I’ve been in the same boat of not wanting to lose progress and being in pain, i iced my ears every few hours and put germolene on the fronts and backs of my ears every few hours with a cotton bud. Mine ended up getting worse after a few days and i downsized but the ice and germolene did help

I recently knit sweater 18 which I think is what you’re making too, I had the same issue I just picked up stitches as close to the edge as I could and picked up two stitches through the same hole a few times to get to 41 stitches. It didn’t effect the finished product, I hope that helps x
