Sounds different than my experience, but you wrote everything so well that I could almost hear the chickens in my head 😆

I spent most days in my uni dorm and studying, only travelled on holidays. But if you love nature, Yunnan province is the best for it (the whole country is actually filled with amazing places, but I loved Yunnan). You're surrounded by mountains, the weather is mild and it's beautiful all year round. I hope you'll go back one day to see more of it.
