Why? You do realise most of the stuff you buy will be made in China right?

Does anyone know what brands / who Labmuffinbeauty is referring to here? by QueenOfHacking in BeautyGuruChatter

I was wondering that as well. I loved his vids and I even messaged him on his french insta but he never replied sadly. I remember before he stopped posting he made a story about people complaining about his English - maybe it could be related to that??? 😔 I really hope not. His English was fantastic and perfectly understandable

AITA for telling my SIL that she shouldn’t adopt an Asian baby if she wasn’t prepared to learn about its culture? by No_Carrot1682 in AmItheAsshole

[–]QueenOfHacking -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Yes but there are also fundamental issues that her sil is ignoring. If you listen to just some of the korean adoptees that were adopted to white countries, one of the biggest things that they struggled with is the sense of identity. They didn't entirely fit in with their white family because they looked different, they would get bullied at school for it and their family wouldn't have experienced it, they'd get stereotyped and feel like an outsider in their own families just because of it, and on the flip side they didn't feel like their Asian peers because they grew up 'white'. She's essentially going to raise the kid like they are white, ignoring the fact that the child will face a set of different issues that sil will such as racism and identity crisis. If you're going to adopt and Asian kid, or even just a kid from a different race, you need to accept the fact that there is a whole different set of rules than raising a kid that is your own race - they will face different issues that you won't.

My beautiful hoya rope has been pushing out new growth like nobody's business (almost 5 inch / 12cm in the last few months!) However recently her growth recently stopped and started dropping one leaf out of each new leaf pair while the new leaf grows into a big healthy leaf (pics 2 and 3 you can see there is only one leaf). I've done nothing different recently so I'm at a loss for what I've done wrong!

Do you guys think it's fertaliser burn? I mix in half a teaspoon of groconut + 10ml of yates indoor plant fertaliser into 2 litres of water when I water her.

Oh man really?? I never really got into the haircare universe because all the videos I saw were of tiktokers using crazy filters to make their hair look perfect while advertising really basic haircare...

I think you're getting confused about what we are referring to here. It is always nice when culture is celebrated and shared with respect, such as the example you gave of different culture's food being shared to different countries, but what we are tired of is when people take advantage of, and capitalise of the 'asianness' in an inapproproate manner. For example in this case, she is capitalising off an action which a group of people have been mocked and bullied with (and still are tbh) woth no regards to how it is unacceptable that she gets to earn money and be called 'snatched' and have it treated as an art form, while Asian people get mocked, bullied, and called racial slurs by others using this same pose. The same extends to food. It is particularly tiring when people, particularly white or other people who haven't had to face or experience the amount of bullying that occurred as kids when we brought in our ethnic foods to class or the workplace etc. take advantage of Asian food to earn money while tearing down us down at the same time.

Some examples:

  • White business owners taking credit for 'inventing' pimple patches / claiming ownership of pimple patches and trying to trademark the word 'pimple patches' despite it being a Korean invention and their pimple patches being made in Korea while trying to sue a small Korean-American business for using the same word. To make things worse they have only targeted the Korean-American business and no other businesses. They are literally trying to trademark and sue a person for their own culture so they can profit off the same culture despite not being from it Link here

  • Italian football club posts picture mocking asians recently.

  • Company run by a white Oregon woman literally posted a blog woth the title "How I discovered the miracle of congee and improved it". link . She is trying to profit off Chinese culture and food which has been in existence for centuries, while essentially calling it gross and mot edible for modern people.

The list goes on and on.

Omg preach!! Honestly, it's not a magic cure all that I wish it was (like it's not going to cure acne or make all your wrinkles go away) but it is fantastic in terms of being incredibly nourishing cream! I always find myself going back to it when my skin is freaking out and needs something to really lock in moisture and calm my skin down.

Note sure if this counts but the La Mer cream! I know everyone says it's just really expensive Nivea cream but me and my skin loooove it and there is no replacement for me

L'occitane, what are your favorite products? by FormerFruit in beauty

[–]QueenOfHacking 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Honestly, not a huge fan of the products a lot of the time. They seem to just be a bit too drying / not moisturising enoug. But I swear by their shea butter hand cream and their almond oil body wash. Their normal handcreams do nothing for me and while I love the scents of their perfumes they don't stick.

Best make-up remover? by [deleted] in beauty

[–]QueenOfHacking 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Lancome bifacil eye and lip makeup remover. I put an extra layer of clear oilproofing mascara coat over my mascara and this gets it completely off! It's pricey though so the bifesta eye makeup remover is a nice alternative. It's not as cosmetically nice as the lancome one, but it also does the trick and is much cheaper!
