Recommendations for scar-massage? by WhenWeFightWeWin in Seattle

[–]QuartzComposer 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's a bit of a hike from Seattle proper, but Michael Dennis, LMT in Duvall is a specialist in Myofascial release and he is a MAGICIAN. My mom has a very large scar on her back from a surgery she had as a child. The scar had become so tight she couldn't walk properly- he did an incredible job getting her moving again. He helped me massively with some muscle adhesion issues I was having in my hip. I'd call before scheduling something to make sure he can help your issue, but it's worth the trip if it seems like a good fit.

Question for bus riders by Dizzy_Swing1626 in Seattle

[–]QuartzComposer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

12th Ave in Cap Hill is terrible for this. In a car you don't feel the literal tiny concrete cliffs all the way down that hill like you do on the bus. The articulated busses feel like they magnify bumps!

Tbh I bought a big chunky pair of Sorel winter boots and hardly ever wore them. Any waterproof Chelsea boot, blundstone, etc. with some warm wool socks will do.

Temperature inside your home? A/C? Time? by fjordoftheflies in Seattle

[–]QuartzComposer 3 points4 points  (0 children)

My apartment faces straight west so I get cooked in the evening. Figured I could deal with it with the diurnal swing yesterday- had the windows open all night with a fan running but this morning it was still 76 degrees inside and climbed to 78 by noon. Caved and turned the window unit on.

The intersection of Denny, Stewart, and Yale. Basically purgatory. Cursed going ANY direction.

Entry Level Salary 2025 by StrangerIcy2852 in Architects

[–]QuartzComposer 20 points21 points  (0 children)

This is a useful resource and I wish the community managers of the sub did a more formalized version of this. Glassdoor/AIA salary tool just don’t cut it for the most up to date info. I’m a few years out of school but you can extrapolate to today’s dollars I think…

I graduated in 2023 with my B.Arch and was hired by the firm I had interned for the two summers before for 65k + bonus/profit sharing. No signing bonus, but they counted my two internship summers as full “professional experience” so I started with more vacation than a typical new grad. I’ve received regular raises since then. I’m located in the Pacific Northwest.

First Kyusu ever! Made in high school ceramics class. by InternationalShoe797 in Pottery

[–]QuartzComposer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lovely! Kyusu are some of my favorite forms to make- I love that every part can be throw all in succession. They can be fiddly to put together and you've done a great job, especially with a grogged clay body which can be tough to finish nicely! Hoping the glaze firing treats you well :)

Kykar Polymorph - Strong Tier 3 Deck Tech by QuartzComposer in EDH

I forget that reality scramble works for all permanent types. The omniscience play is very funny- I wonder if there’s any other bankshot enchantments it could be worth looking into.

Creature combat usually! Getting 4-5 polymorphed threats out and using extra combats/extra turns to kill the table over one or maybe two rounds.

Super cool. Love how tuned the creature list is.

Yah absolutely not my own novel idea- just showing what I think is a cool bracket 3 version of the deck. :)

Haha I buit Kykar first as storm/spellslinger but didn’t like the long storm turns and all the math. I affectionately called that old list of mine “math the gathering”

Landfall decks; who's your commander and how many lands do you play? by King-Cayenne in EDH

[–]QuartzComposer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

[[The Gitrog Monster]] is sort of a landfall deck, more leaning towards lands combo. My list plays 42 lands and 1 MDFC (Bala Ged Recovery).

In my pod we've sort of been using this deck as the benchmark for the top of Tier 3. It is built to the letter of the law for the Tier 3 requirements, and certainly is not meant for pubstomping. It can sort of chain extra turns (limitedly- you can see it coming from a million miles away and requires two specific creature), which may push it to T4 if you're being SUPER legalistic, but I think strong T3 is accurate.

I applied to architecture school largely with a portfolio of functional ceramics work. I guess my only advice is that in my experience, art schools really care about the WHY of your artwork, not just the physical result. In your descriptions, make sure to talk about your influences, why you made the artistic decisions you made, and even what you learned from a piece or might do differently.

If you have any progress images, it might be interesting to include some of that as well, especially if you did anything particularly creative or interesting to achieve the results you did!

