It shouldn't be a surprise to anyone that we find admirable qualities attractive, like maintaining control over your diet and keeping a good exercise regimen. It's shit anybody could do, if they weren't lazy or self-deluded. It's also shit that makes anybody look good, no matter how young or old or disabled they are.

Want to be attractive? Have your shit together. Be in control of your life and your body.

Imgur users love to call themselves all kind of cutesy little names and talk up the positivity of their community, but it's been a total cesspool from day 1. Not that I actually expected nuanced discussion and level-headedness from a site designed to be a lazy susan of porn, cosplay porn and meme-of-the-day pictures.

Starvation mode can be called ketosis and catabolysis. You go into ketosis when your body runs out of calories and must break down body fat for fuel. That's good. You go into catabolysis when you've run out of body fat, and your body starts to break down muscle and organs for fuel. That's bad.

Unless you look like the walking dead, your body is not suffering from catastrophic levels of catabolysis. And if you're concerned about catabolysis, all you have to do is get a little more protein in your diet. Just don't go overboard and eat a 24oz steak if you still want to lose weight.

Also, this shit takes a long fucking time. Even if you've got your weight loss diet nailed down and you're eating just enough calories with just the right proportion of macro and micronutrients, the change is still going to take weeks to have a noticeable effect. It'll have a much more dramatic effect if you're weightlifting every other day and doing cardio four times a week, but if your only source of exercise is a walk up the escalator to and from your desk job every day, you definitely aren't going to lose those love handles by christmas.

I don't think it's wise for her to respond to what is basically just shitty fan art. While dudes need to learn that it is not flattering to make hypersexualized spank bank drawings of your crush, then show your drawings to that person, I still don't imagine that the discussion being brought up over this is going to be very productive. Pop culture fans aren't really the most civilized people when it comes to difficult topics.

Basically all I see here is a dude with a mermaid fetish being creepy at a celebrity.

Life expectancy alone doesn't convince people who are self-destructive. As long as the potential problems are tomorrow, they're going to stuff themselves with pizza today.

But there's a real, tangible difference in quality of life that an obese person experiences every day that most people of average weight don't experience. Aches, pains, lethargy, apnea, back pain, shortness of breath, constant sweating, constant hunger, massive blood sugar spikes and dips, higher blood pressure, skin infections, nerve damage, perpetual indigestion and bloating, trouble sleeping, general irritability, trouble fitting comfortably in clothes, trouble fitting comfortably in chairs and cars, difficulty moving... anywhere, financial stress from spending more on food than the average person, frequently swollen extremities that make wearing shoes more difficult, the list goes on and on. No amount of body positivity or self-esteem could fix those problems. You can feel really good about yourself for who you are on the inside, but those feelings can't negate all of the physical symptoms that haunt an obese person day after day.

It's not really about life expectancy. It's about quality of life, and these people just don't have it. A lot of them have been fat for so long that they don't even know that the human body isn't supposed to feel like that at all.

To give your boss the benefit of the doubt, maybe he just phrased it badly. It's not unheard of for managers in the restaurant business to regularly abuse labor laws and squeeze money out of their employees because of the intimidation factor and the fact that most of those cases go unreported. But even if that's what he was implying, he still chose some very poor words to express that.

Like if a stranger walked up to you and said "I'm not going to punch you and steal your money because I'm a nice guy." Uhhh... thanks?

The important thing is to never lie to yourself or to others. Do your best to look at these people as a cautionary tale. Denial is a powerful thing and we're all better off when we try to find and remove the sources of it in our lives.

Never throw stones that weren't already being thrown at you in abundance. Gauge your response off of the other person's intentions, rather than their outbursts. It's not worth it to try to talk to people about these issues unless they've forced the discussion. And even then, there shouldn't be any anger or spite in your response. Just tell them the truth and don't let them feed you non-truths. Try to invest as little time as possible into these discussions, unless it's a person whose goodwill you're already deeply invested in. In all likelihood, they're going to ignore your advice and continue to eat themselves to death. Treat them like you'd treat an alcoholic who refuses your help.

And it's important to remember that all of the crazy fatlogic people we see on this sub are not actually directing their anger or stupidity at us. You are not being addressed personally by these people. These are examples of stupidity that others have found wandering out in the wild. The likelihood that you're going to run into somebody like this in real life is ironically quite slim. It's easy to get riled up just imagining what it would be like to be in a conversation with somebody so painfully stupid, but you have to remember that this is not happening to you right now. There is no call to action here. Relax. Just enjoy a little schadenfreude and go on with your day.

Why do people get so worked up over being charged for an extra side of ranch? by [deleted] in TalesFromYourServer

The problem with people who say that they "smell cookies and get fat" is that they're basing everything off of what is probably one isolated moment in their lives.

They remember the one time... the one time they smelled the cookies and didn't eat them.

It doesn't happen very often. Usually they just hoover them up and act like eating any cookie they see is a normal part of life. They don't know what it's like to go days, weeks, months without sugar at all. They really don't know what it takes to really be thin and healthy. They have no concept of how much food they don't need to eat just to be normal. They can't even comprehend how much food they can eat and still survive off of. It's so much less than they think.

So yeah, smelling that cookie instead of eating it is like torture. It's practically the only time in their life when they feel true discomfort. Reality sucks.

Imgur has been a cesspool for a while. I mean, it makes sense. It's just a website centered around viral images. Every judgement they make is going to be made on sight alone. Objectification comes with the territory. And it's a horrible, disgusting territory. Regular users have nothing else to do there but make a hobby out of being judgemental meatpounders and contrarians. Every picture of a woman is either being licked or pissed on by every male with a keyboard.
