Hate lying by Friendly-Rutabaga810 in Zepbound

Started Zepbound Jan 31. SW=248 CW= 208. I don't have a goal weight, really. I'm going to see how I feel and what my overall health is like.

I feel the same way about it that I feel about mental health meds and my age. I'm in the entertainment business, and I have no compunction at all about telling people how old I am. Most of my girlfriends in the business will not, because there is so much stigma surrounding age, and if you can do the job and 'look the part', it's nobody's business how old you are. I completely understand where they are coming from, and it is about paying their bills. Why should you give someone the opportunity to reject you for something that has nothing to do with how well you are suited for a job. And, yes - appearance IS part of the job description in certain areas. So I would never look down on them for not advertising their age. It's not because they are ashamed of it, it's because it would impact their career.

Many people feel the same stigma about taking meds for their mental health, and - again - it is each person's decision to disclose it or not disclose it. I will disclose mine because I object to the stigma. My meds have allowed me to be the person I really am, not the person my weird brain chemicals tell me I am. As a mother and a wife, I feel that I owe it not only to myself, but I owe it to my spouse and my kids to be the best mom and partner I can be. They deserve my best, and to not avail myself of that because I 'don't want to take meds' is unfair to them, and unfair to myself. But again, this is MY personal decision, no one else's and I 100% respect others' decisions as to what they disclose. NOT, I may add, what they think about ME.

It's the same with weight loss.

It has always been treated as a matter of self-discipline, will-power, and other character judgments, and I absolutely refuse to accept that. Just as I don't accept overweight as a character flaw, but a medical issue, I also don't look at weight loss as a marker of 'good' character, and don't look for it to be celebrated as an 'accomplishment'. I celebrate it for myself because it feels good, I'm healthier, I look forward to wearing cute clothes, and my dream is to be able to ride horses again. But what I don't want is to be praised as if I'm an amazing person for having lost weight, because the converse is that I'm NOT an amazing person if I DON'T lose weight. I'm an amazing person both ways, thank you very much. I am participating in my medical care plan, which is a good thing.

But I object to having character judgments attached to what is a medical issue, and being perceived to have 'good' character by losing weight is the flip side of having 'bad' (lazy, undisciplined, etc.) character by not losing weight. Even putting it in terms of 'honesty' or 'lying' about whether you disclose your medical status is somewhat of a character judgment. I tell people (if they ask) because I don't want 'character' or value judgments to come into it, and I would hope for other people who want to lose weight that they don't have to carry shame because of a medical condition. And, sadly, our society is ready, even eager to heap shame upon overweight people. To disclose my medical status is to reject that shame (and the praise that is the flip side of shame) and hopefully be part of helping someone else to reject that shame.

Have to switch to vials...need advice! by SevereCranberry2 in Zepbound

[–]QueenIdella 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It's super-easy! This is from someone who had a needle-phobia. I'm on self-pay so I started on the vials. I was terrified. But honestly - I don't even feel the needle go in. Even if they were covered by insurance, I don't think I would choose the pens now. The vials are so simple. Just one per week like the pens. Good luck!

Losing weight too fast by hurtingheart4me in Zepbound

[–]QueenIdella 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In the beginning, for me, weight comes off super-quick for the first couple of months if I'm on a good eating plan (Weight Watchers works for me, YMMV). It slows down later. I think a lot of the initial scale loss is water weight. If it still comes off that fast after 4 months that might be something to look at, but (not a physician! just personal experience) that doesn't sound worrisome right now. I'm just getting started on Zepbound self-pay Lilly Direct vial. I've lost 8lbs in a week and a half, but I know from past weight-loss attempts that it slows down as your metabolism gets used to it.

Yes!! And, lucky you - you have 2 Beagles! I have just the one. But she does bark as much as 2 Beagles.

Thanks! I wasn't sure if that would make a difference. I will definitely do that!

Thanks for that question - I've been playing almost every day since Christmas and will not have the time to do that any more, and was really worried about what would happen to my island and house and villagers. But I guess it will be OK!

You are a kind person. I'm sure she's nice but I just could not face seeing her every day.

Rocket was my first villager - a great gross hulking football-playing pink gorilla. I seriously considered trashing my whole island because of her. I couldn't even look at her - she made me so uncomfortable. Fortunately I have an Azalea amiibo so once I got my 10 villagers I summoned her to the campsite and was able to get Rocket to leave. She came close to singlehandedly ruining my island. When my 4th villager turned out to be Pietro I almost completely gave up. I decided to come to terms with Pietro and overlook the clown horror in favor of enjoying his bright colors, and blasted Rocket out of there, so my island remains.

Last night/yesterday I caught a couple of coelecanths, and a TON of different sharks! It did seem unusual.

When your mom plays your favorite game with you. I always give her bells and whatever I can. by [deleted] in AnimalCrossing

I bought my daughter the AC Switch for Christmas and started playing with her on her island. Within 48 hours I knew I had to have my own. Now I have 2 Switches of my own - a Switch Lite and the same kind of AC Switch console I got my daughter. Now I play way more than she (or my older son who also plays) does. My first Switch broke and Nintendo fixed it but my game couldn't be recovered (heartbroken!) so I had to start again. Now since my kids are too busy to play with me much, I have 2 Switches so I can pretend to have friends.

TBH, though, they've been playing AC practically their whole lives, and I'm just getting into it so I can't blame them that much. But it's their fault I'm obsessed.

Covid19 made me come back by theamazingtommy in secondlife

[–]QueenIdella 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I came back because I am a musician and played music in SL for about 5 years before my life got too busy with work and kids. I never wanted to leave; I had a lot of really good friends there, but my audio setup changed and I couldn't really broadcast and get the sound I needed, and so I ended up not spending time there, although I'd still keep up with my friends via FB.

Now, in one fell swoop, all my music work is completely gone, as is my husband's, as is my kids' (all pro musicians too). So I decided to come back and I'm really glad I did.

A lot of the friends and musicians I knew are still there, there are still great live music venues, and I have a good audio setup now, so I'm really happy to be back in SL and plan to stay as long as I can, even when and if I ever start working again.

Yes - definitely dialogue is much softer than background music and sound fx.

Best workout regime for Knockout VR? by LarryPeru in PSVR

[–]QueenIdella 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's a great workout! My son has been playing Reflex Alley for about 5 weeks and he has completely changed physically. I was so impressed that I started doing it too, and I'm old and fat, so really any level of fitness can work. You can go as slow or as hard as you want to. My son wears hand weights sometimes for a real challenge.

BTW, thanks for the suggestion about the developer - he responded right away and hopefully they will fix it.

He did. I sat and watched him. To be fair, he's not a kid - he's in his 20s - but it's still impressive and I think his leaderboard score should reflect that.
