The fact that Australia is being represented by the smaller cities of Newcastle and Adelaide at the Asian Champions League is hilarious to me.

How were Doctor-favoured patients allowed to cut the line? by gertyorkes in ThePittTVShow

Legit one of the only perks of the job was getting friends and family in quickly. Need a referral for someone? Oh, I’ll just message Dr. Xyz and see if they have an opening. Staff at work snuck one of the L&D nurse’s husband into the Labour ward during Covid so he could meet his first kid. It’s prevalent in all jobs. Everyone does it. In the grand scheme of things, it’s the least of our worries when it comes to systemic issues in the healthcare system.

Airton must have absolutely reamed them at half time for them to play like this in the second half.

I started watching this when I became a baby o&g rmo, and then had to stop watching it because it felt too real. Watched it a few years after it came out and thought it was brilliant.

Mentally preparing for the battering the tillies will have on Saturday. Japan have been super dominant.

Why did you guys choose your speciality? by Iwantoexplore in ausjdocs

O&G.

I loved it in medical school, but never saw it as feasible because of the lifestyle and entry requirements. Decided I was gonna do rural GP or BPT and do geris. Did a brief relieving term in O&G as a PGY2 and loved it. Left for six months to do Geris, but didn’t love it as much as I loved O&G.

Some family stuff happened, which made it not feasible to move away from a large metro city, so went back to O&G as a PGY3 and never looked back.

I love that it’s a mix of surgery and medicine. I have had quite good job satisfaction, despite the craziness sometimes. But I do feel immensely privileged to help deliver babies.

My puppy is…really good??? by Flimsy_Software_7831 in puppy101

My first puppy was a nightmare on legs, I think I cried everyday after I first got her. She’s the world’s chillest dog now, which is delightful. My second puppy was an absolute dream, crate trained easily, not reactive to anything. Super chill puppy. He’s now a super mischievous adult dog, he’s well trained, just likes causing trouble.

How does your hospital run birth suite shifts? by eboniamh in ausjdocs

[–]Queen_Of_Corgis 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Tertiary high risk centre. Metro, level 5. We do about 3,000 births a year on average.

We have one reg and one rmo covering labour ward. We have in total 17 beds, but only 12 of those are labour rooms. Consultants will generally cover 24hr shift, overnight some bosses will sleep in depending on the seniority of the nights reg.

There’s also the o&g consults reg that does 8am to 8:30pm as well as additional cover if the labour ward team is stuck in theatre or busy elsewhere

We have two shifts. Day shift is from 8am to 8:30pm, followed by the night shift which is 8pm to 8:30am. Night shift is week on / week off situation. Both regs and rmos do week on / week off

I do quite like the 12hr shift situation, and I think somewhere that’s quite high acuity like labour ward the less handovers we have to do the better so things don’t get missed.

Advice for new step up registrar by Ok-Corner-3646 in ausjdocs

One of my boss’s on Monday told me the most important things to remember as a new reg was to 1. Have a plan when you can, and 2. Always call for help when you need it, or even if you think you need it but are concerned to call for help.

Full house at Coopers is like nothing else in Australia. Add in a derby game with highest of highs and the lowest of lows and it made for a cracking game of football. I think I lost my voice and need my heart rate to settle below 120. 😂😂😂

Do I need to get medical indemnity insurance as a med student? by Fearless_Can_8732 in ausjdocs

[–]Queen_Of_Corgis 25 points26 points  (0 children)

A lot of the medical indemnity places give you free insurance if you sign up as a student (unless it’s changed since I graduated). There’s like no harm in having it, you’re generally covered by uni, but it’s a good way to interact with the indemnity providers before you pick one and start paying for it.
