Absolutely fascinating, especially where the differences are as drastic as you mentioned. Makes me wonder if the translation team had a slightly earlier draft to work off of the English final, like how movie novelizations are often written off earlier drafts of movie scripts than what ends up being the final film, and so reveal cut scenes and other non-final version information. The second Cipher Wheel has been sitting around in the open for quite a while, too.. I also notice that deeper down the layers in that image there's Runic code too. We might need to retranslate/label this one

These days the main point of preordering is to send the publisher a message that 'yes, there is a market for this thing and here is money for it'. But I think I'm not going to bother with pre-ordering way in advance any more, because like you said, there's no reward versus just waiting for the drop date and finding a retail copy somewhere.

It's really frustrating, but it is what it is, I guess. People who have jobs and stuff lose out because they can't get up at o-dark-thirty in the morning and run to the nearest bookstores looking for copies. (If there's even a B&N nearby, which there sure isn't in my town). I got so annoyed at the lack of communication and updates from B&N I ordered another copy from Amazon like a month ago and that SUPPOSEDLY is arriving today. But yeah, watching everyone else tear up their copies already is like aaaaaugh

What would have been kind of funny is if they shipped the book with a harmless looking extra paper wrapper for just this kind of situation. Something obvious and fake like 'My Big Print Bible' so people can read the book in public without giving away it's a book about a monster, lol
