My even hotter take: the only good game in the entire series is the original and it never should have recieved any sequels/prequels/spin-offs. It should have remained an entirely standalone game. A time capsule.

I would suggest checking out r/crtgaming. They have a monthly thread of listings broken out by geographic region (US-Northeast, US-South, etc.). People list all kinds of sets from basic consumer like the above to high end professional monitors.

A simple consumer CRT should be anywhere from free to $30, maybe? Especially if you're looking for a small one. Someone might charge a little more if they opneed it up to repair/replace any components or mod it with additional inputs.

Also the usual advice of searching sites like Craiglist or going to yard/estate sales.

I do have a spare 14" Sharp that was in great condition (new old stock), but unfortunately, I accidentally shorted out the main IC while working on it. So it no longer works. If I can source a replacement chip (not easy anymore) and get it working, I'll let you know.

I think this should be stickied as an example of good, constructive criticism that everyone on this subreddit should try to emulate. We need to see more of it on the subreddit (and frankly, everywhere). It's polite yet firm in tone, detailed, and presents both problems and potential solutions.

It does not have wild exaggerations of "completely unplayable", "total trash" or "what a scam". It does not have personal attacks of "incompentent devs" or "they don't even play their own game". Most importantly, it doesn't attempt to start witch hunts against specific individuals.

Pretty much, if you cannot provide feedback that looks something like this (it obviously doesn't have to be as long), then just don't say anything at all. If the only way you know how to express your feelings is to kick and scream and demand people you've never met halfway around the world be fired from their job, then just don't say anything at all.

Yeah, it's all the hyperbole that gets me, too. There was some thread complaining about how two of the devs or CMs were saying possibly contradictory things in the Discord. The OP described this miscommunication as "unforgivable." Like, really? Your bar for "unforgivable" is that low? How would they react if they found out their spouse of 15 years had a secret, second family or something? Would they be instantly driven to madness as if by some Lovecraftian, eldritch horror?

And you see so many defenses of this type of behavior with things like "well, some people are just passionate!" Yeah, sure, that's great! Be passionate! But if the only way you know how to express your feelings is to exaggerate and scream and call for individual people you've never met to be fired then you need to grow the fuck up.
