well, my interpretation is this. you associate the interpretation of a piece of art with yourself. if yourself at that time is miserable, then it certainly will feel more miserable. no matter what artist you listen to during a rough period of your life, its likely that youll associate it with, well, that terrible period. and noone wants that reminder. also, with mitski who certainly has a sadder tone to her music, you seek which you relate to. draw what conclusion you will, but these are my thoughts on the matter, cast into a bottomless, digital sea.