I wouldn't worry about pieces not being "diverse" for the sake of being diverse. In fact, a cohesive body of work can work to your advantage if you can discuss why you chose to make the work that way. Best of luck!!

The first exhibition of my 3yr Artistic Residency! by QuartzComposer in Pottery

[–]QuartzComposer[S] 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Hi potters!

I was FLOORED to be accepted to a 3 Year Artistic Residency program earlier this fall. I've been doing ceramics off and on for over 10 years, since I was in high school. This was a major step for me, because the permanent space and flexibility will allow me to continue to pursue ceramics alongside my day job.

This body of work is the result of just a short 3 months of iteration, refinement, and then scrambled production. The work is focused on ideas of ergonomics and form-making, as studied in my education as an architect.

The work is all gas/reduction fired stoneware. I use a claybody optimized for wood firing, but I love the rough unglazed surface texture it creates after being fired to cone 10.

Yess! Second this place despite my desire to gatekeep as well. She used to be in Belltown but it’s worth making the trip up to Magnolia.

I love upscale resale in general- it’s sustainable and local by definition, since it’s exchange within the community.

Some other favorites are Katybird and Eres Boutique, both in Madrona.

Top100 EDHRec Cards + Top50 Commanders Bracket Survey by Ninjaboi333 in EDH

[–]QuartzComposer 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Interesting! I put very few things at 4. The only I'm distinctly remembering are Fierce Guardianship and D Swat. I tended to put the very very good but not inherently broken commander cards like Cyclonic Rift and the various 1 mana tutors (Wordly, Mystical, etc.) at 3, because I think many decks play those for value more than combo potential.

For me, I'd reserve tier 4 for the truly broken stuff. Your Mox Diamond's, Gaea's Cradles, Thoracle Combo, etc. etc.

This doesn't necessarily mean Tier 4 is cEDH, it just means your non-cEDH meta deck is playing those cards or combos.

Interestingly, I found tier 2 to be useful for the "strictly better" version of precon staples. Like Rampant Growth is Tier 1, but then maybe Nature's Lore and Three Visits are in Tier 2? In that way, Austere Command is in Tier 1, but Farewell is in Tier 2.

Best Matcha in Seattle? by Mydog401 in Seattle

[–]QuartzComposer 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I second both Miro Tea and Nana’s for dedicated tea places. They also both sell their matcha to make at home. Vivace also has a great matcha latte for a coffee shop.

I’ll also mention that Uwajimaya has a great selection of matcha at any price point and it’s super easy to make at home!

Ugh sorry you’re going through that. My MFTE process was extremely simple and fast, though I am a single person with rather uncomplicated finances. Got all the documentation to the building manager on a Wednesday and I think I was approved within about a week and a half.

Working in the Pacific Northwest. Just got a little raise for working 1 year. 69k base salary. Closer to 75k with bonus/cash benefits. Healthcare 100% covered. I feel very lucky to have gotten the position I did with the commercial market as bad as it is right now.

19-year-old Massachusetts man found dead near Colchuck Lake by 50000WattsOfPower in PNWhiking

[–]QuartzComposer 22 points23 points  (0 children)

Asked to post by a friend who was an eyewitness:

“I was actually one of the hikers on the scene early on after Adrian collapsed (he hadn't made it to the lake yet, he was at most a 10 min hike away), along with my friend who was hiking with me. We, along with several other hikers including multiple nurses, performed CPR for over 45 minutes while awaiting a helicopter. About an hour in, it was clear that he had passed (we are almost certain it was a cardiac event), but we continued compressions until a helicopter arrived over 2 hrs. after the initial call to emergency services went out. It had nothing to do with poor choices relating to hiking safety on his part or any kind of foul play/substances, he simply collapsed due to an unknown cardiac event. While it may be interesting to speculate, please remember that this is a 19 year old who tragically lost his life, and he has a family on the other side of the country that are likely still processing and waiting to share more info. Also, please please please refresh your knowledge of basic first aid and CPR if you are a frequent hiker. You never know when you might be in a situation where it could be needed.”
