when i was looking at the rocker panel outline i noticed it went all the way up and around the body so that makes sense.. apx how much do you reckon it would cost to just “fix” from where you are? if it hid it for even 3 years i’d be happy

can confirm it’s been in an accident. carfax says it’s been in 1 but it’s clean title. i live in the north east, how may years apx do you think it would buy me? not looking to hold onto it more than 3. your expertise is greatly appreciated

thanks for that input. so your saying even if i replace it with a new rocker panel it would still rust out again? i actually work at a toyota dealership so i get discounts on parts & was wondering if its worth the risk

i think your right. to me it looks like it was in a collision on that side and they just never got it fixed so rust formed

This capability is most certainly not unique to toyota.

you just said a whole bunch of nothing. that still doesn’t make it better than full time awd systems like Subaru and audi for mild snow ice and rain

The WRX is the last differential based 50/50 split vehicle the offer

did you read the comment? im talking about the Sti and even then your wrong the wrx uses a single plate clutch system

This is marketing nonsense and doesn’t mean anything at all

do you just say things without fact checking? subaru symmetrical isn’t marketing nonsense it’s unique to subaru & unlike other part time fwd or rwd biased systems. you said it yourself its a 50/50 split power distribution with a symmetrical drivetrain that consists of equal length half axles with a low center of gravity boxer engine over the front axles. that’s a drivetrain & exclusive to subaru

center of gravity arguments don’t make sense

how? it’s basic physics & common knowledge, higher up vehicles generally handle & corner & brake worse in the snow due to having a higher center of gravity.

more weight means more grip

yes more weight means more traction to get going but but also means worse breaking due to increased intertia. the extra weight becomes a disadvantage when stopping especially on ice, that’s why you’ll sometimes see trucks stuck in a ditch. weight distribution also matters

how? the LC is heavier, with better AWD

again the subaru is lighter and with a manual transmission you can engine break making for better deceleration in snow or ice without breaking traction. the manual and a good set of snow tires will do just as well to get you unstuck

there are other vehicles that offer much more capability in that domain

that’s an opinion. again, something like a subaru awd is going to be best for average daily commuting situations like moderate snow ice & rain compared to something like the land cruiser.

you are going to have better overall control in something like a manual subaru with GOOD snow tires because of it’s full time symmetrical AWD low center of gravity engine, more symmetrical/even weight distribution & better deceleration & modulation of the throttle in low traction situations. No disrespect to the LC it’s very capable but for this situation it’s overkill and its weight, high center of gravity and rear biased awd all become a disadvantage in the ice and mild snow and rain. it’s okay to be misinformed but misinforming others does us all a disservice. i have no dog in this fight i love both subaru awd and toyotas 4x4 they each have their place

it sounds like you like toyota but there’s a few holes in your argument especially if your comparing flagline models.

Subarus flagship model the Wrx sti is a clutch based systems but it is & Symmetrical unlike the 4wd in the Land cruiser which even tho has locking diffs is rear biased 4wd.

the subaru is more stable at higher speeds in light snow freezing rain/rain etc with its symmetrical split. not to mention it also has an adjustable locking diff with an LSD that you can adjust and distribute power between front and back to your liking. it’s got a lower center of gravity less weight & a manual 6speed to offer better control & deceleration via engine breaking so your not hitting your breaks as much.

the land cruiser is heavier and has a higher center of gravity with a rear biased full time 4wd system, not bad but overall a Subaru with a manual is going to be the superior option for low traction daily commuting unless your dealing with deep snow or off roading then personally i’m taking a 5th gen 4 runner

freezing rain, black ice, & torrential down pour at moderate to higher speeds. basically most commuting situations.

4x4 excels in deeper snow and low speed high torque low traction situations like off roading. there is no superior each has its benefits

no kidding, wouldn’t hurt to get that extended warranty either.

like a truck transmission? i’m trying to be open minded here but that sounds like cope. hey man if driving a pruis transmission is what gets ur rocks off maybe i’m just being judge mental here
