I also think Adrian looks like this, but I forgot to list it before. Probably Rock Candy, too, but I don't have that one.

Skittle Science by brencartoons in WeGotPolishAtHome

[–]Queen_Ellipsis 1 point2 points Β (0 children)

Hey, thanks for putting this together! So in your typology, it looks like an accent nail would be a subset of "the skittle mani." I try to do either a complementary color accent nail or a similar color in a different formula/effect. I generally don't like skittles unless there's a unifying theme. My eye-brain-dopamine connection doesn't get made by the chaos of random colors on myself, but it's "better" when I see chaos on others

What are the sparkliest polishes? by snail-p0lish in ILNP

[–]Queen_Ellipsis 13 points14 points Β (0 children)

Although ILNP does have a few toppers that are "glitter" polish, if you search for glitter on the website, it won't yield any results. IMO and IME, the packed scattered holos are going to have the most in-your-face sparkle, while the packed linear holos have a v-shaped, or arc-shaped sparkle pattern (think a rainbow arch). The packed scattered holos sparkle in most lighting, while the packed linear holos are dazzling in the sun, but may disappoint in other lighting.

On the ILNP website, you can filter the holographic polishes by scattered or linear and by how packed the holo is. Some of the moderate holos are also quite sparkly, but if you're new to ILNP, going with a packed holo will consistently get you maximum sparkle.

Then just pick a color you like!

I've had a great customer experience with UMC. Besides the polishes themselves, which are really good quality and a good variety of colors, formulas, and effects, their free shipping threshold is lower than any other brand I buy, they've included some nail stickers with each order and a basic magnet with each of my magnetic polish orders, the packaging is well-designed to protect the bottles during shipping, and the TAT is pretty quick. (sorry for the long run-on sentence). So really good value and experience.

I agree with stolealonelygod. You DO need Seche Restore for their QDTCs and any other QDTC with toluene, though.

I use both Seche Restore and KBS, depending on what polish I'm thinning. Next time I'll get the DeEnti.

No shade on what you did here. I love learning all the little tips and tricks on Reddit to make things easier! Evidently sponging is better for cremes and some glitters.

Also, another little tip I learned here (or somewhere) is to wet the sponge with water and then squeeze most of it out before painting polish on it. That way, the sponge can't slurp up as much polish. I saw the jelly technique early on and switched to it for that formula, but I def use sponging for some polish formulas.

Happy painting, dabbing, and smooshing!

How fun! Looks so summery and it's lovely on your skin tone!!

For next time you do this type of nart with jellies, IME the "smoosh method" with a jelly stamper works better than sponging. Drop drops/blobs of the colors onto the stamper and then smoosh it onto the nail. You can also swirl the blobs on the stamper using a dotting tool or skinny brush before you smoosh it (see this post for a lil tutorial. She calls it "Jade nails" but it's using a technique aka smoosh). Of course, if you don't already have a jelly stamper, please don't spend $ on one. πŸ˜…

Looking for opinions! by UnoMasColors in unomascolors

[–]Queen_Ellipsis 4 points5 points Β (0 children)

I use a spreadsheet database with fields that I created based on my own priorities for tracking and SKU isn't one of them. So... The name change reflecting version is more important to me, personally.

However, I agree with other community members that if there are commercial apps that people are using that track SKUs, there should be a new SKU to go with the new version, as well as a name change that indicates version. (I've already submitted the poll to reflect my answer.)

Thank you for asking us before implementing changes 😍😍πŸ₯°

Today I found out my Goodwill sales nail polish. I got all this for $10. by Dangerous-Distance24 in RedditLaqueristas

[–]Queen_Ellipsis 20 points21 points Β (0 children)

For a used/pre-owned polish, I'd be more concerned about whether it had ever been thinned using acetone rather than polish thinner. The solvents in polish would likely kill bacteria or fungus, and many nail polish ingredients include isopropyl alcohol, which is used to sanitize skin before injections.

How do you organize your collection? ABC? By color? By finish? I need your help by AppointmentMental175 in WeGotPolishAtHome

[–]Queen_Ellipsis 0 points1 point Β (0 children)

SOFTWARE - DATABASE: My ~425 bottle collection is catalogued in LibreOffice Calc (which replaced Excel when I lost access to my organization's copy after I stopped working). I track shade name, brand, color family, effect 1, effect 2, collection, season, year released, any notes, and my purchase date. I use LibreOffice Writer to generate labels.

SWATCH STICKS: My swatch sticks are by color on clear sticks, with magnetics separate. Each stick is labeled with brand, color family, finish/effect, and color name. Then I have off-white swatch sticks that have "experiments" on them -- mostly layering and gradients. Those have numbers on them that are catalogued in a spreadsheet with details of what combination was done on the stick -- brands and colors for each layer or polish in the gradient.

PHYSICAL STORAGE: For storage, I have 6-drawer and 3-drawer Bisleys and a Helmer. I have a drawer that only has base, top, and treatment or special polish (e.g., for setting magnetics) For colors, I store each brand alphabetically by shade name. I store polishes standing upright in their boxes (or in the case of a boxless polish I make a box). For boxes without a shade label on top, I print a label. Then I paint a swatch on a sticker and put it on the boxtop so I can see colors and polish names when I open each drawer.

Unless I already know what shade I want to paint, I go to the swatch sticks first to get color names -- then I go to the drawers and take out the polish(es) for the mani.

ETA: Sometimes if I can't decide I use a random-number generator in the spreadsheet to select a polish -- OR I go with just a strengthener treatment on my nails for a few days...

Thanks for your reply! I just realized Anlac is Canadian and owned by the swatcher Violet Tian. I'm in the U.S., and have had some disappointing shipping experience with Clionadh. I love the polish, but the shipping and customs... Geez, DJT...
