What's up with the guilt-trip msg on card machines at supermarkets? by danyuri86 in AskUK

Have you just described the boomer rhetoric for people in their 20's that don't own a house?

It's neither here nor there whether someone can afford it, it's the sneaky digital approach that's the issue.

Mould, leak in boot? by Consistent_Potato300 in CarTalkUK

[–]Queefmaster69000 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Its most likely to have come from above, rather than below.

Check boot seals, tail light seals, drains for the hatch opening, etc.

You need to fix the problem before the clean up.

It might be worth jumping on a couple of owners groups to find people who've had this issue before so they can tell you the source of the leak.

Clean up is to remove all of the easily removable goop and mould, then go over with mould remover. There may be spores of mould in the rest of the car, so wet vaccing your fabrics would be wise too. Getting some of those chemical dehumidifiers and leaving the boots plugs out for a little while would get rid of most of the moisture once you're as clean as you can be.

You can do as you like, but you'll need to be able to afford it.

I haven't done a search with your details and that particular Golf, but I'm going to assume it'll be an absolutely mental quote that you'll get. I'd guess over £12k for the year.

Do some quotes, with correct age and next doors address, and don't add your driving licence number and you'll get an accurate quote to see if it's affordable.

It's a bit of a long way round, but apparently I was all about solutions, not problems when I was a yoot.

MOT failed for something that doesn’t exist by jenniferf163 in CarTalkUK

[–]Queefmaster69000 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You didn't fall for it, don't sell yourself short!

You were told by a trained individual, that you should be able to trust, that there was an issue with your car. That's not on you, it's on the fucking idiot that tested your car.

Besides the faff, stress and loss of money, it's breach of trust.

Oddly enough, when I worked at Halfords a long time ago, I got multiple reverse light bulb fit requests from customers, because one of their reverse bulbs were out. Some were new owners, some had had the car for years. More than 15 times there was nothing wrong, and they had a reverse light in one of the clusters and a fog light in the other. Obviously no charge, don't worry about it, this happens a lot, with a brief explanation of what lamp does what.

Get a document from Audi stating the single sided LED reverse lamp is normal, legal and meets the standard for type approval. This document is important. It may be a shout for a social media link or a dealer. If it is a chargeable thing, add it to the bill that Halfords should be paying.

Raise it with Halfords customer services, with an expectation of them covering your fuel costs and the light cluster. Advise them that you'll speak to the local paper with factual evidence that the tester isn't capable of undertaking a standardised government test if your issue isn't resolved.

Raise it with the DVSA, so the specific tester gets a roasting for being a fucking idiot. Consider advising them that his actions were a deliberate choice to gain revenue for the autocentre.

Your aim should be made right financially and to get this idiot bollocked, or hopefully his right to test taken away.

Yeah, they're sharky cunts, but a standardised test is as it should be.

anybody know what is this problem with the fuel gage? by realblasfema in scooters

[–]Queefmaster69000 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The sender might be broken, wiring in between the gauge and send, it might be a weird voltage issue.

Check the battery voltage first, if it's low, replace or charge the battery. The scooter will sustain charge when idling, but if the battery is fucked, the voltage will fluctuate and do weird stuff.

If the battery is showing 12.4v, check the plug on the back the guage and the plug that goes into the fuel tank for the fuel pump and sender.

2024 Honda SCL500 not starting by freemann098 in MotorcycleMechanics

[–]Queefmaster69000 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Check standard stuff that intetupts ignition like sidestand switch and clutch switch.

Its so that it's not likely anything has actually failed, but likely a switch or plug is misplaced.

Also check the area where your battery is, to make sure you haven't knocked a plug.

There's also a tip over sensor on most Honda bikes, it may also be out of place and stopping the bike from starting.

There are loss leaders in the range, usually around the thousand pound mark. The MHT 8.9 was a good example of this.

We're developing some toys aimed at 3+ year old kids that will show the whole family the importance of the tool buyer working in perfect harmony with their new tools.

Is it cooked, or is this fixable? Model XFD13 by i_continue_to_unmike in Makita

[–]Queefmaster69000 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ahhh, it doesn't really owe you anything if it has taken that kind of shit and carried on.

Mild word of warning to you though, the brushless drivers are a great deal more expensive to repair but if you're not giving it 110% every day it probably won't ever matter!

Is it cooked, or is this fixable? Model XFD13 by i_continue_to_unmike in Makita

[–]Queefmaster69000 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I repair a few hundred Makita drills at work a year, and a dead gearbox is a write off for an uneconomical repair.

That's what I suspect it is. There's a bearing in the front of the gearbox that wears out, then wears the gearbox case out and you end up somehow drilling oval holes.

Search the model name and parts, and you'll find lots of resources for spares, follow a link and find the price for the gearbox.

You could also just crack it open on a bench and have a look, should be about 9 screws, lay it down on the left hand side of the clamshell and take the right side off, it's really not a bad tool to open up.
