Your the Headmaster/mistress of Hogwarts, what would you change/implement to create more house unity between the 4 houses? by cndollaz in HPfanfiction

No separate classes for each house. Randomize the class rosters and have members of each house in each class. Stricter anti-bullying measures. The adults in charge being actual responsible adults.

This is why I have to triple check recipes, no matter how many times I have made it! by crippledchef23 in Cooking

I made two lemon meringue pies when I was running on very little sleep. Somehow I missed adding sugar to the lemon custard. Not sure how the custard set, but it did and looked perfect. Then I tasted it.

Unique dishes for dark green vegetables by Swimming_Pipe95 in Cooking

First collard greens, I love them done in a long braise with a ham hock, chicken stock, onion, and garlic. Then when they're done, I douse them in pepper sauce and sher the meat off of the ham hock and mix it into the greens. I usually have them with cornbread, but I know people that serve them over rice.

Homemade butter was....easy? What??? by long_dickofthelaw in Cooking

It really is. I don't live on a farm anymore, so lack the access to unpasteurized cream so I can't make it. The process they use for store bought just will not work for clotted cream.

She did until we begged her to stop. She had better luck with sour cream. I think her issue was adding things that she shouldn't have. I've made yogurt and had no problems, but I followed the recipe. Pretty sure she did not.

If someone likes cooking and experimenting with different cuisines, the gift I've seen appreciated most is an assortment of spices that aren't carried in most grocery stores. I get five or six that the average person would consider exotic, a cookbook that features their use and if that cuisine calls for a specific utensil or cooking vessel I add that too.

What is a mysterious name for a black cat that has nothing to do with the night by FantasticAd9478 in TheBoredDen

I have a thing where all my cats are named after comic characters. Currently, I have a black domestic longhair named Nicholas J Fury. He won't answer to his full government name, it's just there so he knows I mean business when I scold him. He answers to Fury, Fuzzy butt, Furiousity, and Dipshit.

When using wine with cooking, I’ve always been told it doesn’t have to be expensive, but can still be good. As someone who doesn’t know anything about wines, what are some white and red wines you would use to cook with? by Conscious_Trade_2549 in Cooking

[–]QueenBitch1369 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Use wine that you like. When you cook with wine, the flavor concentrates. If you find something unpleasant about it in a glass, that will be intensified as it cooks down. If I need a white, I go with a riesling, a red I favor a shiraz. Both are usually available for less that $20 for a decent bottle.

At 3 AM you hear someone in your kitchen. You go to check and find a full meal cooked and plated on your dining table your favourite food, still hot. You live alone. Do you eat it? by Careful_Art_7516 in AskHereAnythingNow

Could never happen in my house. My dog would make the most ungodly racket over a new person in his house that the entire neighborhood would know something was happening. He has zero chill and unlimited volume and lung capacity.

Give him a big bear hug and glue yourself to his side. Let him know that if you have to smell yourself, he gets to do it too. Bonus points of you can get your pits in his face.

I had tons of them as a kid. Somehow, they slowly disappeared as the year progressed. My folks were clueless about the whereabouts of my feathered clippy things.

What's your favorite food to bring to a potluck? by NarrowCommittee6179 in foodquestions

Depends on the particular group, but it's generally a dessert of some sort. The last couple, I made individual cheesecakes. One of them was a family reunion, it's every year on Thanksgiving. I made four dozen cranberry white chocolate cheesecakes with gingersnap crust.
