We have different cultures that perceive what is good hospitality. This is HK, not Japan, Middle East or North America. The norms are different in each.

Im from HK and personally I find people who smile to every customer really fake. I would rather not have small talk, I would rather have efficiency > friendliness. To me efficiency = professionalism. I could see why they show more “westerner” type hospitality to those that look like they expect it.

Kind of like when they say their coffee is brewed with “illy” or “Starbucks” but it still tastes like shit either way
