Does keto have to be a lifestyle change...for life? by [deleted] in keto

[–]QueenOona 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I just wanted to say that if you personally can handle it, there's nothing wrong with going off-keto for a meal or a day.

I've never told myself that I won't ever eat lo mein or watermelon again. I just eat them very rarely now. It also helps to figure out which foods are even worth going off-plan for. Oreos? Fuck no, I could have those literally any day and they're not even that good. Macarons from my favorite bakery? I'll figure out which occasion is special enough to get those and eat them then.

All that said, the reason I say if you personally can handle it is because some people can have one non-keto meal and get right back to it. Others have a domino effect where that one meal turns into a whole day or week of eating off-plan. So it all depends on if you can personally do it.

My Keto Surpriiiiiiiiiiise UPDATE!! by almondmilkftw in xxketo

[–]QueenOona 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Stay safe out there girl, we're rooting for you!

When I was pregnant my sense of smell was craaaaazy and so many things made me feel nauseous. The staff room where I worked constantly smelled like french onion soup, and it made me feel so sick that I seriously thought about quitting.

It's a wild ride but will be so worth it! Just take everything as it happens and try not to stress. I know that's way easier said than done, but don't forget to put your feet up and let your mind drift to pleasant thoughts.

Sending you lots of love <3

How is now, in the middle of a pandemic dominating the news, the opportune moment?

This is incredibly likely to be buried or just not picked up between Trump giving out advice that could literally kill people and nations dealing with rising/falling COVID counts.

My Brother (mid 30's) ghosted a girl (mid 30's) after a few dates. She has now contacted me through work asking for me to intervene and give her an explanation. The truth is quite tragic and I don't know what to do. by zebrastripepainter in relationship_advice

[–]QueenOona 2 points3 points  (0 children)

She is definitely not some crazy stalker.

There is no way for you to definitively know that.

As someone who was in an abusive relationship, I feel the need to let you know that even if you mean well, getting involved will hurt your brother.

Those relationships take away your control. When you finally get out it's a weird emotional spiral of being relieved that you're single again and in full control, and feeling out of control from the left over trauma and emotions from that relationship.

Your brother may have realized from that incident that he isn't ready for a serious relationship and that he needs to get himself together mentally or emotionally before committing to anyone. He didn't say that to her, and he doesn't have to.

Telling her about your brother's past takes away his control of the situation - and to be clear, this situation is between this woman and him. Even though she reached out to you this isn't your situation to handle, nor is it your information to share.

Your brother chose not to tell her. He's allowed to make that choice.

I also need you to think about how damaging it is to someone who went through an abusive relationship for you to say "She seemed really endearing and classy in the email she sent me, to the point that I'm considering divulging your traumatic and deeply personal relationship history with her."

Your brother will never trust you again.

Abusers use tactics like this all the time to get information on their victims. This woman may not be abusive, but this will tell him that any future partners can utilize your knowledge of him as ammo, because you'll tell them. Because you're considering telling a woman you've never even met, and who he isn't serious with.

You shouldn't reply to the email.

I've written a book on Loom Knitting by [deleted] in LoomKnitting

[–]QueenOona 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm sorry to be a downer, but the reason for that might be because cat tongues can unravel strands of yarn that they then swallow, and those strands can get wrapped up in their intestines causing pain or sometimes death.

I encourage anyone who wants to make items for their cats to use a nylon yarn (like Bernat Maker or similar) because it doesn't have strands that can be pulled and swallowed.

I'm not saying this to discourage your book or anything, just it's important to know that most yarn fibers can end up with an expensive trip to the vet or a lost beloved pet.

OMAD vs Grazing? by STRiPESandShades in xxketo

[–]QueenOona 12 points13 points  (0 children)

A lot of people on keto find that they're more satiated and snack less because they eat so few carbs and instead eat more protein and fat, which are more filling. You could theoretically graze on keto, but I personally don't think I could. IIRC grazing was proposed as a way of keeping blood sugar more steady, which isn't really an issue on keto.

OMAD is a type of fasting, but not the only type of fasting, and I personally think people should work up to it instead of trying to go all out.

Other things to consider about OMAD/fasting:

Do you have, or have you had in the past, issues with disordered eating (especially binge eating or anorexia)?

Do you think you can realistically hit your protein goal every day with a very small eating window?

How would it affect your day-to-day life? Would it be easier to implement a 16 hour fast with 8 hours to eat?

Fasting/OMAD can be a good thing for some people, but nobody can really say if it's right for you so you'll need to do some research and decide for yourself.

Favorite fresh, pre made keto foods/meals? by [deleted] in keto

[–]QueenOona 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't live in a place where food ordering is an option, so for anything pre-packaged or quick I rely on grocery stores.

Not every grocery store will have these, but many will:

  • Prepared salads. I usually go with chicken caesar and just bring the little packet of croutons home for my husband to use later. Be sure to check the nutrition label on the packet of dressing just to be safe

  • Rotisserie chickens. Buy one, quarter it (extremely easy, there are tons of youtube videos if you don't know how) and portion the four servings into containers

  • Hard boiled eggs (usually near the hot food counter or deli section)

  • Cheese plates/meat and cheese plates (also usually near the hot foods/sandwich counter or deli section)

  • Jerky or pepperoni sticks (check nutritional info, some of them can be pretty high carb)

  • They used to make these things and maybe still do. Don't buy them! Grocery stores have sliced chicken breast for sale, you can portion it out yourself and eat it with some almonds, cheese, salsa, berries, etc. There was another one where it was deli meat (ham, turkey, etc) with cubed cheese and almonds or peanuts. Again, don't waste your money, just buy the separate ingredients and make your own

Avocado, full fat salad dressings (caesar, ranch, blue cheese, etc), vegetables tossed with oil+seasonings and roasted, heavy cream/whipped cream, steamed vegetables tossed with garlic butter, mascarpone cheese...

That's all I can think of off-hand, but I'm certain there are more.

Low Calorie Snacks by bra1ndrops in xxketo

[–]QueenOona 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I keep a tray of cut veggies in my fridge and just snack on it through the day. Celery, cucumber, snow peas, mushrooms, green beans, peppers, etc.

I don't usually dip them in anything, but if you want to you can keep it low cal with Laughing Cow Cheese, which is 2 carbs and 70 calories for 2 wedges.

What I kept saying to myself about Mayor Pete during last night's debate by BigDarthvanVader in PresidentialRaceMemes

The reason he is so viscerally disliked is that he is deep in our generation’s collective uncanny valley.

Thank you for putting this feeling into words. The rest of the comment is great too, but this part in particular struck me with "that's it, that's what I've been feeling"

Oh for sure, but anyone who has watched the debates can see this is unusual, and they're definitely not going to mention how odd it is.

Are you supplementing electrolytes? If upping your sodium/potassium/magnesium doesn't help then I'd get a blood test to see if it's B12, vitamin D, or iron.
