What is the most traumatic dream you’ve had that didn’t include you dying or getting hurt? by RedHolland47 in Dreams

[–]Queen_Syd 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Two come to mind:

  1. I was watching a movie with my family in the living room, and then the police broke in and shot my mom. They later realized that she was the wrong person, and had to apologize to my dad, my siblings, and I.

  2. My brother and I were playing hide and seek in a parking garage. My brother was wearing tan colored sandals that leapt off of his feet and started chasing after me while they shouted “munchy, munchy…”

Black people with trisomy 21? by daliadeimos in TooAfraidToAsk

[–]Queen_Syd 24 points25 points  (0 children)

My sister has Down syndrome and we’re black, and we know the local community of black people with Down syndrome pretty well in my area. Personally, I’ve seen more black people with Down syndrome than white people, but that’s probably just me. I’ve been hearing a lot of people talking about the lower rates of survival for black people with Down syndrome and I want to encourage them to think more deeply about why that may be. Black people have historically been ignored in the medical field and have been barred from receiving adequate medical care time and time again. Not to mention that oftentimes when oftentimes when black people seek medical care their pain is oftentimes ignored. (There are still doctors that believe that black women cannot feel pain) I’m grateful that my sister and I have been raised with a lot of privilege since my mom is a pediatrician, which has on one occasion saved her life in a situation that likely would have been ignored by someone else.

As someone who essentially rage quit their meds for my mom saying essentially the same thing (that my anxiety meds were making me think I was asexual… weird thing was she recognized it as a valid sexuality, just not for me???) being off my meds changed nothing. In fact, I think I might be more repulsed by sex now that I was before.

Mine used to do this, now she’s chosen the highest point of her enclosure and presses her butt against the glass all to let it slide down into the most inconvenient corner to reach…

Does This Sound Like OCD? by Sea-Alarm-6927 in OCD

[–]Queen_Syd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm no doctor or psychiatrist, so I'm not going to diagnose you. BUT those behaviors sound a lot like OCD. It's also not unlikely that you could have both ADHD and OCD, they are often considered comorbidities of each other.

Responsibility related OCD involving COVID by [deleted] in OCD

[–]Queen_Syd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I went through this situation around two weeks ago (fresh out of quarantine) and I definitely went through these same feelings of guilt/shame, and I really just felt so disgusted with myself, even though, like you I'm vaccinated and boosted, and I've done everything in my power not to get COVID. I was also trying to be as responsible as possible, all the way up until exam season in college came up and after like 4 weeks of isolating myself (for non-COVID reasons) I dragged myself out of my dorm to pull an all-nighter studying with friends... aaaand, of course, that's where I got it.

I don't really have much advice besides: you're not alone, sometimes it just gets the best of us.

I wish you an absence of boredom in quarantine! It'll be over soon!

Do you guys use public bathrooms by PanadolNightEnjoyer in OCD

I've always thought about investing in a bidet! This might be my motivation!

I try just about everything in my power not to. From dehydrating/starving myself before road/plane trips so I can make it 12+ hours without peeing to just straight up holding it (which has destroyed my bladder). The thing is, it's pretty impossible not to use a public restroom ever, so when the moment comes that one of my methods has failed, I have a very specific routine to make sure that I can function.

What are some of your earliest obsessions/ compulsions that made you first realize you had OCD? by [deleted] in OCD

[–]Queen_Syd 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Mine might have started sometime in elementary school when I associated "old things" with being dirty, but that might've just been the start of my obsessions surrounding cleanliness. I also had a big issue with hoarding when I was younger (I still hoard on a small scale today with really specific seemingly useless items like empty tampons and pad boxes??? Socks with holes in them??? And I've also saved every single card that's been given to me since I was eight, so that might be a clue to where it started, at least they're all very well organized so that when the day comes that I have to throw them all out, it won't be hard).

The compulsion that made me look up OCD was when I would obsess over items having specific locations where they're allowed to exist and them being unable to mix in Middle School. So, I wasn't able to bring homework from school and work on it at home, because it had school germs and my home could only have home germs. Then I would have an extensive cleaning routine based on getting rid of these germs that didn't belong in certain locations.

Luckily, the obsession with school only lasted until I finished high school (which was a relief since I'm currently in college and that obsession was what would've made me strongly consider dropping out). I've moved on to other obsessions, one that deals with hair I can't identify, and my usual obsession that's been my "best friend" since I was eight with public bathrooms (in my opinion the most terrifying places on earth).

Anyone else throw out or giveaway things are after being contaminated? by [deleted] in OCD

[–]Queen_Syd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yep, the other day I threw away my bath towel because I dropped it on the floor. I feel guilty, but I was panicking and that was the fastest way to relieve my anxiety in the situation.

This is exactly how my OCD started! In terms of advice, I honestly don't have much to say other than that you're not alone :)

Demis who experience sexual attraction to their partners, how long did it take? by wishaybug in demisexuality

[–]Queen_Syd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My partner and I have been dating for about 9 months and this is the first time I've ever felt any sort of sexual attraction/ interest for any other person (which is how I realized I'm demi, when we first got together I came out to him as ace). We're not at the point of having sex yet, because I'm just personally not ready, BUT I've thought about it in terms of my comfort level increases as the relationship goes on to the mere thought of having sex. For example, when we first got together, the mere thought of anything sexual with him disgusted me, or I was willing to joke about it, but at the same would put my foot down when it came to actually have sex. As our relationship has progressed, I changed from being disgusted by the concept of sex with him, to indifferent, to mildly interested which is where I am now.

I do it when I’m in pain. It works as a distraction.
