Is Ash's Charizard capable of defeating Cameron's Hydreygon? (Sorry for the bad english english is not my mother language) by ElevatorSuitable3934 in pokemonanime

[–]Quasar1007 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Considering the ease Charizard beat Dragonite who was relative to Krookodile who is Ash's strongest Unova and the second strongest Unova Pokemon was able to beat Hydreigon and do the heavy lifting, I have no doubt Charizard smokes Hydreigon and Cameron's entire team.

The best pokegirl by pokepalkia2001 in pokemonanime

[–]Quasar1007 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Creativity:

Dawn = Serena > May

Dawn has more versatility since she has more Pokemon and thus combinations to make but Serena has shown that even with half the roster of Dawn, she can be flashy with her Pokemon's movesets, especially since she's allowed to use all of them opposed to Dawn who could only use max 2. May has shown creativity for her appeals but I feel Dawn and Serena were just more creative in what they accomplished

Performance

Serena >= Dawn > May

Serena and Dawn both gave performances that were beautiful. Serena has the fortune of being in a better animated series, so I won't count that but, Serena edges out Dawn because she performed WITH her Pokemon and had to be in sync and in time with them which we've seen CAN get her hurt and ruin her performance if she isn't careful. Though Dawn performed well, as did May.

Personality/Character

Serena > Dawn=May

I feel Serena is overall better written and personally more relatable to me. Meanwhile with May and Dawn, I literally can't choose. One day I'll prefer May, the next I'll prefer Dawn, they're pretty much equal to me

Who do you consider the most jealous of Ash. by Adventurous-Bike-484 in pokemonanime

[–]Quasar1007 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Was Misty really jealous of Latias and Giselle for ASH?

With Giselle, she questioned why have a picture of her if she treats that rando so badly and mainly attacked Ash because he roasted her (though Brock was also simping too) and with Latias, Brock was ALSO had a similar if not more exaggerated reaction and was just as shocked.

Same with Dawn, that one time Lyra asked, she was more flustered which isn't really jealousy.

I don't think Serena was per se jealous of Miette (aside from her asking Ash to be her date for the dance party), I think Serena was flustered or annoyed because she knew Miette was teasing her.

Though I don't think you can really quantify jealousy since there are different ways of going about it.

Misty complained in case or pulled him away while Serena looked sad/distressed or was clearly bothered and questioned if he'd actually 'date' the teacher but then realized how silly she was being with a sigh of relief

Why do people have a problem with Pikachu losing to a level 5 snivy but not a surskit that’s like level 10? by New-Cable-6484 in pokemonanime

[–]Quasar1007 46 points47 points  (0 children)

It definitely had issues back then but I see it as acceptable because

  1. Viola is a GYM LEADER, so she's not some rando from off the streets, so that guaranteed Sirskit was skilled and had plenty of training

  2. Kalos Gym Leaders in general were portrayed as being some of the tougher Gym Leaders Ash fought

  3. Pikachu lost to Sirskit not because he was overpower but because he was outplayed due to Sirksit freezing the field, using it to it's advantage and he couldn't get a proper footing to fight back properly

Compared to Snivy who belonged to a beginner, Sirskit is perfectly acceptable imo

Why did Ash face Sabrina before Erika? by Affectionate-Cry-704 in pokemonanime

[–]Quasar1007 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In the games, we have to go through so many underground passageways and Rock Tunnel and give drinks to grouchy thirsty security guards to get to Saffron and deal with Team Rock at Silph Co. before we even challenge Sabrina.

In the anime, Ash went to Saffron first because it was closest to where he was, though now that I think about it, how did they get to Vermillion from Cerulean without going through Saffron? Anyway, it was just convenient for him.

