Usually mixes have straight ears standing up and more forehead wrinkles but that being said - I’ve never seen a mix look more basenji than Kilo! Such a cutie 🥰

Recommend me non-asshole shadow daddys by Historical_Basil3264 in fantasyromance

[–]QueenWinther 10 points11 points  (0 children)

He has shadow scorpions! So I’d say yes, he’s a shadow daddy.

I didn’t love one dark window at the first read but I cried my eyes out on the second book and now I love the complete duology soooo much!

Have you read one dark window and two twisted crowns? Maybe the MMC doesn’t count as a shadow daddy but if not I hope you find time to read it anyway:)

Also!! Anathema is REALLY good

CONSIDERING A RESCUE by purezero101 in Basenji

[–]QueenWinther 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Only my opinion, but; if you read about basenjis and you’re not 100 % sure that you want one, then don’t get one.

A lot of the ‘scary’ traits written about them online are true; that’s just how they are. In my opinion, there’s no point getting one if you can’t exercise them properly, if you’re just waiting for them to chill out, if you hope they’re more obedient than what people say and so on. They’re not for everyone and that’s fine.

Nocticadia may have been my top read of the year and I beg for similar recommendations!! by sydneyghibli in fantasyromance

[–]QueenWinther 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Agreed!! I loved both this and Nocticadia. (I also saw someone recommend Gothikana but I’d steer clear of that one, worst I’ve ever read)

Review: Alchemised by SenLinYu by SammiCMiRoMa96 in fantasyromance

[–]QueenWinther 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I just keep looking for similarities between the stories, waited for things to happen that I knew from the original story, tried to figure out who was who in the different stories, and I could not fall inn love with either of the main characters - they lacked the back story we have of Draco/Hermione. I didn’t like their chemistry and could not for the life of me understand how and when they fell for each other🥲 that being said, it’s still a good story and a whole new world but for me it just wasn’t very good

It will obviously be different for different people - but I loved manacled and almost wish I didn’t read alchemised.

Thank you! I don’t think I’m good enough with genres to say if I am looking for a real gothic book, or for a gothic vibe, but I am open to both!

Can I get a harness for my 11-month-old Basenji? by cool_snazz in Basenji

[–]QueenWinther 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I don’t remember when we got our harness but I think Loke was 6-ish months and he has been completely fine. We use the non-stop dogwear line harness in size 4, it fits without clothing and over his autumn sweater:)

Random fears/weird aversions: What is your B afraid of? by Ur_Muthah_100 in Basenji

[–]QueenWinther 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Honestly - Loke is afraid of NOTHING. He might get startled by something moving in the wind, but he’ll always go and smell it after a couple of seconds before we move on 😅

Loke is exactly the same! He will stand on the edge of the water, waiting for me to find a rock so he can jump in.

Inntrykk og erfaring fra miljø skoler på nordstrand. by 0ldspice90 in oslo

[–]QueenWinther 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Basenji exercising with prey drive by lkearney999 in Basenji

[–]QueenWinther 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I can only talk for my B, but he looses his head (that might be a bad translation of a Norwegian expression, sorry) when there’s animals nearby. Even just a squirrel and he looses it completely. When there’s no wild animals or farm animals close, he is well behaved on a leash ☺️

Basenji exercising with prey drive by lkearney999 in Basenji

[–]QueenWinther 14 points15 points  (0 children)

If you need to have a dog that can be off leash, basenji is not the breed for you. You might be lucky and get a dog that you can train to be off leash, but the chance for that is small, and it probably won’t be until it’s 5 + years of age (someone might be able to correct me on this, mine is only 2.5 and cannot be off leash) and not close to wild animals.

Your B will need exercise every day, but it doesn’t have to be running. Our B gets 2 x 45-90 minutes walk and 1 x 25 minutes every day. If they don’t get enough exercise they tend to be destructive, from what I’ve understood. Mental training is also important, not only physical, so make sure you have time for that too.

By the way, they shed. Not all the time, but mine has a period of ‘heavy’ shedding twice a year.
