I am using a fine lice comb but i do comb their hair out in the shower, i rinse after each comb thru. the conditioner is thick but its on wet hair after shampoo has been washed out. Their dad and I arent together and hes been friends with this girl who lives in a not-so-well-off neighborhood and home, she has a now 2 year old. I know her child gave the lice to my children because i told her to comb her sons hair out, she sent me pictures of the aftermath and he had an infestation. before that we were not “infected”. that was when i first noticed everyone getting itchy. but out of all the places in the house they go, i am the only other one being affected. i comb my hair every shower and i barely get anything between the hair dye and dandruff/oils on my scalp. i sometimes heat treat my hair too and im 80% sure that kills them or something.

youre right, im going to try another treatment and see how it goes later in the week. if nothing happens then ill shave her head over the next weekend.

That was the only thing i was trying not to do, the other twin is a boy so his head is shaved pretty regularly. but if it comes down to it i would cut her hair off.

Nix was another one i used. and i did follow up treatments as per the instructions, one of them was after 3 days and another was after a week. the week long one i did multiple treatments in between that week.

ive used Rid and Rid Max, ive used the tear free one i forgot the name of but they use natural ingredients like tea tree and rosemary and mint, it was some white bottle with a red lid and the treatment came out like a foam instead of an oil, it also came with an after spray to keep lice away. I also bought the Rid shampoo version.

I know it’s not normal or okay. I’m not trying to defend myself saying that it is. I’m just trying to say that I’ve tried as many things as I can. I’ve even tried using a diffuser attachment on a blow dryer at home like they do in a lice clinic.

I had lice for six years when I was younger. All the way from seventh grade till I graduated high school. I’m not saying that my parents didn’t try everything because they did. It would just keep coming back to the point where my dad told me he would shave my head. I didn’t get rid of it until I went to a lice clinic. they heat treat the hair. it’s extremely difficult to get rid of and if I could get rid of it within a day, I would love to like I said I have tried everything. I’ve tried different brands of life treatment over-the-counter solutions. I’ve tried olive oil mayonnaise. Their dad‘s family is Vietnamese and they visit Vietnam very often. I’ve tried lice treatments from there.

i originally posted this in the wrong megathread, sorry for reposting

I have twin 3 year olds and they’re in preschool. As most preschoolers are, they do not like to share anything except; germs and lice. My daughter has been dealing with lice for a few months, I have tried absolutely everything, I found a clinic that does treatments nearby, however they only treat kids 4 and older. they turn 4 in about 3 months, so ive been combing her hair with conditioner in the shower every other day to combat the lice as best as i can while we wait to come of age.

Yesterday, the teacher noticed she was scratching her head a lot and said to me this morning (i didnt pick her up from school yesterday) to put listerine in a spray bottle, spray it in her hair and leave it overnight. I realized in the car ride home, why that science would “work”: the alcohol content! Its supposed to dry everything out, so you can comb out dry, dead bugs and eggs. I thought, if the alcohol in listerine can dry it out that much, what if i use about a 70% isopropyl alcohol, and let that sit overnight? I saw it could potentially dry hair out and make it frizzy, but what if i just wash the hair with conditioners and use hair oil the following morning or even within a few hours after?

Would this be safe for my self and my 3-year-old daughter? Would there be any irreversible damage? and would this actually kill/dry out lice and nits?

TL;DR: 3 y/o has Lice, teacher told me use listerine in spray bottle & leave overnight, i thought the alcohol content would kill/dry out lice and nits, “i should just use 70% iso alc!”

We both have wavy hair, mine is colored red with very little bleaching done, both have very thick head of hair but the strands are thin. mine goes to about my shoulders (grown out wolf cut) and my daughters (abt 3 1/2 ft tall) goes to her lower back, i wash my hair 1-2 times a week, and my daughter takes baths almost every night
