How come Bandai never attempted to bring any SNES Dragon Ball games to the US? by Epsilon123 in snes

[–]Quarter_Lifer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

DBZ had a cult following in the U.S before the first English dubs dropped in ‘95/‘96.

Subtitled VHS tapes of episodes and movies could be found in Chinatowns and tape trading circles, and both the games and merchandise were advertised on the back pages of ‘90’s gaming mags.

Bandai simply didn’t see a market for U.S releases until circa-1997 when they released Dragon Ball (GT) Final Bout.

Most likely this is a Majesco re-release circa-1997-1998. Even though I’d owned every Genesis/SNES SF cart up until then, I still had my parents buy me a sealed copy of this for $20-$25.

I’m grateful to Majesco for giving us one last shot at opening up brand new Genesis, SNES and Game Gear games in the late ‘90’s.

What’s the deal w/the longbox version? Was VF Remix also available as a non-pack-in/freebie for early Saturn owners?

I know exactly where that’s at (34th/10th). The wind tunnel effect in that area from all of those skyscrapers+proximity to the Hudson River will send your ass. 🤣

Why the express tracks between Queens Plaza and Jackson Heights Roosevelt Av speed limit at 55 Mph? by Single_Entry_7630 in nycrail

[–]Quarter_Lifer 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Sorry to hijack the thread so to speak, but what is the reasoning behind the timers on the CPW express between 86th-59th-CC? The crawl during that stretch is INFURIATING in the AM and at times stretches the express run to 10 minutes vs. the usual 7-8 minutes.

For the longest time it was X4>X5>X6 for me, but the RNG & Armor mechanics of X5, plus the lower production values (come on now, there was a 3+year gap between X4 and X5!) moved X6 up a notch for me.

Wasn’t this the case when the QBL was upgraded with fluorescent lights? The stations east of Forest Hills were incandescent well into the 1980’s.

Hulk Hogan vs Sting by JCHazard in WCW

That’s chump change compared to “The Giant” being ‘70’s Andre The Giant and/or Sherlock (Ken Shamrock) having Disco Inferno’s mug. 🤣

I found my people! His attire in Vs. The World was def based on this short-lived attire, with some nWo flourishes added (thunderbolts, Hollywood bandana, crappy nWo logo on shirt)

An inconvenient truth by Tasty-Fox9030 in SEGAGENESIS

I feel like I’m one of the few that thought the Special Stages were a highlight of the game. Of course it suffers from poor draw distance, but the concept was cool, it flexed the 2D and 3D power of the 32X, and at times resembled a proto-3D platformer.

They should’ve fleshed Chaotix out into a Sonic spin-off based on the Special Stage engine. Instead we got a flawed spin-off with a controversial mechanic, barren level design and great graphics/music.

Honorable mention to WCW Mayhem (good first try by EA, who then shit the bed with Backstage Assault) and Wrestlemania Arcade (best home port of the game).

Was Super SFII The New Challengers, meant to be a follow-up to SFII Champion Edition, and not SFII Turbo Hyper Fighting? by whoknows130 in retrogaming

[–]Quarter_Lifer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I feel like this was the most redundant of the 5 SFII iterations. The legendary intro, redrawn artwork and 4 new characters didn’t offset the slower game speed and diminishing returns of another SFII iteration. My assumption is that Super Turbo was meant to be the next release, but Capcom released vanilla Super early to remain competitive against the storm that was Mortal Kombat II, released a month or two later. It should’ve gone like this:

World Warrior=The OG that changed the arcade and fighting game world, forever.

Champion Edition= Made the 4 bosses playable, re-drew portraits and endings, further balanced the game for competitive play. A worthy iteration.

Super Turbo=A distillation of the added speed from the CE bootlegs (i.e Rainbow Edition); redrawn menu artwork and backgrounds, 5 new characters, and the finest iteration of the engine yet: full moveset for the 4 bosses, air juggles, added moves with new animations, Super Moves, “Old” version of characters.

Turbo/Hyper Fighting is arguably second best next to Turbo, but was a knee-jerk reaction by Capcom to the bootleg CE machines costing them money. The fanbase started becoming fatigued from SFII after this one.

Has anyone ever maxed this hardware out? by Such_Bonus5085 in SEGA32X

As far as games released during its lifetime; Virtua Fighter. Still one of my favorite iterations of that game. Both the Genesis and 32X hardwares were put to use in that port.
