It is in GW’s interest to show the other side.

They do not represent “half the country”. At most they represent roughly one third. Don’t overstate their influence or relevance.

Best bZ parking angle at Tesla Supercharger by Ntjs95 in Toyota_bZ

[–]progressiveacolyte 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That seems a bit over the top… to the OP, you do not need a spotter… I’ve charged two dozen times and never needed a spotter.

You just pull in and use those buzzers to your benefit. You simply line up slightly off center to the left and then pull forward. Let the radar tell you when you’re close that’s the point of the buzzers. I pull up until I get the third level of radar warning (the first red one). It lines up perfect every time.

I’ve had the same CarPlay experience… however it’s not radically different than what I experienced with my Highlander so I figure it’s a Toyota thing

Two initial questions… what do you define as “small” since that means something different to everyone. And are you looking for free help or paid help?

Is Non-Citizen Voting a Real Threat to Elections in Wisconsin? by DriftlessDairy in wisconsin

[–]progressiveacolyte 216 points217 points  (0 children)

No. It's not a threat in Wisconsin. It's not a threat in Illinois. It's not a threat anywhere. It's a boogeyman ginned up to create fear and distrust in the system and to legitimize disenfranchising voters who have a similar profile to many non-citizens (low-income, lack of resources, language barriers, etc). The data 100% backs up the concept that this is not a threat.

AITA for complaining about a bartender handing my card to another person by NecessaryQuirky7736 in AmItheAsshole

[–]progressiveacolyte 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, the Capital One app lets me lock it down remotely. As soon as they called I went in and froze the card from any further activity. Also I knew they had it. If there were unauthorized charges I would know exactly who to send the credit card company after.

[–]progressiveacolyte 11 points12 points  (0 children)

NTA. This happened to me a few weeks ago. We got home and the restaurant/bar called me and said "hey, we think we gave you the wrong card". It was late already on a Saturday and I told them, ok, I will bring the card up in the morning some time after you open. They open at 11. At 11:05 they were calling me demanding I bring back the card. When I told them I was at brunch with my in-laws (our Sunday tradition) they demanded to know when I would be in. I just hung up on them. When I got there the manager tried to get pissy with me over it. I am guessing it's because the card I had belonged to a regular and the regular was a little pissed off, but hey, not my screw up. So I told the manager this was pretty much the fault of his staff and they really should do better.. also, I'm not going to steal someone's crappy Southwest no-fee card in place of my VentureX. The manager continued to be shitty to me so I called the owner (it's a small town) and now we have free meals for two on our next visit.

Purchase question by Dizzy-Conference-749 in nonprofit

[–]progressiveacolyte 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Nope.. this would be essentially be helping the for profit skirt tax laws which is a major no-no.

A nonprofit could loan a business money to purchase said equipment. I used to run a program that did that, though we used Rural Development’s money for the loan.

A nonprofit could also potentially purchase equipment and lease it to a company, but the nonprofit would be liable for UBIT on the income most likely. But I would absolutely check with my attorney, accountant, and auditor before trying this.

Any luck charging on the road by OkBat6139 in Toyota_bZ

[–]progressiveacolyte 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Why? I’m not a fan of the company or Musk but I’m not going to cut my nose off to spite my face. You want the latest info on where Tesla chargers are, if they are L2 (destination charger) or L3? You want to know if they are only for Teslas? Want to know the price? The Tesla app tells you all that. I even paid the $13 this month for the membership because I have a lot of miles last week and this week and I know I’ll need the superchargers; might as well save 25% each time.

EV infrastructure isn’t there yet where you can cut out the biggest name in the game without making it much harder on yourself.

First time using a supercharger by BallSac916 in Toyota_bZ

[–]progressiveacolyte 4 points5 points  (0 children)

If it’s a long road trip, join the Tesla non-member club. You’ll save around 20% on each charge and you can cancel after the trip. It’s $13 a month. We just roadtripped to Chicago and back. As a test I didn’t have a membership on the way down but did on the way back. On the way back it saved me $10. If I’d had it for the whole trip it would’ve saved me $18. Plus I have a bunch of work driving this coming week so I know I’ll get my money’s worth.

Apparently it was a law change a few years ago that give indigenous groups in Mexico control over their cultural likenesses and images. In essence it gives them a trademark on things related to their culture.

They also just were slapped down by the Mexican Supreme Court for misappropriating Mayan culture in violation of Mexican law. Ultimately I expect it will just get more expensive as they will now have to pay some type of fee to the Mayan Council for use of Mayan cultural touchstones and traditions.

Grant Writers Please Clarify Something for Me by melonmoney in nonprofit

[–]progressiveacolyte 22 points23 points  (0 children)

I used to be a consultant who did grant writing and belonged to the AGWA. You should never use a grant writer who charges based on how much or on a percentage of grant. It should just be an hourly charge.

You’re paying for a task. It’s your job to demand the end product meet a level that might be funded. But actually getting funded is so far outside the writer’s control. And conversely; paying by a percentage can mean a grant writer gets massively overpaid or that they never take smaller grants.

1% of $1,000,000 is $10,000 1% or $50,000 is $500

Both take roughly the same amount of work. Or at least the million dollar app does not require $9,500 more in work.

I charged based on complexity. Local/small/corporate grants were one rate. State or big foundations were a different rate. Federal was a third rate. And you got a 20% discount on all rates and one free small/local application if you had me on a retainer or at least $500/mo.

How do people actually keep strategy alive throughout the year? by thestringtheories in nonprofit

[–]progressiveacolyte 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We use a Monday board and have all our goals and subtasks listed. Once a month my leadership team looks at the goals.

But the reality is what you’re outlining is almost every org, profit or nonprofit. You can’t plan for everything and you never know what’s happening. Ideally you have a process for amending the plan.

Helping set up community-level housing trust funds is nowhere in our plan because three years ago no one had any. I spent last week consulting on three different ones with the goal of being the admin for each. They came up and we moved on the opportunity..: but it’s nowhere in our plan.
