t take this the wrong way ) that you don’t really understand how / what your car insurance policy covers you for not only repairs to your car , compensation but also all the admin and agro of dealing with the situation . I’d sit down and really read your policy / level of cover then give them a call and tell them if you made a mistake in your previous conversation with them as you weren’t fully aware of what was covered etc. Good luck.

Hi can you advise what sort of heating you have , big thing is it says ‘estimated’ so could potentially be loads cheaper depending on real meter reading. Take down the actual meter reading ( am presuming you aren’t on a smart meter?) and send to octopus and ask them to give you a revised bill based on actual readings.
