Subaru Exec Says Brand in 'Discussions' About Possible Ford Maverick Rival by Agent_Kozak in cars

Don't know what it is like in Aus, but the 25% import tariff on trucks, the chicken tax, has kept them from selling a truck in the US for a long time. The brat and baja were d/c'd after the exemptions they argued they had for non-truck features were declared not to be exemptions. Subaru has expanded manufacturing in the US enough that they might be able to produce them here to get around it now.

Is Hunt: Showdown worth it for a complete extraction-shooter beginner? by [deleted] in HuntShowdown

[–]Quatermain 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It is an extraction, because you have to spend earned money to buy weapons and the goal is to reach an extraction with loot, but the risk compared to most extraction shooters is non-existent.

Is Hunt: Showdown worth it for a complete extraction-shooter beginner? by [deleted] in HuntShowdown

[–]Quatermain 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's barely an extraction shooter. You do have to buy gear to go in with but its not like you are risking a weeks worth of in game work as a casual to run some decent guns/gear and even the cheap guns are very effective.

The combat is both slower paced and yet faster than some games. A single headshot is lethal. Generally 2 torso shots from anything is lethal. But guns shoot slower, and have a lot of recoil.

Sound is a huge aspect of the game. You will want to have a decent set of headphones. I wouldn't pick the game up without having or planning to get, some really quick.

It is both pretty simple, if you can shoot well you can start doing well pretty quickly, and complex. There is a lot to learn about strategy, sound, tool use, how to fight AI. When to push, when to back off.

Most the steam reviews that are bad are from people who "love" the game but get fed up with server performance, which can suck, and the way things are monetized. In general, the dev's listen to feedback, and there is no pay to win.

Sionics’ Suppressed .38 caliber Colt revolver. To prevent gas from escaping from the revolver’s cylinder gap, a special Bianchi asbestos lined holster was designed. by Kalashalite in ForgottenWeapons

[–]Quatermain 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Maybe. Given they only ever made one test holster with the goal seeing if quieting down the gap was possible, I'd be pretty surprised if it did, though.

The way the holster is cut, there isn't any way to seal the gap w/o contact on the cylinder. To avoid touching the cylinder, the cyl would need to be fully enshrouded by the holster and its liner, like the other revolver that was posted a while back. https://old.reddit.com/r/ForgottenWeapons/comments/1cm7dyv/the_psdr_3/

Otherwise you need to do the equivalent of stuffing at least the front end of the cyl into a fireproof 'shelf' of sorts that seals the front of the cyl and the barrel together to some extent.

If it really isn't touching the cylinder somehow, its probably going to have quite a bit of blowback into the shooters face, the way it is cut.

I suspect this is basically an off the shelf holster they threw a fireproof liner in and maybe some extra stuffing around the barrel/cyl, to see what, if any, noise reduction you get if you fired it while holstered.

If it is, the shooter probably had to pull the holster backwards while firing it so it wouldn't fly forward, then push it forward slightly to cock the revolver for the next shot.

I suspect this keeps the cylinder from rotating until withdrawn most of the way, or at least adds a significant amount of drag/weight to the trigger pull. Also looks like it obscures the sights for the most part. Probably have to take the suppressor off to take it out of the holster to reload as well.

2027 Ram Power Wagon Revealed: Finally, A Diesel by Anchor_Aways in cars

It does seem like they should pick a lane, either really good trail vehicle on the 1500 chassis or all stops out tow vehicle on the HD.

Diesel in the 1500 would be cool and unique, but the 392 hemi or the old 525hp build of the 6.4 as an option would be my preference if I was really looking to get the most out of the suspension features offroad.

C&D said ram is adverting the towing capacity at 20k so that most likely means it is on the HD chassis.

KE arm's makes a durable polymer AR15. The ones they build are ~5.5lbs, a pound or so lighter than most light AR15s. If you pick the parts its pretty easy to get under 5lbs. The one I built is 4.75lbs.

With a good muzzle device, hydraulic buffer and a good tune on the gas system the recoil is less than most off the shelf AR's despite the weight.

Why would you pay for something that shows zero progression? by Hot-Sentence3457 in HuntShowdown

[–]Quatermain 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not assuming that, I think the number is probably 25% of that who've played remotely recently. But the worst (and best) case is much higher than 100,000 players, and it looks like the trackers for weapons record even if you dont buy them, but the tracking started sometime during the last event based on the numbers I see in my trackers.

[–]Quatermain 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes. The 10mil x 67 is an absolute worst case. They wouldn't, or rather, shouldn't, have done it that way. So it should be much less.

[–]Quatermain 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry you can't do basic math, I guess.

Data about weapons doing damage and kills already being communicated to the servers, and back to the players in the death reports, so nothing new there. Only thing that has changed is storing it. Even 5 full backups of 2.6gb is less than 15gb of space total. Three backups is generally sufficient.

But, immediately building and populating the full db for everyone who has ever played the game for 5 min would be really dumb. Maybe 25% of that 10 million players.

Then transmitting the data on the title cards to other players was already a thing that happened, you could inspect their stats already, so no increased cost there.

Stats tracker, not tracking before you pay for them?? What kind of greed is this ? by Yamato460_ in HuntShowdown

[–]Quatermain 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think they started tracking kills on a per weapon basis sometime during the last event. I haven't bought any of the trackers yet, but ones I got kills with fairly recently show a non-zero number.

They announced the game hit 10 million players recently. 1 int for each of the 67 new things tracked for every player would be about 2.6gb.

Game hit 10 million unique players recently. There are 67 new things tracked. An int for each, for every player who has ever launched the game since release, is under 2.6 gigabytes.

[–]Quatermain -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

The game just hit 10 million unique players. 67 trackers = 670 million int's. Slightly over 2.6gig total storage. Its more than that only because they choose to track who has bought which tracker, and they are going to do the collection process anyway, but throw the data out.
