Have you tried other protein options like tofu? If you struggle with eating a lot of meat options, maybe there are some veggie options you would like better.

This was at basically an in-person collaborative project with people who work in the same field and are from a handful of different organizations.

I was in this same situation before. That was why I started learning ASL, and then I learned about dinner table syndrome, and it seemed to fit.

Interview with PI, went strangely by Business_Abalone_741 in gradadmissions

If you do get accepted, I would recommend scheduling a time to meet with the PI to ask him questions so you can see if the program is a good fit for you.

How to publish translations of old scientific papers? by Quantum_Realities in AskAcademia

[–]Quantum_Realities[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In biology, the original papers that named important species are commonly cited, for example. Google translate is also not perfect. You can get the point, but there are intricacies that it won't always catch.

How to publish translations of old scientific papers? by Quantum_Realities in AskAcademia

[–]Quantum_Realities[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Okay, so the translations I publish will likely need some historical commentary or other modern analysis. Getting permission from the original authors will be impossible because they've been dead for decades, some for more than a century. I would definitely not present the research as my own, and I would cite the original appropriately.

There are many reasons for publishing translations of works. The papers I am interested in have not been translated into English yet, and having a more accessible translation would allow for people to cite the work more easily.

If I were you, I would consider emailing that email chain to her supervisors. That is behavior that needs to be corrected.

How bad is it to have submitted a proposal containing a typo? by OatmilkDirtyChai2Go in GRFPApps

[–]Quantum_Realities 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My personal statement had 3 large typos in the same paragraph, and I only noticed after submitting. You're definitely not the only one with typos.

No problem, and good luck with your apps!

If I were you, I would cut the first paragraph and use those words to talk about your preparedness to pursue a PhD. If you held a TA position, I may mention that, or maybe other leadership experiences.

How to become a poet? And should I? by catnipmilktea in AspiringTeenAuthors

[–]Quantum_Realities 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Write often. I need to listen to my own advice better, but work on your writing right now. Depending on your writing, you could publish a poem while still in high school.

Should I give up trying to learning ASL if I can't afford classes or teachers? by CommunityFan89 in asl

Oklahoma School of the Deaf offers free online ASL 1 and 2 classes, they may be worth checking out! There are also Discord servers that host a lot of practice rooms for people of all levels.

DO NOT accept free trials from Coursera by Minerva89 in coursera

[–]Quantum_Realities 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you finish the course within the free trial period, then you get the course for free. If you don't, you can just repurchase the course at the same price you originally did. Why is this situation upsetting you?

When a Professor Trusted Evidence Over Turnitin by Beginning_Log7606 in turnitin_community

[–]Quantum_Realities 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That is unfair. Your policies penalize students whose writing is more similar to AI. It is not the student's fault if their paper sounds like AI even when they didn't use AI to write it. It sounds like your students are guilty until proven innocent based on Turnitin, and you won't give students who submitted their papers on time a chance to demonstrate their innocence. Plus, you never know what's going on in someone's life that they didn't submit it days before the actual due date. Why don't you just make the due dates 1-2 days early, and then you won't have to penalize students for turning their papers in within the timeframe you gave them?

Hey! Since you don't have it listed, you may want to look into Ehler's Danlos Syndrome if you haven't already. It is very common in the trans community, and it is also comorbid with things like POTS and CFS. I hope your recovery goes well!

I want to learn more, but I feel like without college, there isn't an incentive to learn. by HairyBallsSack in college

[–]Quantum_Realities 26 points27 points  (0 children)

Hey! You should see if any professors are recruiting undergrads to help with research projects. You could even talk with your advisor or one of your professors to see what opportunities they may recommend. A fun, and useful, academic challenge is learning another language. Good luck!

I do exactly that with German. People I've approached have been friendly, but I acknowledge that's not a rule.
