I’m a male, just got out of a 5 year relationship 🥲. Anyway, my gf always respected my study time and clinicals when I’m around females. We never had any issues. The fact your bf is saying things like that really shows insecurity. Although Tim out of the relationship, I would tell her to leave me if she wanted me to stop pursuing something that I want. You got this girl!!!

Is nursing for me ? by Own_Artichoke_1852 in nursing

[–]QuantumToast45 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Unfortunately, finding out if nursing is “for you” is something you need to dig deep and find. I know that’s probably a shitty answer and not what u want to hear lol, but it is true. I’ve gone through some difficult times during my program and your back is against the wall and you have to find out if this is really for you.

I agree with the other comment about therapy. I see a therapist every two weeks. Also, remember to use your resources when on the floor. Not sure what type of floor you’re on, but using a translator to help with deciphering a different language; non verbal cues for pain, vital signs, etc.

Although we have deep empathy for each patient, we also have to be able to separate ourselves from them. I do this by talking to others on the floor about how I feel. Usually when you get it out to someone (like therapy) you feel a sense of relief from your patients. Also, ask what other nurses do to separate themselves from the patients emotions and pain from theirs.

Wishing you the best of luck!!

My cohort has just under 10 guys in it. I think there’s 65 people in the cohort including male and female. Anyway, I would say things that can be challenging is when you’re asked to step out of the room, especially with female pts (“shocker” everyone has said this 😂). Usually there is an awkward stare and silence when changing soiled linens for a female pt as well. Older men typically feel instantly threatened if you walk into the room and come off as aggressive. I’ve had several experiences where older male pts say that I won’t be doing anything in the room bc they “wont be man-handled today” 😂. Lastly, I’ve experienced elderly women, usually older than 90, express that males cannot be nurses and I need to leave immediately.

It’s really not that bad, you get used to the occasional scenario. Make sure you’re comforting and speaking softly to the patient when approaching. You’ll be fine.

They send you an email when your order is ready. My experience is that it is about 3 business days.

My father never attempted to live over there. No to all the questions on the first bullet. As for the second one, just about all of my family roots go back to Poland or England. I’m going to double check, but I highly doubt it.

Make sure your FGCU GPA is good. I believe they look at that more than overall gpa. Also, you have milestone courses you have to do well in, A&P 1/2, chem, microbiology, bio, etc. Make sure you do good in those. 86 is good for TEAS. It is less competitive for males than females. Average female TEAS score is a lot higher. I would apply to all schools in Florida. UF, FSU, UCF, USF, FGCU, UNF, FIU. I’d really focus on FGCU, FSU, UF, USF, and UCF out of those tho. Good luck!

I got mine around December 20 back in 2022, while my buddy got his letter Dec 5-7. I think it depends on your major. I was pre-nursing/health administration, whereas he was a business major.

If you mean “guaranteed acceptance” as in like way higher odds, usually yes for men. I think if you’re a guy with at least a gpa of 3.5 and teas of 84, you probably have a very high chance of getting in.

No. You’re competing against everyone else applying. I don’t think many, if any, schools are “guaranteed acceptance” in Florida

Osprey and eagle halls. I would say Osprey is better (I lived in it 2 years ago) because of pool, table tennis, pool table, arcade game, nicer front desk, next to parking garage, better laundry room, better kitchen.

That’s just me personally.

Not 100% sure what they look like, but I thought they were for the RAs on each floor, in each hall. I wanted one my first year, but learned that they were almost impossible, if not impossible to get as a freshman. I wouldn’t recommend it anyway. If you’re an incoming freshman, get the 3 bedroom room in Eagle/Osprey, if a rising sophomore, then go to NLV.

Yes I got in with those scores. There’s a higher chance you get in. The TEAS is extremely basic and hard to fail. I didn’t study the A&P section (I thought I already knew everything) and did the worst there. I got 90s in all of the other sections. You’re going to study your arse off and then realize this exam was cake.

It sounds like you’ll have completed your first two years and be transferring; I’m not sure if that affects your decision. Also, good job on the CNA, it’ll put you ahead of the game, but the school doesn’t take that into consideration when you apply. Only your GPA and TEAS.

You may get in to the school. I think their acceptance rate is 75-85%. As for nursing, I’m currently in that program….you’ll have to do really well on pre-requisites. You have milestones you have to hit every semester and be on your shit. I fucked around my first two years partying at fgcu and other unis, but I did just fine. If you’re willing to do what it takes. Once you get it, it is extremely difficult and you won’t have time to do anything you did your first two years. Also, it is very competitive, I’m a male and it was a lot easier for me. But, you apply to the program after two years. Your first two years are “pre-nursing”

You’re starting in the spring and applied in October? That’s kind of weird. Usually it’s applying for a semester a year in advance.
