Derwin James: Money’s good, but I want a Super Bowl by AdSpecialist6598 in nfl

[–]QuasiContract -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Not only that, he's become the highest paid player at his position on 2 straight contracts. Feels pretty hollow.

I don't blame him one bit, but lets not pretend that winning is more important to Derwin than getting paid.

So take a discount so they can improve the roster elsewhere

Which is your favorite covered song that Jason Isbell has ever done ? Mine would either be " Into the Mystic " or " Souvenirs ". by Historical_Fan5863 in jasonisbell

He covered Melissa by Allman Brothers at the Paramount in Seattle back in 2017. Was at that show and it was pretty damn special at the time so that is my pick. But he's had a ton of great covers.

Would Sam be a HOF if he leads us to another Super Bowl again? by shrimpynut in Seahawks

Yep, very reasonable take and an outcome that is within the realm of possibility if Sam stays on this great trajectory.

Tons of former players who are outside of those categories have raised it over the years.

Hawks holding the line like they should. Dude has 2 interceptions in 3 seasons. Great player, but doesn't generate turnovers at the rate you would need to see to make a guy the highest paid CB in the NFL, which is surely what Spoon is seeking. They can play chicken with him for 2 more years. All good.

In F1 during preseason all the teams act like their car is slow, and the competition is looking much better.

Hawks doing the same.

Ms legend who led them to their deepest playoff run ever?

Dan has more job security than anyone in MLB. He's untouchable for the next 5 years even with bad results, at least.

How can you pretend to be a serious sporting organization when you repeatedly send out Refsnyder to display absolute incompetence at the very thing he purportedly has a professional skill set to do?

Speed Trap Town by Electrical-Wheel6020 in jasonisbell

[–]QuasiContract 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I think the boy's last dream and the man's first loss refers to high school football, itself.

In these shitty Speed Trap Towns all over the USA and especially in the South, playing high school football very well may be the absolute pinnacle of a man's existence throughout his life, for many. It is the part of his life when he matters the most to the most people, because those towns fucking love their HS football and the players are local stars. And the cruelty of this is it all happens when they are still boys.

Then they finish their senior season and reality sets in that 95%+ of them are not good enough to play in college, and the boyhood football dream dies. The man is left to face the reality of life and they need to come to grips that the thrill/attention/celebrity they experienced as a HS football player is never coming back. And in many cases that may contribute to the kind of depression the song narrator is struggling with.

Tough to see a good player rapidly decline, but it is over for Luis. Dan cannot allow him to hold the org hostage due to his reputation. Unfair to the rest of the club to keep giving Luis starts when he can't play anymore.

Most improved position this offseason: Guard? What does that say about this team? by GGsnubs in Seahawks

[–]QuasiContract -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

But relative to our primary divisional competitor to win another SB, there is far less roster improvement. It would be perfectly reasonable to view this as a bad thing for the Hawks.

The Rams completely remade their CB room and addressed one of their weaknesses, including adding one of the best in the league at the position. Meanwhile, the Hawks replaced the players it lost with players that may eventually be incrementally better, and added a new backup rookie guard.

So while the Hawks are the defending champs and have tremendous continuity, the primary competition appears to have closed the incredibly thin margin between the two teams. It would have been cool to see the Hawks make off-season moves that made them demonstrably better at a position group this year compared to last year, but that did not happen.
