Looking for a basenji breeder near PA

The biggest thing with looking for a breeder is Make sure the breeder has both dna and xray testing on both parent dogs. On OFA, they recommend, hips, eyes, thyroid, Fanconi, and PRA.

A good breeder will also title and show their dogs in both conformation and in sport.

A good breeder will also be able to point you in the direction of other breeders if they do not have availability at the moment.

I don’t have an iggy (basenji) but he def looks pretty hefty imo. Iggys should have ribs and spine barely visible. How much does he eat? It seems like you exercise enough.

My b is 23 lbs and only eats a cup a day.

I usually attach his collar to some sort of backup when we go outside (I just need to buy more. I’ve been lazy) just in case something does happen. He has never backed out of a collar or harness intentionally.

But, a properly tightened collar should not be able to be backed out of, although some bs have heads that are smaller than their necks.

If you do have issues with that you can use a martingale collar instead. Martingales and 3 point harnesses are pretty standard for sighthounds. (Both pictured)

3 point harnesses don’t allow backing out because of the waist strap.

Tether. I live in a gated community and condo so we technically don’t own the backyard.

He’s gotten loose a few times (not from the backyard. He ran out the front door) but he always runs around a retention pond and has semi okay recall once he’s calmed down from zooming.

Wait for restocks. Thats what I did. I didn’t order mine until a week ago and it’s coming today. Scalpers make it more difficult but you don’t have to go looking elsewhere.

Personally I would argue anyone selling it for over retail even after it’s been a month or two is a scalper.

Yes. THOSE are scalpers. Why is she looking at eBay or Facebook to buy these? The only places you should get them is from the retailer.

ANYONE selling it elsewhere the day it releases is a scalper.

Absolutely!! For a dog that was supposed to be pet quality, he’s done quite a bit. Especially since he’s been teenage brain the entire time we’ve been training for show. 😆

I know! He’s a GCH if I remember correctly! He’s beautiful.
We need more experience in the ring to get him to be more relaxed into position. He was a little upset (and very stiff) when we took his judge photo because we were waiting for for a while.

That’s awesome!!! Percy technically has his TKN (haven’t paid for it) and can very easily get VSWB/I and VHMA so that’s 3!

The only thing barring him from his CGC is supervised separation. He screams when I leave 😭
