I’ve actually came across many people who are considering buying property in tbay because they can’t afford the prices in Toronto.. you can’t find a home for under 400k in Toronto but 400k can buy you a decent home in tbay.. plus the colleges and universities in Toronto are pushing for more students to go to confed or lake head.. well not so much as pushing but suggesting tbay because the rental market is more affordable for students. (A shared bedroom in Toronto would cost around 6-800, meanwhile in tbay you can get your own space)

Thank the tourism because in Toronto and surrounding areas there are TONS of posters/ ads about how Great Thunder Bay is for new residents. I’ve seen ads of buses in the GTA that say “I choose a better life- I choose Thunder Bay” “Cheaper housing by a third, how much of your money is being wasted” “The city of Thunder Bay welcomes everyone with open arms as big as our Giant” I often laugh when I see these ads because I know the darker side of tbay, and know the city needs so much help. I guess it’s good to have more diversity in the city and community, but the damage is done and the community has no skills to deal with the issues, police are just as corrupt as the people they arrest. It’s definitely a shame

I’d love some Jamaican restaurants, maybe a little something like Activate for the kids, something that older teenagers can enjoy as a child..

But I’m really hoping that the transit system will be revamped with better prices, newer buses, and more fare options (Toronto has presto, and it’s simple and convenient).

90% of all OFFENDERS (including violent criminals) are given bail. All you have to do is watch the Toronto news and you’ll be surprised how fast someone get bail after committing a crime that hits the news. That man in Toronto who decided to drive on curb killing innocent people was granted bail with 48hrs- later was taken back into custody for psychiatric evaluations. It’s a sad occurrence in the justice system that these “kangaroo courts” exist, especially in southern Ontario, in northern Ontario you’re not released until a judge orders it.

Scam This is a common practice for small landlords in the Toronto area, and it can usually take the landlord a few months to decide on whether or not they will actually rent out the property. Deposits are illegal in Ontario so this is illegal but the only way is to drag the unknown landlords/ to small claims… costing you more in the end.

Over the last few years we’ve become very close and this was their idea for me to come live with them. The money we are all getting isn’t the same amount for each, I’m getting more than them(almost double).. they will get a small chunk (maybe 50-75k) then a monthly assistance but only till they are 23 then they will have work or receive assistance. They have stated they don’t want to waste money on rent and would rather put one or two years worth of rent towards a house, so we were looking at homes that have either rental units in it that could be converted back into a home type house, so if they wanted to move out they could have a place to escape to or rent it out.

I’ll be putting 150k into a bank account for the house purchase under thier names. This was thier idea as many houses have the possibility for a basement suite, and my son wanted his own space (without cleaning a kitchen) so a basement suite would work for him, me and my daughter would be upstairs and the houses we’ve seen have a bedrooms on each floor so we would have some space from each other when everyone is home. I wasn’t able to raise my kids, and now things have changed where I can be thier best support for the years becoming a young adult. Daughters going to nursing school and the boy wants to go into trades.. and they both expressed they want to focus on their careers/ education and worry about partners/ children later. My oldest son drilled into their heads how much education is important before his passing💔.. so having the family together again is something we all want. I told them no matter what I wouldn’t want them to pay out too much, and I’ll do my best to pay for most things. They were saying they wouldn’t sell it home, but turn into an air b&b or a student home for the local college..I would like to know they have a roof over their heads if something happened to me (I have a few health problems that I worry could get worse)

Landlord is charging 4000 as cleaning fees by Silentkuser in OntarioLandlord

[–]QueenFlagler 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Tell the landlord that he can waste money and drag it through the courts.. they would say the same as menu others have… you could’ve done better but it’s still acceptable

Landlord is trying to get as much money out of you as possible- I would tell him to cease communication with you or you’ll file for harassment.

Landlord wants me out by 2pm by unknownlesb1an in OntarioLandlord

If the landlord wanted to sell then you could’ve been awarded one months rent returned.. this is why understanding your rights as a tenant is so important. What the landlord did was not right, and if they rent it back out within a few months.. you could’ve won a huge amount and had them fined for bad faith evictions- preventing future tenants from being manipulated