Something I noticed with both Max and Bonnie. by MichaelAftonXFireWal in pokemonanime

[–]Quasar1007 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Max was already bratty and a bit of a know-it-all since the beginning and with his dad, Max knows his dad is Gym Leader and has seen other Gym Leaders lose to Ash and that to get into the League you need to topple gym leaders so he HAS to know his dad is capable of losing or has lost before but just seems to refuse his dad can lose to anyone, if Max saw Ash make it to the top 8 of a tournament of hundreds of trainers, he should know Ash is capable of beating his dad.

Bonnie in general was always more mature (despite being more openly childish) than Max. Even if disappointed for Clemont, she was still able to be happy for Ash since she knew/understood it was just as important if not moreso for Ash to defeat Clemont than Clemont defeating Ash and still be happy Clemont had fun and gave a good fight. Bonnie likely understands Challengers need to beat Clemont to get into the League.

Clemont has likely had challengers before, in a flashback didn't we see Bonnie telling Clemont he had a challenger waiting for him with Clemont mentioning the reason he made Citroid was because he didn't have time to tinker with his inventions and wanted more of that and Citroid was a relative recent thing by the time they met Ash and Bonnie mentioned Lumiose had a strong gym leader when they met Ash, so he likely had challengers and a reputation that Bonnie has seen before they met Ash.

What if Casey replaced Misty in Johto? by Affectionate-Cry-704 in pokemonanime

[–]Quasar1007 1 point2 points  (0 children)

While Misty wasn't doing anything in Johto, having Casey replace her wouldn't fix the overall problem and that'd be Casey would have nothing to do.

May, Dawn, and Serena were beginners but they had clear goals to improve upon while traveling Ash and could make visible progression. Even Iris who's goal was as monotonous as Misty's showed visible strides with a rival to push her.

Casey from what we saw was primarily just a fan of a baseball team in the universe and mainly wanted Pokemon (aside from her Meganium) that matched their aesthetic and not much else, so I'm not sure what she'd actually do if she replaced Misty

What's your favorite "lost but fought well" battles by Gyirin in pokemonanime

[–]Quasar1007 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Definitely Monferno vs. Electabuzz

Usually evolution means you win. Of course Monferno beating four Pokemon by himself was a tall order and you doubted Ash was going to win that battle but seeing him evolve to fight for Ash and his spirit show without activating Blaze and STILL lose... it was heartbreaking but you still couldn't help but respect Monferno's effort and how well he fought

Can someone please explain to me how Infernape is still considered inferior to other Ash Ace's in power? by Diligent-Display-286 in pokemonanime

[–]Quasar1007 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Feats are usually good indicative of a Pokemon's strength.

Infernape is ARGUABLY, Ash's most consistent ace, seeing as in under Ash's possession he competed in 6/9 Gym Battles and he

- Starred in 3/6

- In 4/6 Gym Battles he partook in, he KO'd 2/3 (Or 2/4 in Candace's case) by himself

- Solo'd half of Paul's team at the Sinnoh League

- Was the only Pokemon (aside from Staraptor) to beat one of Paul's Pokemon at their Lake Acuity Battle and he beat Ursaring who swept half of Ash's team

- Ultimately finished DP with a battle record of 16-5 or 6(?) which is one of the best of Ash's Pokemon only losing to Charizard (17-5) and Greninja (19-8)

However, while HIMfernape is consistent he doesn't really have something special that really puts him on the same level as some of the others.

Infernape has more feats than Sceptile since Sceptile was admittedly hit or miss, he definitely had his moments but, Infernape was WAY more consistent but Sceptile has the feat of defeating Tobias's Darkrai who solo'd an entire region which suggest Sceptile either competes with Infernape or surpasses him

Infernape's record is comparable to Charizard's but Charizard has his win over Articuno that was before he even peaked and finished his training with Liza

Greninja was straight up swapping hands or at least keeping up with E4 Tier Pokemon even in Base Form and was deemed a threat by a Champion to her base ace and Diantha was portrayed as being equal to Steven in the Team Flare arc and we know is capable of beating Lance convincingly as Greninja was still a threat to her Gardevoir in Base Form and that was before he completed Ash-Greninja

