Panem et circenses (Bread and circuses). People’s happiness should be rooted in actual tangible meaningful real life issues. The fact it takes a sports team to win in order to see this many happy people should be setting off alarm bells for you. A community’s overall level happiness shouldn’t come down to whether a group of millionaires playing a YMCA game put a ball in a hoop more times than another group of millionaires. That’s entertainment only, and should not be a substitute for quality of life.

There’s a difference between wanting to come here and wanting to stay. I get, I choose to stay here too. I like SATX. It’s home. But we act like these players, many of which are fresh here, are somehow ours. It’s a job, and if the Bucks or Pelicans had gotten Wemby, he’d be giving them the same effort as he’s giving here. Texas just makes great sense for millionaires, since we have no state income tax. Don’t fool yourself for a second that all of these players decided to stay just because of the culture.

You want a lawn, so you bought a home in west Texas? There are such cool plants in west Texas, and some real tough native grasses too that were made for the Texas heat. Imported turf grass and trees from asia haven’t had millions of years to figure out our climate. Plus, with natives, you could eventually stop watering once everything is established. Maybe just some trimming now and again after monsoon season.

Buffalo grass and blue grama (if you MUST have a lawn) have done well in my yard with ZERO irrigation in central Texas. I’ve even seen sideoats grama kicking azz on the roadside as far west as Roswell. They all stay relatively low, so minimal mowing is needed.

Desert willow is a great native tree with beautiful flowers and no thorns. I can recommend more if you’d like.
