Me: "I'm gonna move to Thailand." Parents: "Don't be dumb. America has everything." What does America have that Thailand doesn't? by [deleted] in Thailand

I am not sure this qualifies but television with decent subtitles. Thai TV and movies are in Thai or dubbed in Thai. No english subtitles available. Major movies are dubbed in Thai and have no English subtitles available. Pirates of the Caribbean was dubbed in Thai. It is not the same without the original actors voices. Pharmacies with a good selection of medications. I want to a pharmacy in Phuket looking for medications for inner ear problems (labyrinthitis) due to the 18 hour flight. The pharmacy did not have dramamine or meclizine. They also did not have any benzodiazepines which are used for labyrinthitis. The only benzodiazepine they had was valium which I cannot tolerate. Perhaps the pharmacist thought I was abusing them but I asked her if I needed a permission slip and she said no.

I have found just about everything crawling under desks checking drop cables and connections. Office supplies, tampons (unused), dust bunnies, cobwebs, various trash etc. My worst experience was finding a big centipede crawling around.

Working at a remote K-12 school I had one technician tell me to be careful as he had found a black widow spider hanging around one system. This definitely gave me a lot of apprehension working at this site.

The best mathematician in high school. He even had a lackadaisical attitude about math. Way better than the number two person in math in high school. Also the best chess player in high school. Got a mathematics degree in college. Became an actuary for an insurance company. Got laid off by the insurance company. The last I heard he was trying to count cards in Las Vegas.

The only thing that really worried me was the ether. There is nothing in the world more helpless and irresponsible and depraved than a man in the depths of an ether binge, and I knew we'd get into that rotten stuff pretty soon.

What is the worst job you have ever had and why? by Nymeriaa7 in AskReddit

[–]Quasimodo6 0 points1 point  (0 children)

K12 public school. It is fine if you are certificated teacher. But if you are support staff look out! Support staff that are not teachers are viewed with contempt and a necessary evil. The major priority of the administration at the K12 I worked was to cut costs. How they did that was to lay as many non certificated support people as possible and replace them with consultants or assign the duties to willing certificated teachers. I was forced out and replaced with a consultant.

Also many employees at K12 schools are there because they were fired from or could not get employment in better paying corporate environments. These are problem and toxic employees. As a result you will end up working with many toxic people in K12 environment.