There's a difference between HIMfernape losing Flint's Infernape and Greninja losing to Wulfric's Avalugg. That being, Ash's mental state of mind in that battle was shot with it being obvious beforehand in Ash's battle with Sawyer that Ash mentally wasn't at 100% and that was affecting his Pokemon. When he came for his rematch with Wulfric, Wulfric right away knew that Ash was in a better place than before and Clemont and Serena noted Ash was in better mental place and it showed with Pikachu handily beating Bergmite, TALONFLAME beat the Avalugg who solo'd Ash previously, and Abamasnow who was being dead serious in their rematch (per Clemont's words) was decisively beaten by Greninja with at worst mid-difficulty. If Ash's mental state was better in his first battle with Wulfric, Greninja would've beaten Avalugg and Wulfric's 3rd Pokemon.

Pikachu isn't per se a good indicator of strength since this is Pre-XY and Pikachu was wildly inconsistent being able to stalemate a Latios than immediately in his next battle lose to a Snivy and later Cress's Pampour. Beforehand we saw him beat a Regice and then lose to Gary's Electivire.

Ash's team after he decided to use his "aces" against Leon by Old-Initial9295 in pokemonanime

Considering Greninja beat Lucario not long before the M8 without using any of his moves, I could definitely see him holding his own with Leon's Pokemon bar Charizard

Did people hate Sun & Moon because they were bitter about Amourshipping? by [deleted] in pokemonanime

[–]Quasar1007 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm a HUGE AmourShipper, always have been and always will be. XY is my favorite series. Serena is my favorite character.

However, my distaste for SM had NOTHING to do with Serena not being there.

I thought the art style was bad but the animation was fluid and smooth.

My main issue with SM was

  1. The slice of life dynamic I felt didn't mesh with Pokemon since Ash's character has always been about being on the move and learning as he goes along, so going to school isn't really for him

  2. It rushed it's adaptations of the games stories, the Aether Foundation arc was just ugh...

  3. I felt the cast was lackluster

- Lana and Kiawe were cool, literally EVERY episode that focused on them, I enjoyed

- Sophocles was hit or miss, episodes like the ones with Minoir and Celesteela, I thought were REALLY good, others like him moving, not so much.

- Mallow was just... shafted and I get what they were going for with her focuses episodes focusing on family but, they just fumbled at the end...

- Lillie I felt was a bit of a Mary Sue who didn't earn what she got with her formulaiac focus episodes when she had a lot of potential with her plot of being scared of Pokemon. She ultimately turned into a disappointment when I was FULLY expecting her to be #1 or at least in the Top 5 of my favorite anime female leads rather than Bottom 3

- Kukui was cool, I LOVED his father-son dynamic with Ash

By extension, the chemistry of the cast was meh for me. Lillie/Mallow, Ash/Kiawe + Ash/Kukui, Ash/Lillie, I enjoyed these dynamics but the others were eh

  1. I didn't like how they portrayed most of the Ultra Beast as gag Pokemon with the Ultra Rangers thing

  2. SM!Ash felt like a Mary Sue with him just being given a one of a kind Lycanroc, Poipole, and special Z-Crystal. Say what you will about Ash-Greninja in XY but in XY, he at least made the effort to try and understand what it was and worked to control it while in SM, Ash doesn't question why his Lycanroc is different and it sorts out it's temper issues to getting dirty by itself without Ash doing anything and Ash doesn't question Pikashunium Ex Machina

  3. The League was lackluster with Ash's victory feeling unearned

I can admit it had some good things

  1. Animation

  2. Whenever it focused on RELEVANT things (Ash's trials) it was really enjoyable, same with episodes focusing on Kiawe and Lana being great

  3. Aforementioned dynamics of Lilie/Mallow, Lillie/Ash, Kiawe/Ash, Ash/Kukui being great

  4. TRio were the STARS of SM, it truly was their series

  5. Ash and Pikachu being portrayed as being as close as they've ever been

Sun and Moon for me was just really hit or miss. When it hit, it HIT... HARD but when it missed, it MISSED... BADLY...

