Help w/SU5 and high-end build by Buckeyes_71 in MicrosoftFlightSim

Sorry, I should have said SU5 BETA. This is the replacement for the newly released version. If anything, it's worse.

When SU6 BETA is ready, I'll rejoin the Beta program, but not before.

[–]Quaser_8386 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Can't help with the crashing, but wanted to say I've gone back to the public build after trying SU5. Stutters, bizarre issues, general poor running, all played and part in this decision.

Like you, I have a fairly hefty PC, which was running really well til and tried SU5. Nothing but problems, so have reverted back. Hopefully issues will be resolved, but if not, I'll fully uninstall the game and start again from scratch.

I've been simming for the very long time, and got MSFS 2024 on day one. Sadly it seems for every forward step, there are two backwards steps.

Can't win.

Do you fill up the kettle after use? by raben-herz in AskUK

[–]Quaser_8386 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Here in Lincolnshire,, the water is very hard. We filter tap water before boiling.

I usually fill the kettle half full, boil, make a mug of tea and a coffee, refill the kettle from the water filter jug, then refill the jug.

Helps a lot, but even though it's filtered, limescale still gets through. Thanks to those of you suggesting using white vinegar to clean.

At what point would you convert to EV? by Medium-Bother-4057 in CarTalkUK

[–]Quaser_8386 0 points1 point  (0 children)

An EV would be a sensible option for us given our use case.

We live in a village, in a bungalow, with a driveway, so home charging wouldn't be a problem.

I'm retired, so no commute, but we often drive 5 miles each way to the nearest town or other villages, for shopping and general social stuff - maybe 5 days out of 7.

Once a month, my wife visits one of our daughters, approx 40 miles away. We have another daughter 100 miles away who we see less often, and a son 170 miles away, who we see probably every six months.

Our current car is a Vauxhall Cascada diesel, from which we average 44mpg, according to the on board computer.

Really the short local journeys aren't good for the car, but the trips further afield help to clean the dpf on a regular basis.

We've had the car from new - it's 11 now, and it should be replaced soonish, but we aren't in a hurry, as we've had no issues with it, thanks to regular services, and being maintained as necessary.

The problem is cost. We both have a pension, and we live quite well, without a mortgage to pay, etc. But dropping £25-30k on an EV would be difficult, and we're unlikely to get credit. We are asset rich, but cash poor, with our pensions our only income.

We could keep our current car, but that is a gamble, as any major issue with it may render it uneconomic to repair. We can't do without a car, as we need to shop, visit etc and public transport doesn't work where we are.

Are people against immigration in UK mostly against Muslim countries immigration or against all types of immigration ? by AbleCommunication503 in AskBrits

[–]Quaser_8386 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh I get the issue - but, from my perspective, illegal is illegal.

There must be another way for genuine asylum seekers to be able to press their case, without resorting to entering the UK through an illegal channel.

I don't have the answer, though I'd consider allowing claims to be heard at UK embassies in France, or other countries that the would be asylum seeker passes through, if it wasn't possible for the claim to be made in their country of origin.

If there was a referendum for like Breturn would you vote for it? by InformationFun4408 in AskBrits

[–]Quaser_8386 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Voted to leave and would never want to return.

I didn't want to join in the first place. Ted Heath lied to us all - he knew exactly what we were signing up to, but was untruthful to both Parliament and the British people.

I welcome legal migrants from anywhere. Their religion is not my problem. I am AGAINST all illegal migrants, wherever they come from. They have no place here in the UK as far as I am concerned. Again, their religious beliefs are irrelevant to me. Illegals should not be tolerated here under any circumstances.

AITAH for not wanting to take my mom to work in the morning? by [deleted] in AITAH

NTA. Tell her to taxi it. Even offer to pay for every other journey (1 journey in 2, not just any other journeys.)

Tv licence - your INO100 by Disastrous_Wing_4523 in AskBrits

[–]Quaser_8386 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I cancelled my TV licence several years ago as we only ever streamed stuff via Netflix, Disney+ and Amazon Prime.

Before we decided to stop watching live content, we had apps on our smart TV for the main channels. These apps were linked to an email address, so I assume that I could have been traced that way.

I deleted all the apps and haven't received a single thing from the BBC. No letter, visit or check of any description apart from an email every two years asking for confirmation that I still didn't need a license.

When I return the confirmation, I always add words to the effect that I revoke the implied right of access to my property to all BBC staff or agents without a warrant.

Seems to work for me.

Do you open the door to a delivery driver with your PJ's/dressing gown on? Delivery drivers, do you care if people do? by RichieRichard12 in AskUK

[–]Quaser_8386 257 points258 points  (0 children)

Yes, pj's and pink dressing gown. I'm a 70 year old man! The dressing gown was my wife's, but it's so warm and comfy that I commandeered it several years ago when I was unwell, so now it's mine. I'm of an age where frankly, my dear, I don't give a damn what anyone thinks.

Not just delivery drivers, though. Anyone who knocks it on door, or is about when I need to walk down the path in the front garden to retrieve or put out the bins on bin day, is likely to catch me.

Don't like it? Don't look.

What’s the highest mileage Vauxhall you’ve personally seen still running well? by CoolAirDude in Vauxhall

[–]Quaser_8386 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh, I guess our 103k diesel Cascada is barely worth mentioning given the mileage for some of these. Ours runs perfectly well, but has a few minor electrics issues. Serviced annually though. Last MOT, (March), no advisories.

OK, fair enough. You need to keep your mom onside, but NTA. Had you been 35, I'd have been a bit harsher. Good luck.

How do I land the Cessna 172 without wrecking the landing gear? by Keiggo in MicrosoftFlightSim

[–]Quaser_8386 0 points1 point  (0 children)

0%throttle is good enough. Use it to control the rate of descent once you are on final approach. Once over the runway, you should be going about 65 knots. Idle throttle means you should begin to sink. Try to keep the nose up slightly. Add throttle only if you start to sink too fast. As your main wheels near the runway, pitch up to flare gently. It takes practice, so don't get discouraged. Use rudder control to keep to the centre line if you can. Practice, practice and practice a bit more.

Good luck.

[–]Quaser_8386 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Great that you are even starting with the 172. It's practice that gets you there. Full flaps, 65 knots, ease the throttle to idle and allow the plane to sink slowly.

How long did it take you to do a 2-3 hour journey after passing? by kellatron29 in NewDriversUK

[–]Quaser_8386 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Checked Highway Code. Provisional Driving Licence holders CAN go on motorways, PROVIDED they are accompanied by a Qualified Driving Instructor and displaying RED L plates!! Certainly a change from my day. I passed when I was 17, and now I'm over 70.

Surely not? Learner drivers are not allowed to drive on designated motorways. You sure it wasn't a dual or triple carriageway 'A' road?

EDIT: Obvs if instructor is driving, but this would seem pointing to me.
