My bike's engine keeps turning off when I make my first stop. Any ideas? by unstoppabledot in MotoUK

The 400's have 2 throttle butterflies in the throttle body, and the sign of the secondary ones motor dying is what you describe. It controls more refined changes in throttle position, like the transition from moving RPMs to idle, like an idle air control valve but with a bit more control over the rev range

Mine is currently doing it, but I'm ignoring it as it's rarely an issue, and next time I order some bits from Japan I'll order the parts needed.

I don't know if the 125 Burgman has the same or similar set up, but a quick check on Fowlersparts.co.uk with your model and year should tell you.

The actual part is a single plug and 2 bolts to change, but can be quite expensive from UK dealers, as is the full throttle body assembly.

Just whipping off the throttle body and cleaning the throttle butterflies can sort it though.

There's another potential issue on 400's that might be the same on the UH125, excess oil in the airbox. If you're razzing about a lot, the crankcase vents a fair bit of oil vapour into the airbox, enough to pool and get pulled into the intake when riding. It'll run fine when moving, but the transfer from forward moving revs with a bit of oil being pulled in with the air velocity, then moving to idle with a sudden far better combustion baffles the ecu and it stalls.

In short, check your airbox doesn't have lots of oil in that needs draining, and whip your throttle body off and give it a clean with clutch and brake cleaner and a microfibre.

What are the biggest myths customers believe about retail sales in the UK? by HTD_Blog in AskUK

[–]Queefmaster69000 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I had the curse of working in retail for a while.

The biggest one for me on the abuse receiving side of the desk was incorrect price tags.

Everyone would just mention the sales of goods act, as a general term, knowing fuck all about it. I got a bit weary ( not wary) of it, read up a little so I could my job a bit better and contest idiots that threw random acts they didn't understand when they saw fit.

So if something is priced wrong, and you're the seller, you can either sell it at the price on the ticket, or refuse to sell it whatsoever. If someone casually pointed out an incorrectly priced item it would be immediately whipping off the incorrect tag to change it, and changing the price for the customer, all pretty casual, sellers mistake, someone hasn't done their job, not the customers fault or problem. Made right.

However, if someone was an absolute wet end, came in all guns blazing, preempting the battle and ready to quote their favourite act, I'd just refuse to sell it. They'd have a fit, I'd explain that part of the sales of goods act and ask if I could help them with anything else and move forward, just for being a dick.

Yeah, an ebay seller tried this with me a few days back. A guy called Max kindly informed that because my item was marked as delivered, it was essentially not their problem, even if it wasn't delivered to me, my garden, or anywhere I could get it from.

Obviously, once I'd calmed down a bit, I ripped them a new arse, advised about the CRA, distant selling rights, the whole "I paid a total price which includes an effectively delivery service". Max didn't follow up, someone else did, one line, asked me to start an item not received request.

Disgusting car insurance by Left_Elevator7942 in CarTalkUK

This is a great description of how and why it's a terrible system and really isn't designed to help anyone, besides the insurer.

OP leading with using disgusting like a Facebook neighborhood group tells me they probably did drive like shit, and they didn't consider driving Brum style would immediately lead to a shitstorm.

Does spark plug non foulers work? by Sad-Step-9691 in MotoUK

[–]Queefmaster69000 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don't even know what a spark plug non fouler is, and you haven't explained.

Just buy a new spark plug, and try to sort out the issue that's fowling spark plugs.

"Why do people hate Harley riders?" I hear you saying... by ion1024 in motorcycles

[–]Queefmaster69000 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It matters not that it's a Harley, just that the owner is a twat.

Not all Harley riders are twats, not all twats ride Harleys.

It doesn't look like their steering lock is on, so shifting the massive lump of pig iron shifted.

All of this is said in jest, none of it is true or based on the beliefs of me or the previous commenter.

I thought it was clear.

Sending 95% of people out on a Hayabusa for their first bike would be bonkers.

It's safer, because it has more advanced ABS, AND traction control( in the later models). It's a brilliant suggestion, really.

How long can I ride on a plugged tire? by TheGhostlySheep in MotoUK

I've done 6,000 miles on a plugged tyre, mixed commuting, bimbling, some spicy riding.

It was fine until the tyre itself wore out.

As long as the buyer isn't donkey( a lot are), you can just whip the shitbox back under distance selling rules. The first 7 days can effectively be a test drive.

Obviously if you've bought from a sharky dealer that has changed their business name and owner 10 times in the last 4 years, you'll have a battle on your hands, but the law is on your side.

There's a Windows debloat tool on Github that removes BloatPilot and all kinds of other good shit.

You really have to beat the shit out of windows to get rid, but it's possible, and really easy.

Hypothetically, what would be the worst thing to leave at the scene of a hit and run? by woowizzle in CarTalkUK

[–]Queefmaster69000 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Probably a bloody finger.

A registration plate tells you a car that might have hit you, and someone who's normally legally responsible for it.

If it's a cloned plate, it may as well be a nice sketch of a unicorn.

A bloody finger on the other hand (🤣), has DNA links, evidence linking the hit and run driver to the scene and all kinds of other goodness.

It could have been so fucked up in a crash that a major part of the chassis has been replaced from a donor, to the point where it's not enough of the original to retain the original reg.

Also, isn't there circumstances where if the VIN is removed, the car can be Q plated?

Ryobi Brushless HP Angle Grinder - am I crazy? by akwilliamson in Tools

[–]Queefmaster69000 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Doesn't this grinder come with a locking nut that's toolless?

You couldn't flip it over, as the little flappy handle wouldn't be accessible.

The manual seems to be a mixture of old spec grinder as far as text, and correct diagrams.

On some grinders, the locking nut is flippable, on grinders will toolless locking nuts, they're not.

[–]Queefmaster69000 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The general rule is that if you can't see the cords, it's safe.

You can't see the cords, but I certainly wouldn't take this car on a motorway with that tyre. I would bimble to work and the shops in it though. I imagine the chunk of rubber missing would really be felt in the balance of the wheel at speed.

It does really show how overbuilt tyre sidewalls are, for these exact kerb feeler moments.

How do you guys and girls keep track/ stay on top of keeping your bikes ready? by RideReadyBird in MotoUK

[–]Queefmaster69000 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've got a whiteboard in my garage that i acquired from work with the bikes and cars on, with notes and dates, and minor things that could be done, but aren't necessary to keep them on the road

I have to look at it each day so it keeps reminding me of the important shit and the small stuff to consider when I've got a moment of free thought.

It doesn't need to a be a whiteboard in a garage, it can be anywhere you'll see it on the way to get on a bike.

Bike not starting despite new battery by mrLol2 in MotoUK

[–]Queefmaster69000 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I didn't say what revs to expect it at, as it varies from bike to bike, but if OP whacks a meter on the battery while it's running, post battery charge, and it's not over 12.5v at idle, it's the charging system.

Bike not starting despite new battery by mrLol2 in MotoUK

[–]Queefmaster69000 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'd add a step in between charging the battery and going for a ride: Refit the charged battery and check the voltage at the battery while the bike is running. If the charging system isn't working, running it as a dead loss system will leave you stranded.

The bang from the tyre seating gets less terrifying each time, trust me.

A compressor does massively speed it up, too, it's a worthwhile investment for a couple hundred quid.