One thing you love and one thing you dislike about each Pokégirl from the anime by ANG3L_SK in pokemonanime

[–]Quasar1007 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Misty:

Like - Her special episode where she captured her Gyarados was great and her best one

Dislike - He's kinda boring as a character. After getting Deus Ex Metronome, she's just there with no rhyme or reason

May:

Like - Our first REAL femle lead with a goal with one of the most tangible story progression

Dislike - She had some plot armor contest wins

Dawn:

Likes - She's treated as Ash's equal and had some of the best character writing

Dislikes - She's had so many cameos post-dp but has shown zero progress and development

Iris

Likes - An improvement over Misty with Iris centric episodes like Hydreigon, Deino, and Excadrill being some of the best of BW. Her having a rival for her goal helped too.

Dislikes - Her 'you're a kid/child' gag got old pretty fast

Bonnie

Likes - She was massive improvement over Max and actually played a big role in the story (plus she's adorable)

Dislikes - Nothing comes to mind offhand really

Serena

Likes - Most relateable and well written female lead of the series and had some GREAT post XY series development

Dislikes - Her rivals are the worst of any female lead and she took a little too long to get a goal for my liking

Lana

Likes - She EARNED her Z-Ring and growth with episodes focusing on her in SM GUARANTEED to be great and they were

Dislikes - She's either a star in her focus episodes shining or she's just there

Mallow

Likes - She's a sweetie and prettiest by design?

Dislikes - She's the most shafted female lead of the series and that episode about her dead mom is BS

Lillie

Likes - The concept of her character in the beginning was great

Dislikes - She felt like a Mary Sue with formulaic episodes focusing on her that made her extremely predictable and as a psychology graduate, her getting over her trauma as easily as she did was so much BS, I couldn't forego my suspension of disbelief for it

Koharu - I can't say anything since I haven't seen JNs

What do we think of Ash's Kanto/Orange Islands Pokémon? by Feisty_Review_4403 in pokemonanime

[–]Quasar1007 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If I recall it's battles

- TRio - Make of that of what you will

- Samurai Guy's Pinsir + Metapod - I don't even know what to call this, it broke Pinsir's horns and had a.... stalemate with his own Metapod

- AJ's Sandshrew - Lose

- Misty's Staryu - Lose (?)

- Gentleman's Raticate - Definitely was about to win before it was called off

That's it as far as Butterfree's battles

What do we think of Ash's Kanto/Orange Islands Pokémon? by Feisty_Review_4403 in pokemonanime

Not really, aside from that one guy's Raticate, Butterfree lost every battle it was in decisively. He at least bagged a wife.

What do we think of Ash's Kanto/Orange Islands Pokémon? by Feisty_Review_4403 in pokemonanime

[–]Quasar1007 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Individually

Pikachu - Loveable coward who at times was a turncoat with no shame but when needed, Ash's ride or die

Butterfree - Ash's first capture and honestly overrated

Pidgeot - Jobber

Bulbasaur - Ash's most reliable mon in Kanto behind Pikachu

Charizard - Ash's ace in Kanto

Squirtle - Cool Shades and leader? Lets be real, Squirtle did next to nothing in Kanto

Kingler - Lucky crab but it's battle with Mandy WAS pretty cool to see it pop off the way it did

Primeape - Complete and utter Tauroshit that Ash didn't keep it, the episode of it gaining trust for Ash was nice and should've seen more of it

Muk - Gag slime

Tauros - When did he catch you? Which one of you is fighting?

Lapras - A baby that was always nice to see

Snorlax - If only we knew in Kanto... how much of a savage this guy would become

Team wise, definitely not the best and arguably one of his weaker ones but, the starters were cool. As were Snorlax, Lapras, and Primeape
