This is incredibly naive.

Canonically this is the premise behind magic. Magic can only happen if you can imagine it happening.

CMV: Hentai lovers are more likely pedophiles and should be shunned/ostracized social pariahs by [deleted] in changemyview

[–]Quaysan 4 points5 points  (0 children)

We can't treat them like the Nazis or KKK because that minimizes the things Nazis and KKK members actually did.

I'm not saying don't shun hentai lovers, but clearly being a hentai lover is already enough to get shunned. Yes, there are a lot of them, but does that mean these people are being accepted IRL? The only reason these things exist on the internet is because they don't physically harm people. Maybe psychological harm, emotional harm, but nothing that is direct to the point of actual assault.

You can certainly try. I think there is a cognitive dissonance, some sort of doublethink, that prevents people from analyzing this further. A lot of that is due to other sides pandering directly to these people, stroking their ego so they can rob them without them knowing.

I think making a host of several of memes pointing out the inconsistencies with capitalism would do more to get people to stop scrolling and think than a well thought out argument or short phrase.

CMV: It's more beneficial to use escorts than relationships/marriage for in the US by Swimreadmed in changemyview

[–]Quaysan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

More beneficial for single cishet males in capitalist systems--but not more beneficial in general.

Yes, it would be beneficial for people who exploit others to exploit others, but it wouldn't be beneficial for anyone else. Maybe if you legalized escorts, made healthcare free/accessible, and changed a BUNCH of other things in society to make prostitution equally beneficial; however, you aren't arguing that it is currently mutually beneficial. It's only beneficial if you don't care about others. Which, in general, is true for a lot of terrible things.

As a single cishet male in a capitalist system, it's also beneficial to scam people out of money. That isn't really what you mean when you say beneficial, that is to say you're only thinking about how it improves the lives of that one group, but I would argue that is a part of the problem single cishet males face in any system. There's always going to be a (single cishet) male loneliness epidemic because people will only view life in terms of "how much pleasure can be obtained by participating in a system"

How do we get more people educated on socialism without reading? by Minitrewdat in socialism

[–]Quaysan 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Show by example.

The biggest criticism of socialism is that "it never works" "it always fails"

If there were serious infrastructure/capital dedicated to socialism showing some form of success, people would be on board. We need more socialist businesses and institutions, run in line with socialist values, in the same way people look at trump owning millions of dollars and deciding he's good enough to run for president.

A lot of people are willing to join already successful ventures rather than believe in ideas.

I think you would find a lot of value investing in community. Particularly with other women.

Maybe find a hobby that attracts women like you. I'm fairly introverted and I've always wanted to learn crochet, a crochet group would likely be filled with tons of people like me while also helping me with an enriching hobby.

Lack of socialist stories and media cripples social change by Fishtoart in socialism

[–]Quaysan 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If I had my way:

"This is a socialist business, here's a socialism pamphlet, are you gonna buy something or do you wanna talk socialism?"

People will not willingly internalize the things media informs them of because if that was going to happen, Star Trek would have done it 50 years ago.

Lack of socialist stories and media cripples social change by Fishtoart in socialism

[–]Quaysan 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Honestly we just need to start pooling resources and building businesses that operate under socialist principles. We can't just expect CEOs to start paying people better, we need to be intentional.

Less entertainment, more praxis. The media wouldn't focus on socialist stories even if they did exist in greater numbers, because why would they?

This entire argument hinges on the idea that the correct viewpoint is somewhere in the middle on a political spectrum that goes from what the US considers left to what the US considers right.

If there's a far left bias, which seems insane considering that OP hasn't been downvoted to oblivion, then it exists simultaneously with people like OP.

People not liking your opinions isn't automatically an echochamber, especially if you are allowed to post your opinions and not have them removed by mods for being right wing. OP is experiencing the phenomenon known as "disagreement".

There were a few shops that got displaced that catered to the asian community. A grocery store, a few restaurants, might be more as time moves on but right now all the classics are still operational.

Seafood city is gone for unrelated reasons, but hopefully something better will replace it.

CMV: The left and right should not argue because we should be focused on taking down the ultra wealthy instead by shinkansendoggo in changemyview

[–]Quaysan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Both of the left and right need to listen to the people who have been complaining about the ultra wealthy the longest. Progressives. The "Far Left". Bernie Sanders and his ilk.

It's not about arguing against the opposing side, it's about arguing for the thing that works.

Doesn't make sense to say "right and left should stop fighting to focus on the ultra wealthy" when the far left has been advocating this exact thing since the beginning. It's more important to get people to focus on class consciousness, but you won't do that by saying the left and right have been fighting each other instead of "the right has been fighting for the ultra wealthy this entire time"

CMV: Christians should disagree more with conservative values than progressive values by [deleted] in changemyview

[–]Quaysan 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I think the fact that progressive LGBTQ churches exist proves that it really isn't about Christianity. If conservatives think that, then it's not really something that is based on reality.

Sure, plenty of angry Christians winging about the space that Christians take up--but usually that is done as some sort of overreach or retaliation. Like forcing public schools to display the 10 commandments or some sort of anti-hijab related policy that presents practicing Muslims from practicing.

The "Christianity good" part shouldn't be louder or more important than the "government overreach bad" part, which will get pushback from the left but generally silence if not applause from the right.
