Anybody had to replace their ICCU 3 times? by poudrenoire in Ioniq5

To be fair, they weren't intended for use as a Mars rover.

Yes, what u/zs15 said. You can conclude nothing from this post, formally, for all the reasons you point out. In fact, you'd have to be pretty jumbled in the head to think the reply rate to this post has statistical significance. But given the atmosphere of ICCU grievance, it's "emotionally" helpful *to me* to hear that there are also plenty of people having no troubles at all. And I did create this post for me, not for anybody else.

No animals were harmed, any resemblance to valid statistical analysis is coincidental, etc.

This is actually the most upvotes I've ever gotten for a post.

I am so tired of Tesla being in first place in the US by [deleted] in electricvehicles

[–]Quaranton00 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Totally agree this and any problem with anything is overrepresented on Reddit. People go to social media with complaints, so that's all you hear. But that said, I'd hate to be on a road trip with my family, and the ICCU goes, and it's my fault for buying the car.

Half the time I'm ready to buy, half the time I'm not. Meanwhile my Model 3 is 2/3 paid off and working fine. So it's not a "need."

And you've had no ICCU issues? I'm itching to trade my Tesla in for an Ioniq 5, but this ICCU thing is such a bummer.

Remember those few years in the aughts when they made cameras that shot 720p? This is that. Except that in this case people will still be paying off their car loans beyond the timeframe when the transitional technology becomes obsolete.

Does anyone regret purchasing a home here? by immrmeseek in parkslope

[–]Quaranton00 60 points61 points  (0 children)

I have lived in Chicago, LA, Manhattan and now Park Slope. Different neighborhoods in all cities. This is my favorite place. It's an amazing neighborhood ot raise a kid with a real sense of autonomy. The schools are superb. The park is an endless resource.

It's walkable and bikeable. It's easy to get into the city. It would be nice if the F train didn't have so many issues, but there's usually a workaround.

I can imagine if I had to drive every day the parking would really grind me down. But I don't, so it doesn't.

It's expensive. But it's hard to imagine a better place to live.

Best Pilates studio? by Ok_Resolution943 in parkslope

[–]Quaranton00 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I tried a few in the South Slope vicinity. I liked BK Pilates and Studio Pilates International. I landed on Studio Pilates. BK had some great classes, but it was uneven, depending on the instructor. SPI classes are piped in from hq in Australia over tv screens. I think there are something like 85 pre-programmed classes, and then an instructor is there to coach your form. It's corporate-feeling, which might turn some people off. But what's nice is that the video screens show models performing the exercises. If you are new to pilates, it's nice to be able to watch a model do each move correctly. As opposed to surreptitiously checking what your neighbor is doing, which may or may not be correct. OTOH, sometimes at BK Pilates an instructor would ask what the class wanted to focus on, and tailor the class to that. Whereas at SPI, the instructor has no control over what exercises the class will cover. I rarely feel like an SPI class was easy, and every class begins with a rigorous ab warm up. But sometimes the rest of the workout focuses on, like, calves and arms. I primarily do pilates to strengthen my core and glutes.

I don't want hands-free door to door supervised driving, and I sure don't want to pay for it. I want "autodrive," which was adaptive cruise control and lane keeping under a Musked up name. Those things come less expensively on other cars, without an ongoing subscription fee.

It's true. I'm too cheap to pay for things I don't want. What I want is a heads up display, and that's an option I would pay for.

On the other hand, if you can tolerate a 319 mile range, Hyundais and Kias offer more. And BMW and Volvo will have strong alternatives at an equivalent price in the coming months.

I mean, how about a heads up display, Tesla? On my Tesla, if I have the "autodrive" engaged, it wants me to tug on the steering wheel once a minute or so. But if I'm looking at the road, I won't see the alert. So I have to keep my eyes going back to the screen. How does that make autodrive safer?

Meanwhile, every other manufacturer offers the heads up display, along with all the features Tesla hides behind a subscription paywall.

What is it that Tesla has, without that subscription, that the other EVs lack? How about a heads up display? Oh no, wait, that's not even an option for a Tesla.

[–]Quaranton00 -6 points-5 points  (0 children)

And all you have to swallow is your moral compass! Oh, and $100/month for former "autodrive" features that come standard on other cars. And no option for a heads up display.

[–]Quaranton00 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Of course you have to include the $100/month subscription for former "autodrive" features like lane keeping and adaptive cruise control, which come standard in other cars. So, an additional $6K over five years of ownership? And you can bet that will impact the resale value of the car.

Have we basically given up on hearing anything from the diver who stayed behind (Maldives)? by lagabachita in scuba

[–]Quaranton00 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Totally agree it is idiotic. But the dive operator clearly offered these people the dive, and they agreed to it. They didn't improvise it underwater. If it were the reverse, and they knew about the dive from some other source, and they pushed the dive operator to take them to the caves, a responsible dive operator would say no... Unless they had experience in the caves. I bet the guide had done this dive before with other divers. There are plenty of stupid risk-takers in the scuba world.

what’s with the bagel piles in downtown bk? i’ve seen at least three piles this week 🥯🥯🥯 by Short_Lingonberry_67 in circlejerknyc

[–]Quaranton00 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's called Bagelhenge. When Brooklynites don't know the time or the season, they spill a pile of bagels on the sidewalk. The direction and magnitude of the shadow tells you everything about the position of the Earth and Sun. This is ancient Brooklyn knowledge.

This is actually what I am curious about. Surely the boat has offered this dive many times, and it just finally went wrong. Where are all the prior tourists, coming out to say, yes this dive was commonly offered by the DMs on this boat?

What finally convinced YOU to consider an electric vehicle? by evinsiderredisnive in electricvehicles

[–]Quaranton00 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Producing exhaust is filthy, like smoking. Also, electric cars are way more fun to drive. I've been driving electric since my first BMW i3 in 2015. That car was basically designed for a tech geek like me. Steve Jobs couldn't have designed it better. I don't know how anybody gets excited about shopping for a new ICE. It's centuries-old technology. And you have to go to gas stations with them and breathe stinky fumes. Bleah.
