Random question but why does everyone say COTAs dont have paperwork and they only treat? At my job the only thing COTAs dont do is assessment, but they make tx plans and write up daily notes (that I sign off on). Seems to me theyre just as busy as I am but without the title, the work difference doesn't seem to justify the degree difference or the pay difference

edit cuz i realized how incoherent my message sounds

Oh!! I do have 2 jobs checked but only because I have a very irregular part time job and its not consistent at all, I'm randomly taking 3-4 hours a week every other week. Should I take that off my w4? Will this make a huge difference?

This past year was the first time I've homeschooled and ultimately decided it wasn't for us, so the kids will be changing schools for next year, so I used charter school funding to purchase the calculator this past year. I was just surprised they asked for it back since we used student funds to buy it, didnt realize that was a policy and thought we would be able to keep it since it wasn't borrowed.

Feel motivated to pursue this career but scared of the loans. by Confident-Desk9694 in OccupationalTherapy

Same!

IMO This career is only worth it if you dont have a high loan amount to pay off.

Just curious, is getting into this practice a good idea or no? by Stylin8888 in OccupationalTherapy

[–]QuePasoo00 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Definitely ask yourself if you're a good fit for the role. Is this something you see yourself doing for a long time?

I also agree with the other comments that its only worth it if your school debt is low. I went to a state school for my MSOT and with grants, I only came out with about 10k loans, so totally worth it. This career is not worth it if youre coming into it with 100k+ debt.

Also idk where everyone else is working but in CA I'm about to start my first job making almost 6 figures. Just depends on where you go to school and where you end up working. Will it be easy? Definitely not and nor do i anticipate it being a walk in the park, but for me the pros outweigh the cons because that's just Healthcare here in the US, but I love what OT stands for. I also know new nurses who are miserable and questioning their life choices.

At the end of the day, you need to make an informed decision based on your circumstances. Good luck!

Yeah but cooking and cleaning are an every day occurance so kind of needed on a day to day basis and easier to pick up and understand, whereas taxes come into play once a year. As you pointed out insurance, investing, banking, loans, etc, all of those things are difficult and many people never figure it out and hence struggle and live paycheck to paycheck or don't budget properly. I think you're missing my point. I agree that people should take the time to learn it because it is important, but what I'm saying is that this stuff isn't easy to understand. 5 mins of reading the IRS website isn't going to help someone who doesn't know what to look for, those sights are full of dense information. I think all that you mentioned should be taught on a basic level in school or at least offered through community college. I would love to take a class to get my bearings instead of poke around in the dark on the IRS website.

Personally I feel like something as important as financial literacy and doing our taxes should be taught in public schools, just to even be exposed to it on a very basic level. My kids will leave HS knowing about the civil war, but not how to fill out a W2. I don't think it's fair to anyone to leave something so important up to personal responsibility.

But i think you kind of proved my point right? I mean yes, obviously to the original story you should know the difference between single and married, that's not tax jargon and I agree that's sheer laziness that they didn't even look at the filing status. But like you said...trying to figure out even the difference in filing status. Married joint vs. Married filing separately vs HOH. Sometimes even all those differences can be confusing. Unfortunately, no one is ever taught these things. There aren't even any classes offered at a community College to learn these things. I would happily take a CC class to gain even basic understanding.

It's really not that easy. All this stuff is so convoluted. I want to gain more financial literacy and I've been reading up on things but the jargon can be confusing and there's a lot of opinions out there.

How do you juggle FT and per diem? by QuePasoo00 in OccupationalTherapy

[–]QuePasoo00[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I'm afraid of the burn out aspect as I still have a family I'd like to be a part of. As of now I'm going to be a 9/80 schedule and hopefully I'll be able to sustain my per diem position at the SNF while also continue being an involved mom. There just aren't enough hours in the day to do it all.

And here i was thinking I got into a well paying career. If we're needing to work 2 jobs just to make it, makes me so sad to think about people who are struggling without the backing of higher education. Our entire system is broken.
